Job Purpose
The Department of Environmental Affairs and Development Planning, Western Cape Government has an opportunity for a suitably qualified and competent individual to support the Director: Development Management in contributing to ensuring sustainable development through the provision of an integrated environmental management regulatory, advisory and support service and to ensure the processing of environmental authorisation applications in the District, Region and/or Sub-region. This post is based in George.
Minimum Requirements
An appropriate 4-year B-Degree/ Honours (equivalent or higher qualification) in natural or physical sciences, environmental management/sciences or engineering field or an equivalent qualification; A minimum of 6 years relevant environmental management experience; A valid (Code B or higher) driving license.
Recommendation
Registered as a Candidate Environmental Assessment Practitioner (EAP) or Registered as an EAP with the Environmental Assessment Practitioners Association of South Africa (EAPASA); Working Knowledge and experience of the following: The review of EIA applications; Integrated Environmental Management, including applicable legislation and policies; Post-decision requirements, for example, amendment applications, Environmental Audit reports and ECO reports.
Key Performance Areas
Maintain quality and productivity with regard to evaluation of applications in terms of the relevant environmental legislation; Implementation of the compliance monitoring and auditing strategy for environmental authorisations; Maintain quality and productivity with regard to provision of comment on assigned non-applications.
Competencies
Knowledge and understanding in the following: Integrated Environmental Management; EIA process applicable in the Western Cape; Skills needed: Written and verbal communication; Report writing; Problem Solving; Ability to meet strict deadlines; Ability to perform under pressure; Ability to work well within a team.
Remuneration
Grade A – R 580 551 per annum (OSD as prescribed).

The Mobility Department, Western Cape Government has an opportunity for a suitably qualified and competent individual to develop provincial strategies and disseminate road safety educational information through mass media, marketing and communication. The successful incumbent must be able to work under pressure, willingness to work irregular hours and meet tight deadlines.
Minimum Requirements
An appropriate 3-year National Diploma/B-Degree (equivalent or higher qualification); A minimum of 3-years relevant experience in a Road Safety Management or related working environment; A valid driving licence (Code B or higher).
