BOARDING HOUSEMASTER

(to commence duty January 2025)

The successful candidate will:

  • be responsible for managing the house pastoral team which will include:
    • ensuring that there is appropriate adult supervision in the house at all times;
    • leading and arranging the members of the house pastoral team to oversee tutoring, behavioral and other pastoral matters.
  • be responsible for the day-to-day administration and running of the Boarding House, including:
    • having oversight of the academic and pastoral care of the boarders;
    • being the contact person for communication with teachers and parents;
    • management of, and sharing in, the duty roster;
    • overseeing the maintenance and facilities of the house;
    • managing the Boarding House budget effectively;
    • supporting boarding functions;
    • overseeing the tidiness, cleanliness, health & safety and overall condition of the house.

This position will include the benefit of accommodation and meals.

Tomorrow’s People College is a well-established private school in Faerie Glen, Pretoria. The college has a position available and to appoint a Housekeeper, including Kitchen management to fill the full-time position.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the smooth operation of the kitchen
  • Supervise kitchen staff, including cooks and helpers, ensuring they follow food safety and sanitation standards.
  • Maintaining kitchen cleanliness and sanitation
  • Ensuring food quality and safety
  • Inventory Management: Maintain inventory levels, order supplies, and manage food costs. (Inventory of kitchen and school supplies)
  • Hands-on experience with planning menus and ordering ingredients
  • Managing the Tuckshop of the school
  • Perform housekeeping work in designated areas of responsibility
  • Ensuring a high standard of cleanliness is achieved throughout the school, including that the immediate outside areas are neat and tidy daily.
  • Report any maintenance problems to the maintenance management.
  • Maintain a high level of safety, cleanliness, and efficiency
  • Maintain and care for the school buildings and surrounding areas, including gardens
  • Maintain sanitation and safety standards in the kitchen and school surrounding area
  • Show high levels of integrity, honesty, and friendliness
  • Ability to fulfill occasional overtime responsibilities when hosting functions, fundraising, etc.
  • Knowledge and Assisting with Health and Safety Requirements

The successful candidate must have:

  • Grade 12 and post-graduate qualifications in the hospitality industry will be advantageous.
  • Minimum 2 Years’ experience in progressive/kitchen management is compulsory
  • Experience with stock control, ordering and receiving
  • Appropriate experience with references.
  • Fully Bilingual.
  • Working hours from 06h45 – 15h45
  • No criminal record.
  • Commencing date: As soon as possible
  • Excellent communication and administrative skills.
  • Experience with modern technology and fully computer literate.

St Andrew’s College seeks a passionate and dedicated Housemaster to oversee the day-to-day management and operations of a boarding house. This role is essential to ensuring the well-being, safety, and holistic development of our pupils, while fostering a structured and supportive living environment aligned with the school’s values.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the daily operations, health, and safety of the boarding house.
  • Provide pastoral care, ensuring the emotional, academic, and physical needs of students are met.
  • Uphold disciplinary standards and maintain strong relationships with students, staff, and parents.
  • Organise house events and activities, fostering house spirit and community involvement.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Minimum: NQF 7 Educational Qualification (PGCE/BEd).
  • Preferred: Business/People Qualification.
  • At least 5 years of teaching experience; 3 years in a boys’ school environment; 2 years as Deputy Housemaster.
  • Legal Requirements: Valid driver’s license, SACE Registration, Sexual Offences Act Clearance, and Child Protection Registry Clearance.

Competencies:

  • Strong leadership, organisational, and communication skills.
  • A genuine concern for students’ well-being and ability to handle pastoral responsibilities.
  • Ability to manage staff, foster positive relationships, and promote a safe environment.

Special Requirements:

  • The role requires flexibility, including extended hours, and the ability to undertake reasonable duties as required by management.
