Gate Guards X2

A vacancy exists for two (2) Gate Guards at Addo Elephant National Park (AENP Section). The successful incumbents will report to the APU Ranger Sergeant.

Requirements

  • Minimum Grade 12 (Std 10) Certificate.
  • Successful completion of the Ranger Fitness Selection Program.
  • Accredited Basic Field Ranger Training (will be an advantage)
  • Relevant experience in conservation will be an advantage.
  • Relevant experience in security/access control.
  • Working knowledge of relevant conservation legislation.
  • Must be willing to undergo a medical exam.

Responsibilities

  • Law enforcement will include participating in access control, secure workspace, reporting, and communication.
  • To resolve minor conflicts that may arise at the entrance gate.
  • To provide detailed information to guests about the park.
  • To prevent unauthorized removal of the park’s property, guard the entrance gate at the park.
  • To open the gate to allow employees, deliveries, contractors, and authorized guests to enter the park.
  • To check the credentials before allowing anyone to enter the park.
  • To control traffic to and from the park’s buildings and grounds.
  • To direct guests and authorized personnel to various parts of the park
  • To perform maintenance duties such as mowing lawns and sweeping gate areas, etc.
  • To record the arrival and departure of both employees and guests

Please Note

Official accommodation will be provided inside the park. It is an operational requirement for the successful candidate to live inside the park.

The remuneration package includes a basic salary, based on the salary scale of a position with a Paterson B1 grade, and allowances and benefits as specified in the HR Tariff Document and Conditions of Services of SANParks.

Field Ranger Sergeant

A vacancy currently exists for a Field Ranger Sergeant Position at Mountain Zebra National Park.

Location

Mountain Zebra National Park

Requirements

  • Grade 12 certificate
  • Certificate (NQF level 6)/National Diploma in Conservation or related fields
  • 2-5 years in field supervision of field rangers in a dangerous game area, and previous practical experience in natural resource management
  • EMI Grade 5
  • Field Ranger Basic Training
  • Code 8 driver’s licence
  • Computer literacy (MS Office, especially MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
  • A firearm competency certificate
  • Should be firearm competent and have a certificate. (NB: valid SAPS Competency Certificate; Original Training Competency Certificate for Business Unit Standards; PFTC Statement of results indicating the unit standards for Law and Business Purpose Unit Standards)
  • Sound communication and interpersonal skills
  • The willingness to be based at an outpost throughout the park
  • A healthy person with a high level of general fitness and mental alertness is required in this position
  • Must be physically fit and be prepared to undergo a fitness test before the interview
  • Must be willing to undergo a medical exam

Added Advantage:

  • 5-10 years of in-field experience in dangerous game
  • A valid code C1 driver’s license with a PDP will serve as an added advantage
  • Master Tracker Training
  • An Advanced Field Ranger training qualification
  • EMI Grade 2 certification will be an added advantage
  • Dog Handler Training

Responsibilities

  • To assist the Senior Section Ranger with all management-related aspects to deliver on the biodiversity, area integrity, and cultural heritage mandate.
  • To plan, implement, assess, and evaluate activities (patrols, firefighting, deployments, and census).
  • To assist in the daily control of the financial management of the section.
  • To assist with the management of asset control within the section.
  • To assist in maintaining purposeful relationships with key stakeholders.
  • To ensure the enforcement of good corporate governance and proactive risk management.
  • To supervise the human capital of the section (training, mentoring, and coaching).
  • To ensure effective patrolling for maximum area coverage.
  • To ensure compliance with state-of-the-art integrity management standards.
  • To enforce law, order, and discipline through all relevant legislation, policies, and procedures.
  • To assist in visitor management and safety when required.

The successful candidate will be required to reside inside the national park, official accommodation will be made available.

Independent Contractor: General Manager: Board Support (3 – 6 Months)

SANParks requires the services of an Independent Contractor: General Manager: Board Support. This role is for 3 to 6 months, based in Groenkloof National Park, Pretoria, and will report directly to the Chief Executive Officer.

Requirements

  • A 3-year relevant qualification in Business Administration, Corporate Governance, or a related field.
  • A minimum of 8 years of experience in executive support, governance, or board administration.
  • Strong knowledge of corporate governance principles and Board operations.
  • Exceptional communication, organizational, and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Board management software.
  • High level of integrity and confidentiality.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work under pressure.
  • Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure effective executive support to the Board, Board Chairperson, and Committee Chairpersons.
  • Manage seamless travel arrangements for all Board members.
  • Manage the Board’s allocated budget, including administering claims and related expenses.
  • Organize and coordinate Board meetings, ensuring all logistical requirements are effectively managed.
  • Coordinate all Board stakeholder interactions, including scheduling meetings and following up on outcomes and actions.
  • Serve as the primary liaison between the Board and key external stakeholders, including the DFFE Ministry and Parliament.
  • Manage and oversee all Board correspondence.
  • Facilitate Board members’ participation in meetings by collating briefing notes and necessary documents,
  • Act as a liaison between the Board, CEO, and management.
  • Communicate Board decisions promptly and maintain an updated resolution register.
  • Follow up with management on outstanding Board resolutions and decisions.
  • Attend Executive Committee (EXCO) meetings as required.
  • Oversee the implementation of the Board calendar.
  • Ensure timely circulation of Board and Committee meeting notices, in line with the Board Charter.
  • Prepare reports for Committee Chairpersons ahead of Board meetings.
  • Secure approval of Board and Committee agendas by relevant Chairpersons after consultation with the CEO.
  • Circulate approved agendas and Board documents promptly.
  • Ensure the timely production and distribution of meeting minutes by the designated service provider.
  • Ensure effective performance management of all direct reports.
  • Work with the CEO and designated officials to manage strategic Board projects.
  • Ensure full compliance with the Board Charter and relevant policies.
  • Manage any service providers appointed for the Board support.
  • Implement training programs to enhance awareness of governance and compliance requirements.

  • Identifying potential risks within the supply chain and implementing strategies to mitigate them.
  • Working closely with other departments and stakeholders to ensure alignment and support for supply chain activities.
  • Ensuring all supply chain activities complies with relevant laws, regulations, and organizational policies.
  • Reviewing and developing high-level procurement strategies.
