Job Purpose
The incumbent of the role will proactively manage the movement of crew in the planning and operational within strict compliance to the SACAA, other industrial agreements and SAA regulations in collaboration with Flight Operations, Inflight services, Crew Movement and Operations Control Centre. The role supports optimization of the strategic crew plan and crew training whilst providing on-time, well balanced crew schedules, efficient and proactive recovery of the schedule during irregular operations.
The incumbent of this role also supports by supervising and liaising with the crew on a shift basis to ensure the control and maintenance of the Airline schedule. The role is to resolve irregularities in a prompt and effective manner to maintain continued efficiency and smooth movements and service delivery within the Department and furthermore, maintain compliance with APP; APIS; MCL and General Declaration.
Principal Accountabilities
Demonstrates an understanding of the GOCC strategy and plan relevant to own work outputs
Implements department strategy within own area of responsibility
Contributes to the budget management and containment of costs
Applies cost saving initiatives continuously
Equitable distribution of the monthly and quarterly workload in order to contain EFP payment according to budget
Record and compile information for monthly bid packages and publish according to timeline
Planning of productive crew rosters and the equitable distribution of the monthly and quarterly workload
Maintain information relating to crew qualifications, special requests and crew leave
Well-balanced legal and equitable distribution of flights within the EFP baseline
Effectively plan flying instructors workload, route training and check flights
Publication of individual rosters with all flying duties, training duties and duty free days and electronical distribution of flying roster
Scenario planning in order to determine status of crew qualifications, roster flexibility and optimized solutions
Compiling of roster and flying hour statistics
Assist with the development of new scheduling systems and procedures
Generate and optimise all Flight Deck crew pairings
Exercise ongoing planning to quantify costs of solutions
Liaison with other scheduling departments within SAA regarding optimum pairing solutions
Assist with crew hotel bookings and transport arrangements
Assist in the regeneration of pairings in the planning and operational window in the event of major disruptions
Ensure compliance with flight schedule
Calculating the necessary recurrent training requirements, SREC’s and PREC’s
Planning efficient and accurate conversion training courses, within the limitations, stipulated in applicable contractual agreements
Plan and allocate the above workload to the relevant instructors in conjunction with the program planners, Fleet Training Captains and Safety and Service Training managers
Publish training plans to program planners, heads of training and Safety and Service Training managers
Apply the check system to ensure total quality at all times
Receive pairings and prepare documentation for monthly hotel room requirements and transport for cockpit crew – domestic
Release hotel and transport requirements monthly to suppliers
Make additional bookings for crew on training and for leisure/business for crew/staff/management on request
Reconcile and follow up any additional bookings made by crew movement, Durban, Cape Town Offices and fleet maintainers for cockpit crew and cabin crew
Advise hotels and transport suppliers of any cancellations on request
Reconcile all transport requirements manually for cockpit and cabin crew
Oversees the correct application of processes and systems in area of responsibility
Create synergy with all relevant departments impacting on crew operations including but not limited to labour, SACAA and foreign regulatory authorities
Develop and implement operational strategies to guide processes and procedures within Crew Movement
Check the flight validation, unpaired flights and data load reports and rectify any abnormalities
Contain crew costs emanating from irregular operations and optimise asset utilisation
Manage operational changes adequately minimizing impact on Corporate Schedule integrity
Ensure compliance to MCL, APP and APIS
Respond to all operational draft from OCC and build new/ amended pairings as required
Check the flight validation, unpaired flights and data load reports and rectify any abnormalities
Manage own personal development and actively participate in performance management processes
Transferring all above planning into PegaSys (CTR)
Implement own operational schedule to maximise productivity and ensure operational requirements are met
Qualifications & Experience
Grade 12 (Matric) at NQF level 4
A 3-year Diploma in a relevant field at NQF level 6 and/or 4 years’ experience derived from Crew Movement environment
Knowledge and Skills
Application and understanding of PegaSys – CTS, MCS, Rostering and pairing systems
Knowledge of regulating and EFP agreement
Application and understanding of Aircraft working positions, complements and scenarios
Application and understanding of airline operations control, especially delay management
All collective agreements and legislation impacting on crew operations
Flight and Duty rules
Demonstrate a basic understanding of quality principles used in the workplace
Demonstrate a good awareness of customer service
Proficiency in MS Office: MS Word, MS Excel, MS Power Point and MS Outlook

Qualifications & Experience
Matric Certificate / Grade 12 results / N3 or relevant tertiary qualifications (SAQA accredited)
Compulsory subjects: Mathematics or Statistics 101 and English (D symbol on higher grade or C symbol on standard grade) coupled with one of the following: Physical Science or Computer Science (D symbol on higher grade or C symbol on standard grade)
Valid South African Airline Transport Pilot’s License, or a Commercial Pilot License having completed all the ground subjects for the ATPL (previously known as a Frozen ATPL). A valid ATPL License must be obtained within 4 years from date of employment with SAA with a multi engine instrument rating
Valid Class 1 medical
A minimum of 1,500 flying hours which includes 200 hours on multi-engine aircraft
Be a South African citizen with a valid Passport
