Duties and Responsibilities
Production Control – Ensure Operator Logs are accurately completed by operators and mobile equipment operators. Ensure that contractor supervisor compiles end of shift report, accurately and comprehensively completed, including: Target / Actual / Variance (including down time and outstanding work orders) as well as proper action planning during the shift
Ensure production data is being used for Visual Management in all areas in the plant.
Production Review – Facilitate start of shift production INVOCOM and provide input where necessary. Conduct Short Interval Control with operators throughout the shift
Process Optimisation – Action recommendations from Quarry Foreperson. Conduct preliminary diagnostic during process upsets. Provide input into efficiency and productivity improvement initiatives
Liaise with engineering on resolution of mechanical or electrical issues, by raising scheduled and urgent work orders
Equipment condition monitoring – Ensure pre-start checks are done properly done and action plans actioned. Ensure ongoing and systematic 1st line equipment surveillance and condition monitoring
Material movement and processing – Issue work instructions aligned to the shift plan to all teams
Stock management – Conduct end of shift assessment of material. Assist with variance investigations and stock adjustments as required
Quality Management – Ensure adherence to grade and blast plans. Investigate and resolve quality deviation.
Escalate quality deviations to foreperson
Governance – Comply with departmental Joint Audit Protocols. Comply with PPC Operating Best Practices
Risk Management – Comply with safety, health and environmental procedures. Assist with investigations of incident & accidents and implement required corrective action. Comply with IMS system requirements.

Duties and Responsibilities
The Batcher must batch quality concrete as per the required mix design, do not deviate from the required mix design specifications and only release correctly batched concrete from the plant.
Keep record of the batched concrete in the sequence in which it occurs to ensure that proper records are kept for reference purposes.
Assist in Prestart check on the plant to always ensure plant availability.
Batching as per the required delivery schedule and correct product mix.
Does not deviate from the required mix design and or products.
A sufficient raw material supply to meet the daily production requirements.
Slump is checked to meet the required specifications before delivery.
Confirm Batching schedule against Batchman.
Maximize truck Utilization according to company set strategy.
Reduce batch variances to zero.
Liaise with the customers and ensure proper customer service delivery as well as maximum truck utilization.
The Batcher must complete the plant operators batching sheet every time a truck is loaded.
The Batcher will record and report immediately to the Supervisor, any defects, Incidents on the plant, people or equipment which are found during the pre-start check or which occur during the course of production.
The Batcher must batch all concrete and ensure that:
The concrete meets all quality specification before leaving the plant.
Notify his Quality Controller or Supervisor of any Batch deviations and or non-conforming concrete before dispatching.
Make sure that all manually added admixtures or additives are added as per the mix design.
Must not exceed the allowable slump check water (5L/ m3). Note down the added water on Batch slip and sign.
Check the Batch slip and batch variance % does not exceed allowable (3% Agg, 2% Admixture, 1% cem/ash)
Make sure that the latest moisture is, always used.
The batch must be visually checked for slump in the truck after the driver has pre-mixed.
In order that the pre-mixing process in the truck-mixer shall be given sufficient time to achieve thorough mixing,
the next truck-mixer B shall be batched and loaded before the Batcher makes his check of the suitability of the slump of the concrete in truck-mixer A. This process is referred to as “LEAP FROGGING”
All returned concrete from any site and or defective concrete that needs to be dumped can only be authorised by the Area Manager, a correct dump form needs to be filled in prior to the load being dumped. This needs to be forwarded to the OM once completed.
The Batcher is to make sure that the lockout procedure is followed before cleaning or maintenance is carried out in the required lockout area’s (example, conveyor, screws, compressor)
Report any problems/Incidents immediately to the Plant Supervisor and ask for guidance. If the Supervisor is unavailable, he reports these issues directly to the Area Manager and or Office Manager.
