The above-mentioned position Is available in the Visitor Operations Department at Robben Island Museum. The incumbent will be responsible for conducting research and combining the information in a story that gives tourists an opportunity to recognise and acknowledge Robben Islands political history, marine history, history of buildings, geographical information and the natural environment.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Analyse Tour roster,
- Verify appropriate Vehicle and driver are available,
- Check Guide equipment in Vehicle,
- Receive Tourists at the harbour,
- Access the needs of the tourists and co-ordinate necessary arrangements (e.g. wheelchairs and prams),
- Acquaint the tourist with the tour structure, amenities and the rules and Regulations of Robben Island,
- Conduct the tour of Robben Island highlighting the information on marine history, political history, history of buildings, geographical information and natural environment,
- Correlate Information about the history of the world and Robben Island context,
- Manage stops during tours,
- Conclude tours and hand over tourists to Prison Guides,
- Search information relating to Robben Island history and political issues (internet, newspaper, policies, videos etc.),
- Participate in discussions, forums, meetings and training sessions within or outside the organisation,
- Discuss and expand information with peers and management,
- Design and include relevant information in tour,
- General Administration duties.
Experience and Technical skills:
- Registered Tour Guide,
- Diploma/Degree in Tourism/History or Social Science
- First Aid certificate,
- 2 years relevant experience,
- Fluency in English and 1 other official language,
- Understanding of South African and world political history and current events,
- Knowledge of Environment heritage and Tourism,
- Fluency in a Foreign Language would be an advantage.

The above- mentioned positions are available in the Visitor Operations Department at Robben Island Museum. The purpose of the job to assist in transporting visitors and resident to and from the prison and around the island, shuttling residents from the harbour to their place of resident in the village on the island, drive the bus and be able to sleep over on the Island and be able to work shifts.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Transporting visitors following a pre-planned route to a definite time schedule.
- Regulating heating equipment and ventilation of the bus for the comfort of passengers;
- Driving the bus in a safe speed according to the compliance with the National Roads Traffic Acts and regulations;
- Assuming responsibility for the safety of the visitors in loading, unloading and transporting them to and from various sites;
- Conducting vehicle inspection on a daily basis
- Checking water, fuel, oil and mechanical condition before following daily task;
- Keeping operational records and compile simple reports;
- Reporting defects or problems with vehicle to the unit manager;
- Adhering to maintenance schedules instructions;
- Reporting delays or accidents;
- Signing of log books on a daily basis to keep operational records;
- Assisting passengers, such as elderly or disabled individuals, on and off the bus, ensure they are seated properly;
- Communicating to passengers of likely delays;
- Check wheel ramps all the time to help disabled customers as and when required.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- Grade 10-12.
- Appropriate valid unendorsed Driver’s licence code 14 with PrDP
- Completion of basic first aid and driving course.
- 5 years verifiable driving experience on light and heavy vehicles;
- Knowledge of safety rules and regulations;
- No drunken driving

Ambulance Supervisor

The above short-term position exists in the Infrastructure and Facility Management Department at Robben Island Museum, An EMS supervisor is responsible for managing the daily activities and performance of EMS crews, vehicles, and equipment. EMS Supervisors serve as primary liaisons for clinical oversight, prospective, concurrent, and retrospective quality improvement, education, operational coordination, and issue resolution within the prehospital emergency medical services system
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Operational Management: Oversee daily ambulance operations, ensuring efficient deployment of resources and crews.
- Team Leadership: Supervise, guide, and evaluate ambulance crew members, including paramedics and emergency
medical technicians (EMTs). - Quality Assurance: Monitor and improve patient care, safety, and service quality.
- Incident Command: Serve as incident commanders or scene managers during major incidents or disasters.
- Communication: Liaise with hospitals, emergency services, and other stakeholders to ensure effective coordination and response.
- Training and Development: Identify training needs and provide coaching, mentoring, and educational opportunities for
crew members. - Compliance and Risk Management: Ensure adherence to regulations, policies, and procedures, and identify potential risks and mitigation strategies.
- Fleet and Equipment Management: Oversee maintenance, repair, and replacement of ambulances and medical equipment.
- Budgeting and Resource Allocation: Manage budgets, resources, and personnel to optimize service delivery.
- Community Engagement: Participate in community outreach, education, and public relations activities to promote the ambulance service.
Qualification, Experience and Technical skill
- ILS Paramedic/EMT or other relevant higher medical qualification with 5 years of experience
- Registered with Health Professions Council of South Africa,
- Valid Ambulance Driver Certificate,
- Valid Driver’s License code C1 with valid PDP at least 3 years of driving experience
- Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work under pressure and make critical decisions in high stress situations.
- Knowledge of Ambulance Norms and Standard, EMS regulations, policies, and procedures
- Significant experience in EMS, preferably in a supervisory or leadership role
- Knowledge of Batho Pele Principles will be advantageous,

The above short-term position exists in the Infrastructure and Facility Management Department at Robben Island Museum. Paramedics (Basic Life Support) is responsible for deliver immediate medical care in emergency situations.
They provide essential life-saving treatment, including first aid, to individuals in critical conditions, making a significant impact on saving lives and promoting patient well-being.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Operates ambulances and other company equipment safely and efficiently.
- Complies with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations and laws pertaining to but not limited to protocols, standards of care, motor vehicle operations, and patient rights, as well as all Robben Island Museum Ambulance rules, policies, directives, or instructions from management.
- Prepares inventories, stocks supply, and inspects equipment for proper operation.
- Demonstrates the attitude of a Health Care Professional to include, but not be limited to, maintaining a clean appearance, demonstrating courteous, professional, and ethical behaviour, and demonstrating the ability to work cooperatively with other members of the EMS Health Care System.
- Demonstrates a sincere desire to continually improve and upgrade the skills and knowledge of the emergency medical profession.
- Demonstrates the ability to safely lift, transfer, and manoeuvre patients in and out of ambulances, facilities, residences, and other locations.
- Demonstrates the ability to render competent patient care in both pre-hospital and inter-facility setting.
- Effectively and professionally communicates with patients, family members, medical personnel, coworkers, and the public in verbal and written form.
- Demonstrates knowledge and compliance with local, state, and regional emergency medical service
operations. - Demonstrates, by attendance and documentation, compliance with the Robben Island Museum and/or the Department of Health requirements for continuing education and licensure.
- Demonstrates the knowledge and ability to function in the System Status Management program.
- Maintains a clean and complete uniform, personal hygiene, and professional, pleasant, and polite demeanour to all persons with whom the individual comes in contact while on duty.
- Completes and maintains accurate records and documentation regarding transport, equipment inspection,
- supplies usage incidents, and other forms of documentation inherent in the operation.
- Promotes the company, performs public relations when assigned, performs standby coverage at special
events, delivers medical supplies and equipment when assigned and other details when assigned. - Inspects and promptly reports damage, deficiencies, safety issues or other problems with ambulances, company vehicles, equipment and supplies, or any other matters relevant to the safe, efficient, and proper operation of the company.

- Document the entire research process.
Minimum requirements:
- Unemployed graduate or prior work experience in Archival Studies/ Records Management
- Excellent telephone manner and excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficiency in English and at least one other of the official languages spoken in South Africa.
- Valid Code 8 driver’s license.
