Desktop Publisher and PowerPoint Designer

The Knowledge Translation Unit (KTU), is a dynamic health systems unit that develops, implements, and evaluates evidence-based clinical guidance for use in primary care in the public health sector. Our work spans South Africa, several sub-Saharan African countries, Brazil, and Indonesia.
We’re looking for a Desktop Publisher and PowerPoint Designer to join our multidisciplinary team in producing high-quality, user-friendly clinical guidance and training materials for healthcare workers across various contexts.
Core Objective
The primary objective of this role is to support the effective communication of clinical guidance and training content by producing visually clear, professionally formatted materials. The Desktop Publisher and PowerPoint Designer will work closely with the senior designer and content teams to ensure all outputs—particularly PowerPoint presentations and print materials, are visually consistent, accessible, and aligned with KTU’s design standards. By enhancing the clarity and usability of educational content, this role contributes directly to KTU’s mission of improving primary healthcare delivery in South Africa and other low- and middle-income countries.
Minimum Requirements:
- Diploma or higher qualification in Graphic Design, Desktop Publishing, or a related field
Skills:
- Microsoft PowerPoint and other MS Word
- Adobe Creative Cloud, especially InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow established design systems
Attributes:

- Someone comfortable working under direction in a collaborative, mission-driven environment
- Experience in public health or nonprofit communication design (advantageous, but not essential)

- Follow design briefs provided by a senior designer

and training materials - Ensure consistency of branding and visual language across materials

Training Administrator

The Knowledge Translation Unit (KTU) is a health systems research unit in Cape Town that develops, implements and evaluates clinical guidance for primary care public health sector use. We currently work in South Africa, several other sub- Saharan African countries, Brazil and Indonesia, making an impact from patient to clinician, to policy maker and government.
Core Objective
The main purpose of this position is to organise and co-ordinate training events. This includes communicating with clients, managing budgets, booking training venues/catering/accommodation, preparing for and hosting the training events, keeping training records and evaluations, and reporting.
Minimum Requirements:
- BA or BCom degree or equivalent
- A minimum of 5 years’ experience as an administrator or similar role.
- Valid code 8 driver’s license with own reliable vehicle
Skills:
- Competence in Microsoft office suite with advanced Excel skills advantageous.
- Organised and administratively strong, experience with project management apps (e.g. MS Teams).
- Competence in digital learning technologies (e.g., webinars, video conferencing, eLearning, Learning
Management Systems).

Responsibilities:
- Coordinate all aspects of training events, including booking venues and arranging catering, flights, and
accommodation. - Monitor the training budget and ensure all expenses are properly accounted for.
- Process payments timeously and accurately in collaboration with the finance team.
- Arrange travel and logistics for trainers.
- Communicate with clients and trainees to ensure they have all the necessary information prior to the
training event. - Assist with the preparation of training materials, including printing and collating handouts and other
materials. - Work closely with trainers to ensure they have everything required for successful delivery of training
- Host in-person training sessions, including setting up venues and managing attendance registers.
- Handle any issues or challenges that arise during training events, ensuring prompt and effective resolution
- Maintain accurate records of all training events, including attendance, feedback, and evaluations..
- Provide regular reports to management on the outcomes of training events and any issues encountered.
- Continuously evaluate the effectiveness of training events and make recommendations for improvements.
- Create and Host webinars: coordinate presenters, promote the sessions, and ensure high-quality delivery.
- Online training: Monitor online training attendance, obtain list from clients for online course access.
- Arrange for speakers and presenters for conferences, training sessions and webinars.
- Provide User administration support, online, webinars and in person training.
- Provide administrative support to the Learning and Development team.

SEMI-SKILLED ASSISTANT (ELECTRICAL)

The Semi-Skilled Assistant will report to the Technical Inspector in the Electrical discipline with accountability to the Area
Maintenance Manager, to assist the Technical Inspector in fulfilling his/her function by performing specific or general duties of an
unskilled or semi-skilled nature in the Electrical field.
In addition, the individual will also be required to undertake minor Electrical repairs/fixes assigned by the Technical Inspector as
well as to assist out tasked contractors and handypersons in the other campus with access and logistics where direct supervision
is not required.
Requirements:
- Minimum grade 12 or equivalent qualifications NQF 4
- 2 years relevant experience in the maintenance department after completing grade 12
- Ability to maintain an acceptable attendance record and punctuality
- Mentally fit, experiencing no difficulty with walking, hearing, eyesight, climbing steps or entering confined spaces with
no fear to heights - Ability to climb into ceiling spaces and heights
- Code 8 driver’s licence
Responsibilities:
- Organize materials/tools to assist Technical Inspector or out-tasked contractors with completion of routine or
emergency notifications. - Repair or fixes to specific building services i.e. replacing fluorescent tubes, lamps, ballasts, lamp holders, etc. when
instructed by Technical Inspectors according to established - Assist Technical Inspectors with inspections and conditions audits.
- Monitor access of out-tasked contractors to sub-stations, plant rooms, etc.
- Conduct plant inspections.
- Act as liaison between contractors, Technical Inspectors/ Leaders and UCT community.
- Assist with delivery and receipt of on-site spares and materials and organizing thereof.
- Provide updates and feedback to the Technical Inspector regarding job/work task updates.
- Request client feedback on behalf of the Technical Inspector for debriefing purposes
- Assist out-tasked contractors with access to plant rooms and pump stations.
- Assist with delivery and receipt of onsite spares and materials.
- Act as liaison between the Technical Inspector and the university community
- Cleaning of maintenance workshops, depots and plant rooms
- Clean and maintain vehicles, equipment and tools
- Perform any other duties, which may arise
- Store equipment or appliances for future reuse and maintain an inventory
- Ensure that compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act is met
- The Technical Inspector is kept well informed of any work in progress within the Electrical discipline
The annual cost of employment, including benefits, is between R265 286 to R312 098

RESEARCH COORDINATOR
The MRC Centre for Medical Mycology at the University of Exeter (MRC CMM) is one of the largest centers studying
medically important fungi in the world and is the largest specialist research unit at the University of Exeter (UoE).
The MRC CMM aims to facilitate research and training, particularly in those areas of the world where fungal
infections cause a huge burden on human health. To achieve this, the MRC CMM has established a partnership
with the University of Cape Town (UCT) to maintain a jointly run unit in medical mycology, the AFRICA CMM Unit
for Medical Mycology Research that is based within the Institute of Infectious Disease and Molecular Medicine at
UCT. To help achieve the goals of the AFRICA Unit, we are looking for a dynamic and experienced Research
Coordinator, based at UCT, who will ensure delivery of the Unit’s aims.

TECHNICAL SPECIALIST: WINDOWS ENVIRONMENT
We are looking for a Microsoft specialist who is interested in working on a large-scale Microsoft environment in
the Academic sector in Southern Africa. The University of Cape Town seeks to appoint a Technical Specialist to
join its Core Infrastructure team in the Enterprise Infrastructure Services division. You will provide specialized
technical support and be responsible for administering, developing and implementing the Microsoft based
business-critical university enterprise ICT systems, platforms and AD directory services. You should also be
able to work independently and display initiative in a fast-paced environment where your accomplishments
lead directly to the success of your team.
Responsibilities:
- Implementation, configuration, maintenance, and support of Windows-based infrastructure and
computing platforms at a specialist administration level:
Required experience and qualifications:
- A qualification at NQF level 7 in a relevant discipline such as Computer Science or Information Systems.
- 7 years’ experience in enterprise ICT applications and infrastructure of which, at least 5 years must be
relevant current technical hands-on experience. - Proven skill and experience in Windows Server & Active Directory 2016/2019
- Experience in upgrading Active Directory Forest levels to meet compliance.
- Proven operating system knowledge of all Microsoft Windows Server platforms including clustering
techniques. - Proven task automation, disaster recovery, including desired state configuration as provided by
PowerShell. - Proficient in defining and managing GPO (Group Policy Objects).
- Knowledge of the administration and management of storage subsystems specific to the Microsoft
Windows server landscape. - Experience in performing research, evaluation, and implementing new technologies and systems.
- Experience in deploying, optimizing, and administering systems and applications on virtualized
platforms such as VMware and Hyper-V. - Working knowledge and experience in deploying Windows back-end architecture in public environments
(Azure or AWS) and the ability to deploy and administer IAAS/PAAS / SAAS cloud environments. - Solid knowledge of network infrastructure services e.g. DNS, DHCP, and various networking protocols.
- Working knowledge of Single Sign-On (SSO) federated technologies such as SimpleSamlPhP, ADFS, and
Azure AD. - Working knowledge of application and operating system patching and remote configuration mechanisms
such as SCCM, SCOM. - Experience in implementing baseline security standards, specifically Centre for Internet Se
