ARTISAN ELECTRICIAN X2
DIRECTORATE: ELECTRICAL SERVICES
Task Level 10: R309 240 to R401 376 (Basic Salary)
R485 665 to R604 803 (Total Cost to Council Package)
(PERMANENT APPOINTMENT)

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS:

  • Grade 12 or equivalent N4 certificate
  • 3 years’ relevant experience
  • Valid Electrician Trade Certificate
  • High Voltage Regulations (ORHVS Regs)
  • First Aid Level 1
  • Code C1 Public Driving Licence
  • PRDP- Professional driving permit (PrDP)
  • Physically healthy and fit
  • Be able to work at heights
  • Exposure to SSEG, inverters, UPS and solar plant environment (would be an added advantage)
  • Proficiency in English and at least one of the other official languages of the Western Cape Province

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS:

  • Perform High Voltage switching on the electrical system as per ORHVS
  • Co-ordinate activities/ sequences associated with trouble shooting/ fault finding and repairing to medium/ low voltage reticulation and electrical systems
  • Perform activities and sequences associated with maintaining the functionality of medium/ low voltage electrical reticulation system
  • Maintaining, constructing, installing and commissioning of the electrical network of Knysna municipal area, which include: – 11 kV and 22kV overhead lines, underground cables, switchgear, Mini-Substations, Ring Main Units (RMU), Transformers 400V/ 230V distribution Kiosks, and allied work as well as 11kV and 22kV cable joint using heat shrink
  • Maintaining streetlights and high mast lights
  • Maintaining traffic lights
  • Installation of new domestic service connections and pre-paid meter installations and conversations
  • Undertake inspections of electrical installations and report on findings in respect of guidelines provided
  • Responsible for on-site Occupational Health and Safety and Supervision of staff
  • Attend to customer electrical faults/ complaints
  • Perform overtime and standby duties on a roster basis
  • Perform specific tasks associated with the operation of heavy and/ or specialised vehicles and equipment (Crane Trucks, etc.) during electrical installation, repair and maintenance activities
  • Adhering to all safety and health practices and promote good housekeeping on an ongoing basis
