Description

The Video Wall Operator is responsible for the creation, operation, and delivery of sequential graphics for display on the video wall during both live and pre-recorded productions. This role ensures that all graphical elements are prepared, tested, and executed to meet editorial and technical standards in a high-pressure broadcast environment.

Preparation and Technical Readiness

Prepare video wall graphics according to the running order.

Load and test all graphical content pre-broadcast.

Ensure accuracy and playout functionality of all graphics.
Conduct thorough spelling and content checks.
Run on-air tests as required.

Coordinate with producers and directors to load and cue relevant visuals, graphics, and video feeds in line with rundown timing.

Prepare video wall content (static, animated, live feeds) using newsroom graphics systems

Coordinate with editorial and graphics teams to format content for optimal display.

Participate in rehearsals, editorial meetings, and technical tests to prepare for special segments or shows.

Production Operations

Operate and manage studio video wall and large-format displays during live and pre-recorded broadcasts.

Route live feeds appropriately to the video wall.

Playout video wall elements during live broadcasts as per the running
 order.

Ensure accurate timing, transitions, and display configurations during segments.

Maintain system logs, backups, and operational checklists.

Troubleshoot and resolve video wall system issues quickly, especially during live broadcasts.

Support the technical team in regular maintenance and software updates of the video wall systems (as required).

Execute visual transitions and cues precisely under live broadcast conditions.

Coordination and Workflow

Complete graphics requests using approved templates.

Operate graphics playout systems during live and pre-recorded segments.

Build animations using template-driven software.

Input titles, supers, credits, and other text elements with accuracy.

Design and Visual Creativity

Design visually compelling graphics tailored to the program and audience.

Develop innovative visuals to enhance viewer engagement.

Ensure all designs align with brand guidelines and editorial tone.

Requirements

Qualifications

National Diploma in Media and/or Graphics and/or appropriate field of discipline – Essential

Bachelors Degree in Media and/or Graphics and/or appropriate field of discipline – Recommended

Experience

3 years with Graphic Design Background

Language

English – Advanced

Technology Proficiency

Repairs and Services:

  • Assisting with basic repairs and maintenance of generators, trucks, and vehicles under supervision, in line with scheduled services.
  • Supporting the setup and preparation for load testing on generators using the load bank.
  • Learning and following all workshop protocols and service requirements during maintenance tasks.
  • Assisting the Electro Mechanic in maintaining accurate service and maintenance records.
  • Observing and learning to check generator operator checklists for inconsistencies, and reporting issues to senior team members.

Ad Hoc Assistance:  

  • Assisting with dispatching and receiving gear and equipment when required.
  • Providing general workshop support as needed, including organising tools, equipment, and materials.
  • Helping maintain workshop cleanliness and adhering to good housekeeping practices at all times.

  • Helping document and report basic fault-finding to the supervisor.
  • Carrying out minor repair duties or support tasks as requested by the supervisor or manager.

Quality Control:

  • Helping ensure that equipment is cleaned, safely stored, and meets basic safety and service requirements.
  • Reporting:
  • Assisting with completing Missing and Damage Reports (M&Ds) and tracking items moved into or out of repair status (“Hospital”).

Stocktaking:

  • Assisting in and ensuring that Company Inventory / Stock counts are conducted with precision.

Finance Assistance:

  • Assisting with daily financial tasks, including data entry, invoice processing, bank reconciliations, and financial reporting.
  • Assisting with the processing of invoices.
  • Processing journals such as accruals and provisions in preparation of monthly reports.
  • Assisting with the clearance of the debtors and creditors age analysis.
  • Reconciling balance sheet accounts.
  • Assisting with reports to analyse trends.
  • Providing daily support on all outstanding balances as and when required.
  • Performing ad hoc accounting duties.
  • Providing general assistance to the Accountant, Debtors Controller, Invoicing Clerk, and Finance Manager.

Administration & Analysis:

  • Reviewing office-related purchases and purchase orders to ensure correct procedures are followed and cost control measures are adhered to.
  • Assisting with debtors administration and documentation as required.
  • Maintaining a filing system for receipts and invoices.
  • Receiving and redirecting calls.
  • Participating in team meetings with the finance team.
  • Performing ad hoc administrative tasks and financial analysis as required by the Financial Manager.
  • Coordinating with the rentals team to ensure the completion of all rentals invoicing.

Payroll Assistance:

  • Ensuring overtime, cell phone, and travel claims are duly authorised prior to payroll processing.
  • Assisting staff with completing leave applications and ensuring leave is duly authorised.

Debtors Assistance:

  • Assisting the debtors department as a backup.
  • Opening new accounts if/when required.
  • Sending out statements if/when required.
  • Assisting with any other debtor queries that may arise.
