2x General Workers

Two (2) x vacancies currently exist in the Golden Gate Highlands National Park: Gladstone Section, for a General Worker in the Conservation Department based at the Stables. The successful candidates will report to the Field Ranger Corporal.

Requirements

  • Grade 12 certificate (Std 10) required or equivalent NQF Level 4 qualification.
  • Proficiency in English (spoken, read, and written) as well as any additional language.
  • Must be physically fit (fitness test to be conducted).
  • Chainsaw and Brushcutter experience, attach certificate or competency.
  • Experience in horse riding, working at a Stable and saddling horses.

Added Advantage:

  • Exposure to nature conservation related work (invasive plant clearing, integrated fire management that includes wildfire suppression, implementation of firebreaks, prescribed burns).
  • Basic Firefighting Certificate.
  • Knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHS Act).
  • Knowledge of Laws, regulations, policies, procedures, and standards relevant to the field.
  • Certificate in Basic First Aid.

Responsibilities

  • To assist in identifying and reporting horse related ailments to the Stable Supervisors/Horse Handler.
  • Assist with horse vaccinations, feeding, medical care and grooming when needed.
  • General maintenance at the Stable and upkeep of terrain, gardens, cleanliness of the paddocks, clean/cut grass around the Stables and Offices
  • To ensure riding equipment – saddles and bridles are cleaned and maintained.
  • Assist other Stables staff with Visitor outrides as needed.
  • Assisting with erecting and maintaining fences.
  • Assist on wildfire suppression, conducting prescribed burns and preparation of fire breaks.
  • Assisting with soil erosion and invasive plant control.
  • Infrastructure maintenance including buildings, hiking trails, and signage.
  • To ensure a high level of OHS practices are applied.

The role requires availability for duties on daily basis, weekends, and public holidays.

Manager: Supply Chain Management

SANParks requires the services of a Manager: Supply Chain Management based in the Kruger National Park (KNP – Skukuza) to oversee and drive the SCM team under Finance & SCM Management.

The ideal Candidate for the role will have experience in leading and managing a wide range of SCM operations in Finance and SCM Management, both at Operational and strategic levels in a similar entity.

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Supply Chain Management / Logistics / Commerce
  • Professional certifications such as Certified Supply Chain Professional (CSCP), Certified Purchasing Manager (CPM), Certified Professional in Supply Chain Management (CPSM), Certified in Production and Inventory Management (CPIM), or Chartered Institute of Procurement & Supply (CIPS) can be beneficial.
  • 5-7 years of experience in supply chain management with a minimum of 3 years in a supervisory or managerial role working in or within public sector organisation.
  • Ability to develop and implement effective supply chain strategies that align with good organisational goals.
  • Understanding of procurement policies and compliance requirements.
  • In-depth knowledge of supply chain management processes.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to optimise supply chain management operations.
  • Strong leadership skills to manage teams, projects, and cross functional initiatives.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for interacting with various stakeholders, including officials, suppliers and team members.
  • Experience in managing relationships with suppliers and negotiating contracts.
  • Ability to manage budgets and financial aspects of supply chain management operations.
  • Commitment to driving continuous improvement and efficiency in supply chain management processes.

Responsibilities

  • Managing the end-to-end supply chain management processes.
  • Developing and enforcing policies and procedures to ensure efficient, compliant, and cost-effective supply chain management processes.
  • Tracking and analysing key performance indicators to measure the effectiveness and efficiency of the supply chain.
  • Identifying potential risks within the supply chain and implementing strategies to mitigate them.
  • Working closely with other departments and stakeholders to ensure alignment and support for supply chain activities.
  • Ensuring all supply chain activities complies with relevant laws, regulations, and organizational policies.
  • Reviewing and developing high-level procurement strategies.

Boma Assistant (x3)

A vacancy currently exists for three Boma Assistants be based at Veterinary Wildlife Services, Skukuza in the Kruger National Park, reporting to the Boma Supervisor. The positions are graded at a Patterson B1 level.

Requirements

  • Minimum 1-2 years’ experience in the wildlife capture industry / care of wildlife in holding facilities.
  • Possession of a Grade 12 certificate.
  • Possession of a National Diploma: Nature Conservation / Wildlife Management or equivalent would be an added advantage.
  • Possess job-related knowledge of wildlife industry standard operating procedures and animal welfare requirements.
  • Be willing to work flexible hours e.g. weekends & after hours when required.
  • Must have a basic understanding of the principles of the Occupational Health & Safety Act.
  • Must be in good physical health.
  • Experience with maintenance tasks (brickwork, plastering, welding, carpentry or plumbing) would be an advantage.
  • Experience as a brush-cutter and chainsaw operator, and experience with driving tractors would be an advantage.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Code B or C1 drivers’ licence would be an added advantage.

Responsibilities

  • Provide fodder and water to wildlife in the holding facility, timeously according to agreed nutritional requirements.
  • Maintain facility hygiene and remove and dispose of animal waste and spoiled fodder from the holding facility.
  • Monitor and report on any perceived concerns pertaining to the welfare of wildlife held in the boma facility or the fodder stock.
  • Assist in handling of wildlife during the implementation of wildlife sales/translocation projects or research projects implemented by the department.
  • Assist with offloading and storage of fodder stock deliveries (sourced internally and externally).
  • Assist in general Boma operations.
  • Maintain the cleanliness of buildings, stores and other structures.
  • Perform maintenance tasks at the facilities managed by the department, including clearing of excess vegetation, fence maintenance, application of approved herbicides, repairs to boma structures etc.
  • Report any equipment malfunctions or safety hazards to supervisors.
  • Maintain a general checklist of animals in captivity as part of the monitoring requirement by the job function.
  • Adhere to OHS standard operating procedures.

Specialist Assistant: Boma (Kimberley)

A vacancy currently exists for a Specialist Assistant: Boma to be based in the Kimberley Veterinary Wildlife Services. This role in Veterinary Wildlife Services provides support in the capture, care and handling of wildlife within the national parks. This includes feeding of animals, administrative duties, transportation of fodder and animals, maintenance of boma facilities, and operation of LDV, trucks, tractors, and vehicle trailers as per the standard operating procedures and set annual targets.

Requirements

  • Matric (Grade 12)
  • Code C1 driver’s licence with PDP
  • Minimum of 1-4 years in the wildlife capture industry/care of wildlife in holding facilities.
  • Communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Project management/administration experience.
  • First aid level 1 will serve as an added advantage
  • Experience in operating a chainsaw or brush cutter will serve as an added advantage

Responsibilities

  • Provide fodder and water to wildlife in the holding facility, timeously according to agreed nutritional requirements.
  • Maintain facility hygiene and remove and dispose of animal waste and spoiled fodder from the holding facility.
  • Monitor and report on any perceived concerns pertaining to the welfare of wildlife held in the boma facility or the fodder stock.
  • Harvest and collect natural forage for wildlife consumption in holding facilities.
  • Handling of wildlife during the implementation of wildlife sales/translocation projects or research projects implemented by the department across the national parks and partners.
  • Monitor storage of fodder stock deliveries (sourced internally and externally).
  • Driving the LDVs, trucks, tractors, and vehicle trailers as required.
  • Operate specialized equipment (truck-mounted cranes, overhead cranes, etc).
  • May be required to perform other related duties as assigned by the supervisor, including, but not limited to, assisting with in inter-departmental operations such as wildlife off-takes or other technical tasks as required in support of SANParks’ operations.
  • Perform maintenance tasks at the facilities managed by the department, including clearing of excess vegetation, fence maintenance, application of approved herbicides, repairs to boma structures and capture equipment etc.
  • Carry out day-to-day administrative duties as required by the job function
  • Adhere to OHS and Veterinary standard operating procedures.
