The OHSE Division within P&S is seeking an OHS Officer.

The main purpose of this position is to ensure OHSE compliance is met across UCT for the following areas: Contractor and Vendor Management, Construction Projects, Fire Safety Prevention, Events Safety, Emergency Preparedness and Disaster Management. The focus of this position is to ensure compliance with Occupational Health and Safety Act 85 of 1993 and its regulations.  The University of Cape Town policies aligned to ISO 45001 and 14001 systems requirements. The successful incumbent will report to the OHS Manager within the OHSE Division and is required to travel across various campuses and sites of the University of Cape Town in the Western Cape, conducting regular inspections, reviews, and audits. Assist in the implementation of programs to support legal requirements & programs which are aligned to the ISO 45001 programs.

Requirements for the Job:

• NQF – 6 Occupational Health & Safety
• Must have at least 5 years management experience in Occupational Health & Safety that comprises experience in Construction site management safety, emergency response, fire safety compliance and events safety.
• CHS Officer registration as per South African Council for the Project and Construction Management Professions (SACPCMP); Advantageous if registered as CHS Manager (SACPCMP) preferable.

Must have Knowledge of the following:  General Occupational Health and safety, Fire Safety, Construction Safety, Knowledge, and implementation of the OH Act 85 of 1993 and ISO 45001

Advantage:  It is advantageous if the candidate has experience in disaster management. Candidate must be able to work in a dynamic and high-pressure environment and handle multiple tasks with appropriate prioritisation.

• Events Safety, Emergency & Disaster Risk Management.

The potential candidate must pass a pre-employment medical which is aligned to the job functions before being nominated for employment.

The annual cost of employment, including benefits is between R580 137 and R682 513.
