VACANCY
Kouga Local Municipality is committed to the prescripts of the approved Employment Equity Plan and furthermore invites suitably qualified applicants to submit a detailed application for the following position:
ARTISAN AIDE: ELECTRICAL
REQUIREMENTS:
- Relevant NQF Level qualification as a Trade Tested Electrician;
- 2 Years’ relevant Experience;
- Good communication skills;
- Code C1 Driving License;
- Attention to detail;
- Ability to work under pressure;
- Good supervisory skills;
- Must be able to speak, read and write in at least two of the official languages in Kouga Municipality (Afrikaans, English, and
Xhosa).
SALARY: R223 367.79 – R289 905.47 Per Annum
TASK: 8
DUTIES:
- Implements activities associated with the construction and installations of medium/ low voltage electrical networks;
- Reading and interpreting minor drawings/ work orders detailing layout and specifications;
- Laying cables and positioning supporting structures (poles) and cleaning and tinning of conductors, binding and strapping, stripping of individual conductors;
- Attending to the erection and installation sequences of poles, cross waves, stays, lines, aerial transformers, switchgear, etc;
- Terminating cables, wires etc. to junction boxes, connecting blocks and/ or terminals including soldering, fitting of lugs and harnessing wires;
- Joining LT and HT cables;
- Installing and replacing of new or faulty prepaid and KWH electrical meters to the new customers;
- Performs activities and sequences associated with maintaining the functionality of medium/ low voltage electrical reticulation and lighting systems;
- Controls tasks/ activities associated with controlling General Workers performance, productivity, and discipline within the functionality;
- Monitors the cleaning of worksites, stores equipment and tools and loads materials prior to departure from work site;
- Performs specific activities associated with communications and providing support to line functions.

ARTISAN: ELECTRICIAN
REQUIREMENTS:
- Relevant NQF level 4 qualification and a Trade Tested certificate as an Electrician;
- 3 years relevant experience;
- Code C1 drivers license;
- Attention to detail;
- Good communication skills;
- Good supervisory skills;
- Ability to record information accurately;
- Good Report writing skills;
- Must be assertive and have attention to detail;
- Must be able to speak, read and write in at least two of the official languages in Kouga Municipality (Afrikaans, English, and Xhosa).
SPECIAL CONDITIONS: Required to work in all weather conditions.
Required to work outside normal working hours during emergencies and planned overtime.
Required to do stand-by duties.
SALARY: R334 243.60 – R433 851.91 Per Annum
TASK: 11
DUTIES:
- Provide electrician services;
- Setting out of cable route, supervision of worker and physical doing L.V. single phase and three phase domestic connection, which includes the installing of electrical meter etc;
- Supervise and assist with the laying of electrical cables during upgrading works;
- Carrying out of routine electrical maintenance on distribution kiosk, substation, overhead lines, water and sewerage pump station as well as the upkeep of sub-station yard and Council buildings i.e. repair broken lights etc;
- Oversee subordinate staff;
- Preparing work schedules for minor maintenance work that can be executed by sub-ordinate staff;
- Providing guidance to staff on work performed;
- Perform HT maintenance and repairs under supervision;
- Perform HV/MV switching if found to be competent during faulting finding or under normal maintenance conditions.
