Join our team of innovative Software Engineers and build the next generation service platforms for AWS, EC2 and our customers. These services are key components of the Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2) web service.
Our platform handles a significant load of Internet traffic generated by internal and external customers that build their solutions on EC2. On any given day we use Java, Kotlin, Typescript, Python, Ruby and Go as well as various Native AWS services and Amazon-internal tools. We don’t expect you to be an expert in, or know all these technologies, but we do expect you to have strong programming fundamentals and be excited to learn about these technologies.
Our team invents, designs and builds software that is stable, scalable and performant. We write and support code that is easy to understand with solutions that are pragmatic. We keep a high bar in code reviews to ensure high quality code.

As a member of this team, you will own and contribute to the development of quality designs & solutions, solving complex problems. You are able to operate with limited guidance and take a long term view of your team’s services and how they fit into the broader architecture. The services that your team own are used by many teams and you will have opportunities to work and influence engineers and teams outside of your own team to build out EC2 architecture that supports Amazon scale business needs.

We work on a broad spectrum of projects of different sizes using different architectures, technology stacks, and programming languages (though the bulk of it is Python, JavaScript / TypeScript, and React). Tasks range from backend development, front-end development, and infrastructure as code. We prepare and review designs, identify and mitigate risks, experiment and share ideas, all with the goal to keep innovating on behalf of our customers.
We engage with stakeholders, build prototypes, keep an eye on DevOps and deployments, and do deep dives on root cause analysis when things go wrong.

Build the systems that optimize how EC2 matches requests for Instances with the underlying compute capacity. EC2 Placement is seeking talented engineers to build the online and offline optimization systems for compute workload scheduling, and the customer capabilities to better manage those workloads. Key job responsibilities

A day in the life
As an intern, you will be matched to a manager and a mentor. You will have the opportunity to influence the evolution of Amazon technology and lead mission critical projects early in your career. BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
– Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related fields at time of application
– Although no specific programming language is required – you should be familiar with the syntax of languages such as Java, C/C++, or Python
– Knowledge of Computer Science fundamentals such as object-oriented design, algorithm design, data structures, problem solving and complexity analysis

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
– 2+ years of engineering team management experience
– 5+ years of engineering experience
