The Instrument Technologist will be responsible for the installation, maintenance, calibration, troubleshooting, and optimization of instrumentation and control systems at the Water and Waste Plants and Steam Stations. Instrumentation and Control Systems Management: Oversee and maintain the functionality of Allen-Bradley PLC systems and associated networks. Ensure optimal performance of Yokogawa DCS systems, including troubleshooting and upgrades. Installation and Commissioning: Lead installation and commissioning activities for new instrumentation systems. ABOUT THE ROLE / PURPOSE OF THE JOB

  • Responsible for welding of Mining equipment using flux core method and other welding processes.
  • Responsible for safe operation of welding equipment
  • Cut material and pre-heat using oxy-fuel gas cutting equipment while complying to the gas safety rules.
  • Assist with operation of overhead crane and lifting equipment according to safe working procedures.
  • Complete job specific task and checklist accurately.
  • Visual inspection of working environment ensuring safety standards are adhered to and reporting any unsafe conditions to Superior.

Purpose of Job

To observe operation of automotive machines and verify conformance to specifications and quality standards to meet production targets.

Key Accountabilities

  • Adhere to all safety regulations and work standards.
  • Carry out planned maintenance activities to Diesel equipment and vehicles.
  • Conduct basic risk assessments on task to be performed.
  • Conduct fault-finding and identify equipment failure modes by applying basic asset management principles.
  • Apply the basic reliability engineering principles (MTBF, basic failure trending, understand the
  • link between failures and maintenance strategies).
  • Be able to accurately scope parts and services required to conduct equipment / vehicle maintenance as per end user’s request.
  • Be able to communicate and influence decisions and actions of stakeholders on other departments.
  • Be able to prioritize, track work and follow through on tasks (including administrative) to support turn around times on maintenance activities.
  • Maintain required housekeeping standards at area of work and in workshop.
  • Conduct Safety Management inspections
  • Must be able to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Prepared to do physical and uncomfortable work as stipulated in the job description.
  • Willingness to coach and transfer knowledge from own known environment and experience.
  • Be willing to perform standby duties and work overtime when required (in accordance with legislation)
  • Be willing and capable to act in supervisory position and fulfil supervisory responsibilities as and when required.
  • Be able to manage self, work individually but also as part of a team.
  • Must be a self-driven individual.

Formal Education

  • Matric with Maths, English and Physical Science
  • NQF 4 trade test
  • Section 28 trade tested artisan (Diesel Artisan)
  • Drivers licence – minimum code EB, preferably code EC (Valid PDP will be advantageous)

PURPOSE OF THE JOB

An operator in production provides support in the operation of machines for a specific mine/section/plant within the Sasol Mining environment, to achieve production requirements in a safe manner.

FUNCTIONAL OUTPUTS (Critical tasks)

  • Ensure machine is constantly in a safe operable condition (completion of pre-check list)
  • Demonstrate skill in the operation of machine
  • Execution of daily tasks as per instructions and/or planned schedule
  • Identification of any abnormal conditions and reporting thereof

High Level competencies

  • Operate 1 mining production machine
  • Applying relevant knowledge and skills of machines, tools and equipment to adhere to standards and production targets.
  • Visual inspection of working environment ensuring safety standards are adhered to and reporting any unsafe conditions.
  • Complete assigned tasks accurately and ensure working areas and machinery are clean and in good condition.
  • Function efficiently and effectively as part of a team to work towards achieving team goals.
  • Sensitive on how your actions affect the cost of your team, identify and act on cost saving initiatives.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Qualifications and experience:

  • Grade 12/N3 (or equivalent) with Roof Bolter(RB) or Shuttle Car (SC) or Face Drill (FD) or Load Haul Dump (LHD) or Tractor or Continuous (CM) valid licenses
  • Competent B Certificate (applicable to Roofbolters)
  • Gas testing (5 gases)
  • Able to pass medical
  • Coal Mining Underground experience

Purpose of Job

A Shunter marshals trains in order to safely maneuvers trains from the exchange yard to loading and offloading points at various business units.

Key Accountabilities

  • Ensure safe movement on rail, ensure that the product is compatible (hazardous and non-hazardous)
  • Ensure that the trains do not exceed locomotive capacity, Control movement of rail vehicle by using approved hand signals or radio communication
  • Weigh rail vehicles and perform related administrative activities e.g. logging of rail vehicle numbers on computer system
  • Identify commodity types according to symbolic signs, data sheets or colour coding
  • Confirm correctness of rail vehicle as per TRF (Transnet freight Rail) works order
  • Identify and report any rail related risk and hazards
  • Correct mitigation of impact of risks, safe operation of rail vehicle in non-standard circumstances, perform continuous vacuum break test
  • Assist in performing air break test, protection of rail/road crossings
  • First line maintenance on rail vehicle e.g. check water and fuel level and refill
  • Cleaning of locomotive cab, daily complete locomotive check e.g. gauges, instrument panel etc.
  • Safe operation of train taking into consideration gradient, curves, weather conditions, day/night, roads, environmental conditions etc.
  • Know and understand layout and functioning of locomotives
  • Work in all weather conditions and work shifts
