The role:
This is a leadership role involving Planning, leading, organizing and control of activities in his/her section
Responsibilities will include but not limited to:
- Management of shift Electrician’s availability and roster
- Manage the cost according to the budget
- Improve and enforce good maintenance standards and facilitate the review of Maintenance Management system
- Ensure that maintenance and repairs to equipment is completed timeously and to standard
- Ensure that Electrical legal maintenance is coordinated and controlled
- Meet the Engineering KPI targets in the department
- Ensure MHSA, Minerals Act, SHEQ standards and procedures are always maintained and complied with
- Be able to identify and report High Potential Incidents and High Potential Hazards
- Manage good housekeeping of the machines, workshop, sub stations and surrounding areas of responsibility
- Supervising and managing subordinates, including ensuring that employees are trained, found competent and authorized
- Conduct and manage the PTO schedule and conduct VFL interactions on a regular basis with employees
- Control overtime of employees and contractors to be within BCEA limits
- Co-ordination of task delegation within the department
- Ensure that the required contractors (Labour and spares) are available for services and shutdown work
- Conducting inspections and ensuring that the legal file is kept up to date
- Managing the Life of Components and the replacements thereof
- Initiating and driving continuous improvement plans and implementation
- Facilitate fault finding in the field from 24 V DC to 33 kVA
- MV switching within the Plant and Stockyard
- Construct JRA paperwork for Electrical tasks MV
- Certification of testing equipment
- VSD fault finding/configuration on both AC and DC applications
Requirements:
- National Certificate N3 or equivalent
- Recognised Electrical Trade Test Certificate
- Sound knowledge and understanding of applicable legislation
- Minimum 4 years’ experience as an Electrician
- To be proactive, hardworking, able to work overtime and be available for standby duties
- Proficiency in Microsoft office package e. Outlook, MS Word, MS Excel & MS PowerPoint
- A valid driver’s license
- In possession or able to obtain a valid Certificate of Fitness
Advantageous:
- Previous acting experience as a 9.2 appointment, Electrical role
- Working knowledge of SAP and Isometrix
- A minimum of 4 years’ experience as a Plant Artisan in the relevant trade
- SANS 10142 qualification
- A minimum of 4 years’ MV switching
- Sound knowledge of Plant and Stockyard Electrical equipment

The role:
The Section Rock Engineer is accountable for the implementation and coordination of rock engineering interventions and processes as well as the application of systems and processes aligned to best practice, to optimise safe extraction through advice and support. The Section Rock Engineer provides assistance to the operational personnel with design layouts and support systems that meet operational requirements, ensuring adherence to all relevant legislation, standards and codes of practices.
Responsibilities will include but not limited to:
- Ensure effective Rock Engineering service delivery and support to the Mining Operations, Mine Planning, Survey and Geology sections
- Ensure adherence to organisational best practice and legislative requirements
- Actively participate in creating a safe mining environment
- Maintain effective stakeholder relationships
- Ensure successful teamwork and supervision of Rock Engineering resources
- Continuous improvement of the Rock Engineering function
- Effectively monitor and control Rock Engineering activities
- Develop quality controls to ensure alignment of operational Rock Engineering interventions, systems and processes with standardization requirements as well as policies, procedures and operating standards
- Analyse and interpret Rock Engineering data and information to identify changes in the production environment, defects and safety risks
- Ensure effective service delivery and support to ensure a productive mining environment
- Conduct regular inspections and ensure problems are addressed proactively and aligned with Rock Engineering requirements
- Ensure that operating standards, policies and procedures are appropriate and clearly understood
- Ensure that all activities are performed in line with the Mine Health and Safety Act, and Minerals Act
- Provide coaching and advice to operational stakeholders related to strata control services and support aligned to best practices
- Provide input into the development of safety standards, processes, policies and procedures
Requirements:
- BSc Degree Degree/Diploma in Mining Engineering or a related science degree (NQF Level 7)
- Chamber of Mines Rock Mechanics Certificate: Coal
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in Strata Control/Rock Engineering in the coal mining industry
- Registered as a Rock Engineer with SANIRE
- Understanding of relevant safety and mining legislation including: The Mine Health and Safety Act and Minerals and Energy Act
- Knowledge of Rock Engineering practices, principles, processes, best practices and new technologies
- Computer literacy (MS Office and relevant Rock Engineering Packages)
- Valid K53 driver’s license
- In possession or able to obtain a valid Certificate of Fitness
Advantageous:
- Advanced certificate in Rock Engineering and/or MSc in Rock Engineering

The role:
The role is responsible to continuously monitor and analyse safety data and systems to minimize and mitigate employee exposure to unsafe and hazardous conditions. The role coordinates the maintenance of systems by conducting daily, weekly, and monthly analysis. Reporting the findings to the relevant line manager for action plans to be implemented and maintaining effective procedures and systems. Ensure compliance to the MHSA requirements in terms of reporting and inspections.
Responsibilities will include but not limited to:
- To conform to legal requirements and duties of 2.17.4.
- Manage day-to-day activities of safety officers
- Ensure that safety officers conduct workplace inspections
- Participate in Safety Audits ensuring all logistical arrangements in preparation for the audits are made
- Participate in Operational Issue–based Risk Assessments and compile action plans from risk assessments performed
- Ensure that the baseline risk assessment is up to date
- Setup, participate and co-ordinate Safety departmental meetings with all necessary stakeholders, including line managers and safety representatives
- Participate in SOP and COP updates and document drafting
- Compile reports that need to be submitted monthly to the Manager
- Conduct training and coaching
- Lead / facilitate investigations and complete the required records as per MHSA
- Complete reports that need to be submitted to Divisional Safety
- Isometrix support to end users
Requirements:
- Working towards completion of Degree/National Diploma in Safety Management, 10 subjects as minimum completed L1
- Minimum of 3 years’ mining experience in health and safety
- Mining or Technical professional with relevant Safety training and sound performance record inclusive of 1 year in middle management positions
- Learning from incidents investigation (LFI) experience
- In depth understanding of relevant safety and mining legislation including: The Mine Health and Safety Act, Mineral Regulations
- Good understanding of Operational Risk Management (ORM), safety management theory, behavioural safety and risk management framework procedures and systems
- Knowledge of Safety Management systems (Isometrix)
- Computer literacy (MS Office)
- Valid driver’s license
- In possession of or able to obtain a certificate of fitness
