Mintek has an exciting career opportunity for an Artisan: Comminution position within the Mineral Processing Division (MPD). The candidate is required to perform tasks related to executing plant building and equipment maintenance activities within MPD. This includes being responsible for building and maintenance of pilot plants, laboratory equipment and MPD assets in accordance with specified designs, engineering drawings, plant layouts, flow sheets, and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
Job description

Key Performance Indicators:
Plan and execute planned maintenance schedule on various MPD plants and equipment, making sure to effectively interpret conditions of plants and equipment and determine causes thereof as well as check and ensure quality of maintenance work in MPD equipment.
Maintain a sign-in and sign-out for MPD equipment.
Assist with Works Orders and do follow ups.
Compile reports on the status of inspected equipment and submit the report with recommendations to the Head of the group.
Ensure registration of assets in equipment register and monitor assets movements.
Help to record and track the movement of assets.
Look after the MPD assets (Asset numbers & Bar codes) and help identify broken or non-repairable.
Identify resources required to execute required maintenance.
Plan execution of recommended maintenance activities.
Execute planned maintenance as per plan.
Report back to ead on completed work.
Preventative Maintenance
Execute planned maintenance inspections on various mechanical plants and equipment, making use of mechanical theories to effectively interpret conditions of plant and equipment and determine causes thereof.
Compile reports on the status of inspected equipment.
Submit report with recommendations to Supervisor.
Identify resources required to execute required maintenance.
Plan execution of recommended maintenance activities.
Execute planned maintenance as per plan.
Report back to Supervisor on completed work.
Reactive Maintenance
Respond to breakdown of equipment and plant.
Assess the extent and cause of failure.
Identify the best remedial action to be taken, taking into account the impact of downtime and cost of repair.
Inform Supervisor of the failure/breakdown and request required spares.
Execute repairs to failed equipment or plant and commission. Ensure high quality of workmanship to prevent recurrence of failure.
Projects
Interpret drawings (PFD’s, P&ID’s and Structural) to assemble plant and equipment as requested by Cis.
Design manufacture and install water, air, gas and steam reticulation according to relevant quality and safety standards.
Meeting requirements of CI for pilot plant building.
Commission pilot plants.
Meeting deadlines for projects and reliability.
Ensure when decommissioning of a pilot plant is complete, all equipment is returned to its original state.
Additional
Perform risk assessment before carrying out work.
Supervise subordinates and ensure they work safely.
Ensure high quality of work in all maintenance activities.
Minimise wastage of materials and spares when maintaining equipment or making new fixtures or structures.
Perform standby duties, responding to calls after hours regarding failed equipment, plant and services
Mentor trainees.
Ensure all SHEQ requirements are adhered to and met.

Minimum requirements
Trade Certifcate
Atleast 5 years’ experience in the operation and maintenance of relevant minerals processing related unit operations such as flotation, milling, crushing, physical separation and sample preparation.
At least 5 years on the job training.

Mintek is offering an exciting career opportunity for a Principal Scientist in Mineral Science within the Mineralogy Division. The candidate is required to execute the development of software tools and data models to improve interpretation of mineralogical data (numerical, images) for purposes of research or commercial service. This role requires adherence to predetermined time and cost schedules, as well as compliance with Mineralogy’s quality standards. Additionally, the candidate will actively seek new income and opportunities.

Key Performance Indicators:

Assist Head/Divisional manager to maintain and expand on project work from the mining/metallurgical industry and related research agencies, in line with Division’s current businessplans, by providing competence and professional expertise, and interacting with clients,collaborators and potential partners.
Ascertain the needs of clients and the industry and propose appropriate project work, both research and commercial-oriented. Identify opportunities for innovation and commercialisation.
Lead and execute projects in which interactions with stakeholders (internal and external) are required at an advanced level of technical expertise. This will involve algorithm/software development to extract appropriate information, and modelling, simulation and interpretation of mineral behaviour in processing and other environments using, primarily, mineralogical inputs.
Train, and technically mentor the staff in the group, so as to improve technical quality and turnaround times, and promote innovative outcomes, thus enhancing the value proposition of the group to clients and collaborators.
Execute projects so as to meet the time scheduling agreed to with client/stakeholder, contain costs for the Division and deliver valid conclusions with technical efficiency and professionalism.
Comply with the internal administration requirements of Mintek and the Mineralogy Division with respect to labour and machine time capture, business governance, professional reporting, project planning and management.
Develop protocols/workflows for optimal operation and performance of specialised imaging equipment.
Ensure that QES procedures are followed, and project work is executed to produce valid conclusions and with maximum overall efficiency – technically and financially.
Ensure that the documentation of work and procedures is appropriately captured and produce advanced professional-level reports, publications, and conference contributions.
Minimum requirements
PhD in a relevant scientific field relating to the Discipline (science or engineering).
At least 6 years experience in the field of data analysis and modelling directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
Fundamental knowledge of operating in a laboratory environment. Any experience with image analysis and research equipment is advantageous.
Advanced knowledge of research principles and methodologies.
Knowledge of advanced data analysis, methods, and techniques.
