Job Purpose

Job Knowledge, Skills and Experience

• Grade 10 (standard 8) qualification
• A certificate in Hygiene/Cleaning / Housekeeping
• A minimum of two (2) years’ experience in the cleaning field
• Knowledge and experience in the handling of cleaning products and chemicals
• Knowledge and experience in operating relevant cleaning equipment and machinery

Job Purpose
Head of Department

The Rotational Head of Department must take a leadership role within the Department of Ophthalmic Sciences for managing, leading and providing direction to a team of academics and support staff. The HoD has the primary responsibility for the realisation of the business strategy in the higher education environment through the delivery of initiatives to deliver efficient and effective processes across the institution. To support the department in pursuit of its academic objectives which include: teaching according to a set syllabus, undertake research, supervise PG research, contribute to curriculum development, as well as the engagement in work-integrated learning and community engagement activities. To ensure programmes meet the regulatory requirements of the HPCSA. In addition to meeting the core academic expectations, the incumbent should manage the department effectively and efficiently, in line with the CPUT policies and procedures including but not limited to (i) academic leadership, (ii) research management; (iii) HR and staff management: (iv) financial management: (v) student management.

Senior Lecturer

The purpose of the job is to lecture at undergraduate and postgraduate students according to set syllabus, to contribute academic leadership in the Department and Faculty. The position will require quality review of the curriculum and implementation, and assessment on programmes offered aligned to policy. The incumbent will ensure the programmes offered meet the Health Professions Council of South Africa requirements, liaise with industry stakeholders, coordinate WIL placements, engage in community service-learning projects, conduct and publish research in the field.

Job Knowledge, Skills and Experience
Minimum requirements: Senior Lecturer

A relevant doctoral qualification in Ophthalmic Sciences.
Independent registration and in good standing with the HPCSA as an Optometrist or Dispensing Optician.
At least four (4) years’ relevant lecturing experience in higher education.
Track record of successful postgraduate supervision
Evidence of appropriate academic and research leadership.
Recommendations:

The 4 years mentioned above must preferably include 2 years’ experience in the Department’s specialised field as well as management experience related to the functions of an HOD (i.e., academic management; curriculum development; quality assurance and accreditation processes; financial and HR management in a department).
Research, publications, and supervision experience commensurate with the level of Lecturer or above.
Minimum Requirements: Head of Department

Job Purpose

The Department of Information Technology (IT) is seeking a candidate for the position of Professor with a specialisation i Computer Science field and research. This role offers an opportunity to join the academic community in IT department dedicated to excellence in teaching, innovative research, and impactful community engagement. The occupant of this position will play a crucial role in advancing the department’s mission and enhancing its reputation both nationally and internationally. As a Professor, the occupant will provide academic leadership in the development and delivery of undergraduate an postgraduate programmes. Further, the occupant will be required to employ innovative teaching methods to engage an inspire students, fostering a stimulating learning environment that encourages critical thinking and problem-solving skills.

In the research capacity role, the occupant will lead cutting-edge projects in Computer Science, aiming to push the boundaries of knowledge and address real-world local challenges. The occupant is expected to secure substantial external funding publish in DHET accredited high-impact journals and conferences, and build interdisciplinary research collaborations within the department, faculty, university and with industry partners. The occupant’s work is required to not only advance the field but also enhance the department’s research profile.

Beyond teaching and research, the occupant will actively participate in academic leadership and management within the department. This includes mentoring early-career academics, contributing to strategic planning, and engaging in police development. Additionally, the occupant will strengthen the department’s connections with industry and the wider community through outreach activities, partnerships, and public engagement initiatives. The occupant’s leadership and expertise will be instrumental in driving the IT department forward and shaping its future direction.

Job Purpose

The successful candidate will teach mathematics and related subjects in Extended Curriculum Programme (ECP) qualifications, including service subjects in other departments and faculties. The successful candidate will also contribute to curriculum development (especially at postgraduate level), and will supervise undergraduate and postgraduate Mathematical Sciences students for their exit-level projects. Job Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • Masters qualification in Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, Financial Mathematics, Biomathematics, or equivalent. If the qualification is in Mathematics, there must be evidence of a strong focus on application in the thesis and/or coursework
  • Additionally, an Advanced Diploma, Bachelors Degree, Postgraduate Diploma, or Bachelor Honours Degree in Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, or a related field
  • Intermediate programming proficiency is required in at least one of the mathematics software or languages used in the Department, namely, Python, MATLAB, or R
  • At least two years’ relevant full-time working experience, of which at least one year must be in a lecturing role at a higher education institution

Key Performance Areas / Principal Accountabilities

The successful candidate will be expected to perform in the following areas:

  • Teach mathematics and related subjects, predominantly in Extended Curriculum Programme (ECP) qualifications
  • Develop reusable learning and teaching materials for the subjects being taught (e.g., lecture notes, tutorials, online content)
  • Perform appropriate academic and administrative duties in the Department
