Position: Assistant Manager Finance

Key responsibilities

The brief description outlined above will involve the following specific duties:

■Responsible for month end close process in line with wider group which includes the following:

■Preparation and posting of monthly journals,

■Maintain and update the fixed asset register,

■Analysis of revenue and determination of revenue accrual,

■Balancing intercompany loan accounts,

■Analysis of trial balance and general ledger with    corrections if required,

■Balance sheet reconciliations,

■Tax computations and related journal entries.

■Cash flow management;. 

■Preparation of management accounts;

■Prepare annual financial statements

■Manage and run statutory audits;

■Queries from internal departments as well as external parties;

■Regulatory filings

■Annalise and present results to local entity boards

■Willingness to learn and develop.

■Organised and attention to detail.

■The ability to work independently as well as in teams within other areas of the Finance group.

■Strong communication skills.

Skills / experience

Recently qualified CA (SA) with:

■Audit training experience at an audit firm.

■CA(SA)

■Strong Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint usage.

■Willingness to learn and develop.

■Organised and attention to detail.

■The ability to work independently as well as in teams within other areas of the Finance group.

■Strong communication skills.

Controller – Finance CA(SA)

Johannesburg, South Africa


We are seeking a Controller, reporting to a Senior Manager within the Finance Division.

Apex is seeking a Finance Controller to join the group finance team to fulfil the role as legal entity controller for the Middle East. The role involves the accurate accounting of legal entities and detailed review of costs to ensure the accuracy, integrity and completeness of the accounting records. The ideal candidate should have at least two years of experience, as well as a recognized accreditation (CA, CIMA, CPA).

Key responsibilities:

The brief description outlined above will involve the following specific duties:

  • Oversight of the timely month end close process for a number of legal entities, ensuring accounting is in line with group and company policies
  • Management of a number of legal entity audits and ensuring timely submission of financial statements before regulatory deadlines
  • Oversight of the production number of the statutory financial statements
  • Oversight of the timely production of a number of regulatory reports ensuring ongoing compliance with relevant regulatory capital requirements at all times
  • Oversight of payment procedures of a number of legal entities ensuring appropriate cash management at all times
  • Management of the annual budget process
  • Liaise closely with the Country Heads Local Managing Director
  • Accounting support for billing and FP&A teams
  • Stay current and abreast of relevant IFRS developments that impact the firm
  • Manage ad hoc requests as necessary

Skills / experience:

  • Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail
  • Good understanding and well-versed in accounting principles and concepts
  • 0 – 2 years’ post article experience
  • Proficient with Excel, accounting systems and general IT
  • Conversant in IFRS
  • Self-motivated, proactive, resilient, and resourceful
  • An ability to work to and meet agreed deadlines
  • Ability to work under pressure
  • Ability to work on one’s own initiative
  • Exceptional communication and stakeholder management skills, both verbal and written in English
  • Confident and credible partnering with stakeholders and sponsors to high level and driving broader business engagement in change

Preferably:

  • Experience in audit would be ideal, but not necessary
  • Interest in financial services e.g., fund administration, banking
  • Creative thinker with aptitude for diagnosing problems/issues and proposing solutions
  • Experience with accounting/financial control mechanisms
  • Experience with US Tax

ASSISTANT FINANCE MANAGER

LOCATION: SOUTH AFRICA

Department: Finance

Employment Type: Fulltime

Due to the continued expansion of the Apex Group, the finance department is actively seeking to recruit an Assistant Finance Manager to join the team. The assistant finance manager will be responsible for a number of entities within the group and will work within the European finance team but will be also communicating with other regional finance teams. The assistant finance manager will report to the finance manager locally.

Job Specification:

  • Overseeing the team, setting goals and objectives and a plan to achieve these
  • Overseeing the month end process leading to the submission of accurate monthly management accounts in a timely manner for a number of entities
  • Overseeing client invoicing, aged receivables and related matters
  • Overseeing accounts payable and related payments
  • Overseeing the preparation and reconciliation of monthly accruals and prepayments
  • Overseeing the preparation of monthly bank reconciliations
  • Preparation and oversight of cash flows and related analysis
  • Preparation and oversight of monthly variance analysis against prior months and budgets
  • Preparation and oversight of monthly and ad hoc group reporting
  • Preparation and oversight of capital adequacy requirement reporting
  • Preparation and assistance in the monthly payroll process
  • Preparation and assistance in periodic VAT returns
  • Preparation and oversight of financial statements
  • Assisting with the annual audits and liaising with auditors
  • Attend to any ad-hoc requests as they arise

Skills Required:

  • A University degree in Accountancy or ACCA qualification
  • An ability to work to and meet agreed deadlines
  • Ability to work under pressure
  • Competence in Excel, general IT and accounting packages
  • A minimum of 3 years’ experience in a similar role
  • Experience in audit would be ideal, but not necessary

Job Title: Tax Accountant (Tax Practitioner)
Location: Johannesburg

Job specification

  • Prepare / Review tax computations.
  • Coordinate internally to ensure timely filing of quarterly and annual tax returns for all clients.
  • Monitor status of client tax compliance by reviewing the tax reports and producing KPIs.
  • Assist with regular internal training sessions/tax updates sessions.
  • Provide technical support on tax matters to client service units based on established procedures.
  • Assist in preparation of tax technical papers and new tax procedures.
  • Review queries received for all clients centrally and provide guidance to client service units on required course of action.
  • Liaise with clients in respect of SARS queries, and review/amend reply to letters and supporting documents.
  • Liaise with SARS in respect of client tax matters and attend meetings with SARS officers on behalf of clients.
  • Assist in drafting and submitting application for tax rulings.
  • Conduct applied research on domestic and international tax issues.
  • Review changes in tax laws, analyse implications and arrange for implementation of same.
  • Any other duty that may be communicated to you by your Manager and Directors.

Skills Required:

Strong Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint usage.

Recently qualified CA (SA) or a candidate with SAICA articles with audit training experience or a SAIPA candidate with an interest in international tax and research.

A registered Tax Practitioner.

Candidate must have had exposure to taxation during their articles training.

Attention to detail with a strong control mindset.

Organised and attention to detail

Willingness to learn and develop.

Has a proactive mindset and can work autonomously with minimal supervision.

A natural problem solver and pragmatic approach in dealing with technical or operational issues.

Strong communication skills.
