Job Purpose
The Department of Agriculture, Western Cape Government has an opportunity for a suitably qualified and competent individual to provide technical services and support in sustainable resource management, operations and maintenance.

Minimum Requirements
An appropriate 3-year National Diploma/B-Degree (equivalent or higher qualification) in Civil Engineering; Compulsory registration with the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA) as an Professional Engineering Technician; A minimum of 3 years relevant post qualification technical (engineering) experience.

Key Performance Areas Render technical services: Assist engineers, technologists and associates in field, workshop and technical office activities; Promote safety in line with statutory and regulatory requirements; Evaluate existing technical manuals, standard drawings and procedures to incorporate new technology and produce technical designs with specifications and submit for evaluation and approval by the relevant authority; Perform administrative and related functions; Provide input into the budgeting process as required; Compile and submit reports as required; Provide and consolidate inputs to the technical/engineering operational plan; Develop, implement and maintain databases; Supervise and control technical and related personnel and assets; Research and development: Continuous professional development to keep up with new technologies and procedures; Research/literature studies on technical engineering technology to improve expertise; Liaise with relevant stakeholders on engineering related matters.

Remuneration
Grade A: R 391 671 – Grade C: R 586 665 per annum, (Salary will be determined based on post registration experience as per OSD prescribed).

Note on remuneration: Cost-to-employer (CTE) remuneration packages for certain occupation-specific dispensations (OSD) are inclusive of all costs related to service benefits or obligations including basic salary, 13th cheque, medical assistance, housing assistance, pension-fund contributions, etc. Where remuneration is not indicated as CTE, employees’ service benefits or obligations are funded or co-funded in terms of the applicable prescripts or collective agreements.

Notes

Job Purpose
The Department of Agriculture, Western Cape Government has an opportunity for a suitably qualified and competent individual to monitor and control abattoirs in the Western Cape Province to ensure compliance with the Meat Safety Act, (Act No. 40 of 2000). The successful incumbent must be prepared to work after hours if required.

Minimum Requirements
An appropriate 3 year National Diploma/B-Degree (equivalent or higher) qualification in Environmental Health; A minimum of 1 year relevant experience in an abattoir environment; A valid code B (or higher) driving licence.

Key Performance Areas
Practical experience of meat safety risk management and export controls; Practical knowledge of hygiene management systems and food safety risk assessment applicable to food processing establishments, including abattoirs; Working knowledge of the Meat Safety Act, 2000 (Act no. 40 of 2000) and Regulations. A valid registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa is recommended.

Competencies
Good administrative skills and knowledge of administrative procedures; Sound organisational and planning skills; Computer literacy; A sense of responsibility; Good interpersonal / communication skills.

R 397 116 – R 467 790 per annum (Salary level 8)
