Director Infrastructure and Facilities
Key performance areas include but are not limited to:
- Direct the maintenance of all facilities and infrastructure on the campus
- Direct Auxiliary Services on campus; printing services and fleet services
- Take charge of all campus committee (infrastructure)
- Facilitate the effective management of all facilities of VUT
- Analyse information and evaluate results to choose the best solution to solve problems
- Oversee implementation of the campus development master plan
- Direct the planning and execution of new capital projects (small and large)
- Set up and effectively manage the operational and capital budgets and process on the campus
- Direct the compilation, updating and maintenance of the campus (physical) asset register
- Advise on the maintenance of all facilities and infrastructure
- Direct space management and space utilization, including space allocation
- Coordinate with Occupational Health and Safety regarding duties as per OHS Act
- Manage own operational staff effectively and efficiently
- Responsible for staff development and training within Operations
- Take part in academic and support activities by liaising with local sections, Executive Deans,
Heads of Department, Executive Directors. - Liaise with Protection Services to ensure effective and efficient services on campus.
- Serve in all VUT academic and support committees which have a bearing on infrastructure and
facilities. - Liaise effectively with internal and external stakeholders to represent VUT.
- Establish and maintain relationships with individual and business customers and provide
assistance. - Ensure effective planning, coordination and monitoring of large events in liaison with event
owner, Protection Services, Safety and Occupational Health in respect of facilities. - Create safe and conducive environment for all VUT internal and external stakeholders on the
campus. - Provide a healthy working environment for both internal and external stakeholders.
- Ensure compliance with relevant legislation (OHS Act, Building Regulations, etc.).
- Ensure compliance with VUT policies and procedures.
- Manage all campus related contracts and ensure compliance of these.
Qualification
- Honours degree (Quantity Surveying, Infrastructure Project Management)
Experience:
- Experience in operations and facilities management
- Minimum of 5–7 years in infrastructure development, with at least 3 years in senior or middle
management. - Experience working in a Higher Education environment
- National Treasury Infrastructure Reporting Training and Applications.
- Proven track record in managing infrastructure development and maintenance programmes
Added advantage:
- Registration with ECSA or relevant professional body an added advantage
Skills:
- Operational leadership and decision-making, financial management, project and contract
management, computer literacy (MS Office, project management tools), knowledge of South
African infrastructure legislation and frameworks, excellent communication and negotiation
skills.

research and plan. - Community engagement – Participate in community flagship programme/projects.
- Internal process – Conduct ad-hoc duties as assigned by the line-manager.

Qualification and Experience:
- Master’s degree in a Graphic Design-related field of study.
- Minimum of two (2) years of relevant teaching and learning in Higher Education.
- Relevant research experience will be a recommendation.
- Industrial or practice experience recommended.

- Minimum of six years teaching, learning, or at least six years industrial or practice relevant
experience. - Relevant research experience will be a recommendation.

ELECTRICAL TECHNOLOGY EDUCATION LECTURER
JOB SUMMARY
The Electrical Technology Education Lecturer will be responsible for delivering high-quality instruction,
fostering student engagement, and contributing to curriculum development in electrical technology
education. The role involves theoretical and practical teaching, research, and professional development
to enhance learning outcomes.
Key performance areas include but are not limited to:
- Deliver lectures, tutorials, and practical demonstrations in electrical technology.
- Develop and implement innovative teaching strategies and assessment methods. Foster a
supportive and inclusive learning environment that encourages student participation and
success. - Develop and update curriculum materials aligned with industry and academic standards.
Collaborate with colleagues to enhance programme offerings and ensure alignment with
institutional goals. - Supervise laboratory sessions and ensure the safe use of electrical equipment.
- Assess student performance through assignments, exams, and practical assessments.
- Conduct research in electrical technology education and contribute to academic publications in
reputable peer-reviewed journals. Seek external funding and grants to support research
initiatives. Present research findings at academic conferences and engage with the broader
educational community. - Supervise and mentor undergraduate and postgraduate students in their academic and
research pursuits. - Collaborate with industry partners to enhance programme relevance and professional
opportunities. - Participate in faculty meetings, accreditation processes, and quality assurance activities.
- Stay current with developments in the field of education and engage in continuous professional
development. Contribute to the academic community through participation in workshops,
seminars etc. - Conduct ad-hoc duties as assigned by the line manager
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- A relevant Master’s in Electrical Technology education or a closely related field
- Teaching experience in Further Education and Training (FET) phase or higher education
institutions. - Strong understanding of curriculum development and pedagogical strategies for electrical
technology education. - Knowledge of blended learning and technology-enhanced teaching methodologies.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Master’s degree in Electrical Technology/Engineering with a qualification in education at NQF
7 OR Master’s degree in education with a specialisation in Electrical Technology/Engineering - Enrolled for a PhD qualification (added advantage).
- Minimum of two years of teaching experience in electrical technology at higher education
institutions or schools. - Strong understanding of pedagogical methods in Electrical Technology.
- Experience in supervising students’ research projects/theses (added advantage).
- Proven track record of research output and scholarly publications in reputable peer-reviewed
journals/conferences (added advantage). - Industry experience in electrical engineering (added advantage).
- Experience in developing and implementing innovative curricula and assessment methods
(added advantage). - Ability to integrate technology into teaching (e.g., 3D printing, IoT, AI).
SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES:
Ability to integrate hands-on practical training with theoretical instruction.
Ability to collaborate with colleagues and contribute to departmental initiatives.
