eThekwini Municipality is offering excellent bursary opportunities to South African citizens interested in a rewarding career, in:

  1. Electrical Engineering
  2. Mechanical Engineering
  3. Civil Engineering
  4. Chemical Engineering
  5. Electronic Engineering
  6. Architecture
  7. Quantity Surveying
  8. Property Valuer

Preference will be given to applicants who have passed at least their first year of studies at a recognized institution, and applicants must include their full academic record. Applications from students who are only due to start their studies in 2025 must include proof of their acceptance from a South African public university and matric results.

The benefits of the bursary include accommodation fees, tuition fees, examination fees, a book allowance and a once-off computer allowance in the second year of study (subject to compliance with Municipal Bursary agreement).

Eligibility Requirements Applicants must satisfy the following minimum entry criteria before applying (please note that failure to satisfy all the requirements will lead to your application not being considered): 1. South African citizen. 2.Completed Matric OR currently in Matric. 3. Strong academic record. 4. Studying or plan to study full-time towards an undergraduate qualification in one of the above-mentioned fields of study. 5. Studying or planning to study at a recognized South African tertiary institution. 6. Acceptance to study for the above qualifications Applicants will be required to undergo an assessment as part of the process for consideration.

Details EThekwini Municipality invites qualifying applicants who are South African Citizens permanently residing in eThekwini Municipal Area and wish to commence or continue studying towards their first undergraduate studies in a public higher education institution in the 2025 academic year to apply for eThekwini Municipal Student Relief Fund.

This financial assistance is for a full-time study programme at a public higher education institution NOT PRIVATE and will be awarded based on academic performance. The financial assistance is mainly for registration and a provision may be made towards a portion of tuition fees NOT accommodation, meals, books, sports, transportation and/or any other related costs.

People with disabilities are also encouraged to apply.

It is the student’s responsibility to apply for admission and get acceptance to a higher education institution. Students are encouraged to further apply for financial assistance from other funding sources as this funding will not cover the costs of studying.


Eligibility Requirements Applications should include the following information/documents 1. A copy of a Matric certificate if you have completed your NSC (Matric)and have not studied in any higher education institution. 2. An academic record if you are currently studying at a higher education institution. 3. Proof of income/salary of both parent(s) and guardians (e.g., pay slip / letter from employer or sworn statement or tax return statement for self-employed parents or guardian (s). The income of parents combined and/or guardian is R160 000.00, and should there be 2 or more students in a household, the cut-off is R200 000.00. 4. Proof of unemployment if parents are unemployed from the Department of Labour. 5. Certified copy of your South African ID. 6. Parents or guardian (s) ID copies or death certificate (s) where applicable. 7. Acceptance letter from the public higher education institution. 8. Financial statement from a higher education institution. 9. Motivation from the applicant on why you should be considered for financial assistance. 10. Proof of residence with the name of the applicant
