Basic Salary Range: R 456 325.38 per annum, plus benefits

Requirements: Bachelor’s degree with diploma in education or Teachers Diploma with relevant specialisation in Art Education • At least five years’ experience in education or public programmes • Knowledge of Museum education and public programmes • Understanding of CAPS • Computer literacy in MS Office Suite • Proof required of valid driver’s license.

Key Responsibilities include: Manage Museum educators •  Report on education programmes • Liaise with WCED and other relevant partners regarding the curriculum and programmes • Initiate, developing, presenting and promoting collections-based education programmes and resources •  Overseeing education programmes, conduct guided tours, museum education activities, taking responsibility for management of a site and its activities.

Curator Terrestrial Vertebrates

Basic Salary Range: R 525 058.16 per annum, plus benefits

Requirements: Master’s Degree in Biodiversity / Biodiversity-related field • Proven relevant experience working in a museum preferably as a curator with a demonstrated track record of competence and success • Research experience in a biodiversity-related field including integrated taxonomy as well as proven academic research and writing ability • Computer literacy in MS Office • Valid driver’s license. 

Key Responsibilities include: Assist in the identification of conservation requirements timeously and ensuring that these are addressed • Conducting fieldwork to ensure the strategic acquisition of specimens • Assessing specimens for inclusion in the mammalogy, ornithology and herpetology collections • Preparing fundraising proposals and ensuring the stewardship of Natural History unit grant agreements • Contributing to the development and implementation of Iziko’s over-arching exhibition strategy to ensure optimal educational heritage and societal benefits • Developing exhibition concepts, proposals and budgets in collaboration with other curators and exhibition designers • Contributing to site development strategy in consultation with relevant internal and external stakeholders • Contributing proactively to education and public programmes as required.

Curator Art New Media & Photography

Basic Salary Range: R 525 058.16 per annum, plus benefits

Requirements: Master’s Degree in Art History, Art Theory, Art Practice, or equivalent • Experience, working in an Art Museum or Gallery, or conducting university-level research/teaching • Relevant Museological knowledge to take full responsibility for curatorial functions • Proven record of research excellence and publication of a high international standard • Computer literacy in MS Word, Excel, Outlook.

Key Responsibilities include: Deliver on curatorial functions in relation to the collections of new media and photography, including regularly identifying works for acquisition and conservation • Conducting research to ensure strategic knowledge generation outputs are met • Communicate specialist research findings to the public through publications, exhibitions, popular articles, website and public programmes such as guided tours and panel discussions • Preparing fundraising proposals and ensuring the stewardship of the relevant grant agreements • Developing exhibition concepts, proposals and budgets in collaboration with other curators, exhibition designers and education team • Contributing to site development strategy in consultation with relevant internal and external stakeholders • Negotiate, handle and manage artworks for temporary and touring exhibitions, to and from other institutions, nationally and abroad, and acting as courier when required • Participate in strategic planning, budgeting, fundraising and other related work in the gallery • Submit reports on outputs and activities, as requested • Flexibility to assist in other curatorial departments when required • Mentor colleagues, interns, trainees and volunteers • Advising on collections specific conservation requirements and ensuring that these are addressed in collaboration with the relevant Collections Manager/s • Contributing proactively to education and public programmes as required • Keep abreast of developments in research, theory, museology and related production.

Curator Art for Global Africa

CURATOR ART FOR GLOBAL AFRICA – INDEFINITE APPOINTMENT

Requirements: Master’s Degree in Art History, Art Theory, Art Practice, or equivalent – with specialisation in historical forms of artistic production from South Africa, the African continent and the African diaspora • Experience, working in an Art Museum or Gallery, or conducting university-level research/teaching • Proven track record of curation, publication, and postgraduate teaching/study/research in South African art, art from the African continent, or art of the African diaspora • Proven engagement with museum and scholarly practices in various schools of thoughts observed within the art and humanities sector • Computer literacy in MS Office 365 • Valid driver’s license.

Key Responsibilities include: Implementing the over-arching exhibition strategy of Iziko Museums through content development and project management of internal and external, permanent and temporary, exhibitions to ensure optimal educational heritage and societal benefits • Reinterpreting the permanent Historical African Art Collection (include various artworks across multiple mediums) and building the collection in line with the institutional collection development strategy • Conducting research to ensure strategic knowledge generation outputs are met • Communicate specialist research findings to the public through publications, exhibitions, popular articles, website and public programmes such as guided tours and panel discussions • Preparing fundraising proposals and ensuring the stewardship of the relevant grant agreements • Developing exhibition concepts, proposals and budgets in collaboration with other curators, exhibition designers and education team • Contributing to site development strategy in consultation with relevant internal and external stakeholders • Advising on collections specific conservation requirements and ensuring that these are addressed in collaboration with the relevant Collections Manager/s • Contributing proactively to education and public programmes as required.

Exhibition Designer (3D)

EXIHIBITION DESIGNER (3D) – INDEFINITE APPOINTMENT

Basic Salary Range: R 409 919.02 per annum, plus benefits

Requirements: Bachelor’s degree relevant to Exhibition Design, Graphic Design, Industrial Design, Interior Design, Fine Arts or Architecture , or related field • Proven experience in high-quality design and production (exhibition design or potential to develop as an exhibition designer will be an advantage) • Experience with 3D modelling and rendering software (such as SketchUp, AutoCAD, Rhino, or similar tools) and Adobe InDesign and Illustrator • Computer literacy in MS Office 365 • Valid driver’s licence.

Key Responsibilities include: Produce imaginative, creative and original exhibitions designs • Collaborate with project stakeholders • Effectively communicate through using 3D modelling and other software □ Design exhibition layouts and infographics • Test designs and perform proofing and
quality control • Finalise technical files for production and facilitate related procurement • Collaborate with colleagues to install exhibitions □ Oversee selected fabrication and installation processes, and manage related contractors • Perform quality control aligned to universal accessibility standards • Ensure that designs reflect diverse cultural perspectives and promote inclusivity and equity.
