The Instrument Technologist will be responsible for the installation, maintenance, calibration, troubleshooting, and optimization of instrumentation and control systems at the Water and Waste Plants and Steam Stations. FUNCTIONAL OUTPUTS
Instrumentation and Control Systems Management: Oversee and maintain the functionality of Allen-Bradley PLC systems and associated networks. Manage and configure DeltaV SIS systems for safety and operational efficiency. Ensure optimal performance of Yokogawa DCS systems, including troubleshooting and upgrades. Installation and Commissioning: Lead installation and commissioning activities for new instrumentation systems. Perform control system integration and interconnection to meet operational requirements. A Shunter marshals trains in order to safely maneuvers trains from the exchange yard to loading and offloading points at various business units.
Key Accountabilities
- Ensure safe movement on rail, ensure that the product is compatible (hazardous and non-hazardous)
- Ensure that the trains do not exceed locomotive capacity, Control movement of rail vehicle by using approved hand signals or radio communication
- Weigh rail vehicles and perform related administrative activities e.g. logging of rail vehicle numbers on computer system
- Identify commodity types according to symbolic signs, data sheets or colour coding
- Confirm correctness of rail vehicle as per TRF (Transnet freight Rail) works order
- Identify and report any rail related risk and hazards
- Correct mitigation of impact of risks, safe operation of rail vehicle in non-standard circumstances, perform continuous vacuum break test
- Assist in performing air break test, protection of rail/road crossings
- First line maintenance on rail vehicle e.g. check water and fuel level and refill
- Cleaning of locomotive cab, daily complete locomotive check e.g. gauges, instrument panel etc.
- Safe operation of train taking into consideration gradient, curves, weather conditions, day/night, roads, environmental conditions etc.
- Know and understand layout and functioning of locomotives
- Work in all weather conditions and work shifts
