Job description

KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS:

·         Conduct research into machine learning and computational modelling applications in the mining industry;

·         Ensure that projects are executed on time and within budget;

·         Play a leading role in research projects and the development of products from that research;

·         Act as a Principal Investigator on research projects.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • The following skills are required for this role:
    • Machine learning (supervised and unsupervised machine learning)
    • Computer Science or Applied Mathematics M.Sc, or Engineering with Computer Science background M.Sc (must have demonstrated the ability to tackle programming challenges in machine learning)
    • Academic writing, ability to present (evidenced by publication record)
    • English-speaking
    • Python programming language experience
  • Suitable candidates must possess at least an M.Sc and be willing to study further in a field aligned with Mintek’s research. A PhD in a machine learning or computational modelling field is preferred.

  • C , C# or VB.NET experience a bonus

Job description

Assembly Fitter, Turning and Milling:

• Manufacture, modify and erect pilot plants/laboratory apparatus / client products or parts thereof as per detailed engineering drawings.

• Manufacture, modify, repair and assembly mechanical equipment and components on machinery as requested.

• Provide fitting and machining skills support during commissioning of test facilities or client products in accordance with project or task.

• Test individual components or plant as per prescribed procedures to ensure that the overall plant function is achieved.

• Execute quality control plant as per task and standards applicable to the task at hand – e.g. machining to close tolerances.

Interpretation of Engineering drawings:

• Plan machining requirements for a job based on engineering drawings.

• Assist Supervisor with QA / QC inspections.

• Inspecting subcontractor’s workmanship (where sub-contractor work is applicable).

Safety:

• Perform risk assessments for every task assigned (HIRA).

• Take control of the workmanship and safety of trade workers / operators under his control.

• Ensure that Mintek’s safety standards and procedures are sustained with regard to machinery and to uphold prescribed safety standard procedures in his wokspace.

• Recommend improved work practices and amendments to procedures affecting workmanship and safety matters.

• Assist the supervisor with performing Safety inspection.

Execution of Workshop and Plant activities:

Typical activities expected to be performed by a qualified Artisan Fitter and Turner:

• Set machines and manufacture to quality standards.

• Machine components as per engineering drawing requirements.

• Precision marking out and measurement of work pieces using Vernier calipers, height gauges and micrometers.

• Machining and cutting of materials using lather machines, milling machines and power saws.

• General welding, screw cutting, drilling and taping of holes.

• Use hand held power tools (e.g. drill, angle grinder) to manufacture items.

• Structural and component assemblies.

Minimum requirements

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE: 

•    Min Education: Matric/N3 plus Trade Certificate as Fitter and Turner.
•    Min Training: – Trade test and a completed apprenticeship Fitter and Turner. (Lotus Notes, MS Office, CAD)
•    5 years minimum experience. 
•    Industry experience of at least 3 years in a workshop or field / project environment after qualification as a Fitter and Turner.

Job description

Contracts Management:
•    Plan, articulate and formulate Mintek’s contract management strategy applicable to the management of its portfolio of strategic contracts.
•    Develop and implement procedures for contract management and administration in compliance with company policy and best practice.
•    Be an expert on all matters of good contract management and governance within Mintek
•    Custodian of all Mintek contracts that involve the purchase of good and services
•    Drafting and revision of contracts/SLAs that involve the purchase of goods and services 
•    Identify commercial risk factors at the time of contracting / contract amendment and provide the required escape clauses, checking the financial risk in terms of the pricing and terms of price adjustments (i.e. frequency of adjustment and applicable escalation formulae).
•    Negotiate prices, terms and conditions with suppliers and ensure that negotiations are properly contracted, documented and filed. 

•    Implement commodity contracts and conduct annual pricing negotiations within the mandated escalation.
•    Serve as the point of contact for customers on contractual matters.
•    Compile and maintain an electronic contract register.
•    Monitor contract expiry and establish new contracts before expiry.
•    Prepare contract change notices, variation memos, addendums etc. 
•    Maintain contractual records and documentation such as receipt and control of all contract correspondence, customer contact information sheets, contractual changes, status reports and other documents. 
•    Ensure that signed contracts are communicated to all relevant parties to provide contract visibility and awareness.
•    Monitor and evaluate contract performance. 
•    Monitor and report on contract spend. 
•    Ensure contract close-out, extension or renewal.
•    Maintain an audit file for each contract which will include original contract, all correspondence, changes/deviations, amendments etc. 
•    Prepare contract briefs and revisions summarizing contractual requirements and budgets.
•    Conduct training on contract management to Supply Chain Management stakeholders and end-users as required.
•    Prepare and disseminate information to appropriate employees regarding contract status.

Reporting:
•    Compile the following monthly and quarterly management reports: 
•    Violations i.e. spend outside contracts, contract utilization, contracts which are about to expire i.e. 3 months & 6 months.

•    Ad-hoc reports as requested by Head SCM and Executive Manager. 

Continuous Improvement:

•    Assist in scoping project plans related to identified SCM interventions.

•    Execute repairs to failed equipment or plant and commission. Ensure high quality of workmanship to prevent recurrence of failure.

PROJECTS (minimum supervision)
•    Interpret drawings (PFD’s, P&ID’s and Structural) to assemble plant and equipment as requested by internal clients 
•    Design manufacture and install water, air, gas and steam reticulation according to relevant quality and safety standards.
•    Commission pilot plants
•    Assists internal clients in decommissioning pilot plants

OTHER
•    Perform risk assessment before carrying out work
