SIB Project Advisor

Job Description:

As Project Advisoryou will provide services as required and your responsibilities will include but not limited to:

Assist and support line management in project selection and scoping (front-end loading) to align with departmental and organisational strategies
Review and drive optimisation opportunities regarding project scope and cost even before a project is registered
Provide training (both formal and informal) to operational project managers with regards to project management, the ADM process, Anglo American Project Requirements, as well as site-specific requirements, standards, and procedures
Provide coaching and mentoring on an individual basis to new project managers as well as line management to explain their roles and responsibilities in the various aspects of project execution
Develop new and optimise existing systems and procedures to align with company DAF and project work procedures
Coordinate and facilitate kick-off sessions (gate 0 and gate 3) of new projects to formulate execution and procurement strategies
Ensure best fit for purpose solution with regards to technical compliance (technical reviews), business case and critical risks
Quality assurance concerning documentation, reporting and compliance with standards
Report and facilitate feedback sessions between project managers and owners’ team
Ensure adherence to governance regarding procurement, tender evaluation, adjudication, and order placement
Demonstrate optimised project cost and project scope on operational projects during the registration phase
Strong stakeholder management between cross-functional departments – Portfolio, Project office, SIB engineering and relevant operational sections to ensure project delivery
Ensure adherence to standards and procedures (SHE) during project execution through relevant sections and departments
Drive and assist in project closure and capitalisation of assets upon project completion
Monitor and track project progress to ensure project delivery and adherence to scope, cost, timeline, and quality.
Monthly updates and feedback sessions related to relevant operational projects

This role is in the SIB & Construction Management (CON) at a Band 6 level reporting to the Section Manager Projects.

Qualifications:

Grade 12
National Diploma / Degree in Project Management or any of the technical fields (Mechanical, Civil or Electrical)
SA Drivers Licence

Experience

Advanced knowledge of Project Management
Advanced knowledge of mining (preferably open-pit), processing or engineering industry
Advanced knowledge of key value drivers across the mining value chain and the interdependence therein
Advanced Computer literacy (MS Office, Projects, Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, MS Projects)
Knowledge of ISO 21500 project management guidelines and a high-level framework for managing projects

Manager Technical Services Mining

Job Description:

Job responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

Ensure consolidation, alignment, and integration of discipline inputs into site 5-year plan and provide key technical input on production strategy, resource optimisation, maintenance plans, shutdown plans, risk management plans, mine design and equipment performance.
Effectively integrates and aligns Technical Services objectives with corporate, operational and Project objectives.
Monitors that agreed and approved mine plans and schedules are executed to achieve a high compliance delivery to plan.

Act as the technical advisor to the Operational Managers and ensure sufficient technical support for operational Mining teams

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in a relevant technical discipline (preferably Mining Engineering).

Experience, Knowledge and Skills

5+ years’ experience managing technical services functions such as Mineral Resource/Geology/Survey/Geotechnical/Mine Planning/Drill & Blast.
10 + years’ experience in underground hard rock mining engineering site
Technical and management experience that demonstrates successful application of underground mining engineering fundamentals, Safety, Technical Leadership and Operational mining systems.
Computer literacy to navigate through mine scheduling and spatial/GIS software.
Knowledge and understanding of Mining laws, regulations, codes of practice and guidelines essential.
Technical Support and practical experience in modern, mechanised Underground mines in both project development and construction as well as steady state operation.
Technical experience in med-large scale massive mining methods such as Caving or Open Stoping preferred.
Ability to coach, mentor and lead teams to establish a high-performance work culture, supporting a learning and skills development environment.
Knowledge and application of Project Management concepts, including Cost Control, Project Risk Management and Document & Data Management.
Adequate experience to support a best practice underground mechanised mine and know how to co-ordinate and set up systems and resources to support safe, effective and efficient mining.
Understand underground mobile equipment performance and how to operationally support best practice reliability centred maintenance teams.
Ability to constructively challenge mine contractor performance and introduce modern practices and operating methodologies/standards

Job Description:

Key tasks of the role are:

Geotechnical data collection and reporting on groundwater, pit wall stability, slope analysis.
Hazard identification and risk rating surveys. and

Assessment of rock mass characteristics and conditions.
Observation of adherence to support standards and quality.
Slope stability monitoring in open pit operations
Benchmarking the state of rock engineering practice about established best practices (technology).
Observation of rock mass conditions.
Reporting on observations to the line and technical discipline head.
Assist with the training of mine personnel in Strata Control principles with an emphasis on the identification of hazardous geological features.
Input observations into the appropriate database.

This role is at a band 6 level reporting to the Chief Rock Engineer.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in mining engineering, Geology, Rock Mechanics or other relevant discipline.
Chamber of Mines Rock Mechanics Certificate (for Open Pit) (required)
Chamber of Mines Rock Mechanics Certificate for Metalliferous Mines/Coal/Massive will only be considered if experienced with over 2 years at an open pit / open cast mine.

Lead the development of TMM and Infrastructure engineering strategy in support of the underground project and mine.

Provide mining and project execution input into site-specific 5-year plan, lead development and ongoing management of the UG Mining BP and 1-year budget.

Optimise mine operating and management standards and processes to ensure safe, efficient, and productive mining operations and the delivery of benchmark performance.
Effectively lead and manage UG Mining operations to deliver the budget including all relevant project, production, safety, environmental, cost and quality targets
Manage process and costs to ensure the Mining teams set and deliver the annual budget and production targets safely, efficiently and cost effectively
Develop cost awareness within Mining discipline and focus on reducing all process waste

Proactively directs the analysis of designs, constructability reviews, schedule conflicts and the prioritisation of risks, opportunities and recommendations to successfully deliver the various packages within budget and schedule.

Qualifications:

An undergraduate qualification (Bachelors / Honours Bachelor’s degree or equivalent) in a relevant mining engineering discipline. Statutory holder qualifications as required.
Post graduate Mining qualification will be advantageous
Qualification or certification in General Management and or Project Management will be advantageous

Experience, Knowledge and Skills

Minimum of 15 years knowledge and experience
Mining Operations + Technical experience of large scale, UG mechanised mines
Experience with direct line management of a high-performance underground mining contractor for development, production, services and general mine construction activities.
Large team leadership (5-10 direct reports with large complex teams)
Managing and leading integrated owner and major mining (and construction) contractor teams in a mining project construction phase, and production ramp up
Technical areas including geology, geotechnical engineering, ventilation, hydrology, mining (pre-production and production), maintenance and engineering.
Construction / engineering project management of medium to large scale underground mining projects
Project & Mine Management experience of large scale mechanised UG Project &/or Mines.
Managing partnership best practice performance with Tier 1 Mining Contractors
Operates with a high level of autonomy
Displays tolerance and resilience and is not easily discouraged or deterred from achieving required outcomes
