Purpose

  • To enhance student wellbeing and thereby contribute to retention and throughput by providing holistic and agile therapeutic and mental health services, to ensure students achieve optimal well-being and academic success.
  • To contribute to the enhancement of the student experience and university life for students, in line with the University of Fort Hare strategic priorities and objectives.
  • To contribute to the development of graduates attributed through the provision of graduate training programmes and supervision of intern psychologists.

Minimum Requirements and Competencies:

  • Master’s degree in Counselling or Clinical psychology
  • 3 years’ work experience as a registered Counselling or Clinical Psychologist
  • 1 year experience working in Higher Education Sector
  • Drivers license
  • Knowledge of and compliance with HPCSA regulations and Ethical guidelines
  • Communication and Interpersonal skills
  • Psychotherapeutic and diagnostic skills
  • Crisis Management skills
  • Student mental health and wellbeing
  • Training, facilitation and coordination
  • Project management skills
  • Supervision skills
  • Problem Solving/Decision-making/Analytical thinking
  • Planning & organization / time management

Responsibilities

  • Provision of Individual Psychotherapy and counselling to UFH students
  • Individual and Group interventions (Residence Talk programme)
  • Provision of trauma debriefing and crisis interventions in response to traumatic incidents and emergencies.
  •  Provision of individual or group supervision to intern psychologists
  • Supervision of Intern Psychologists’ Community interventions
  • Monitoring and evaluating Intern Psychologists
  • Training for Student cohorts e.g. Wellness Leaders and Mentors, Social Work
  • Submit monthly progress and statistics reports
  • Multicampus provision of mental health and wellness programmes

Postdoctoral position in UNESCO ‘Oliver Tambo’ Chair of Human Rights, Faculty of Law (2 Posts)
A fulltime postdoctoral position is available in the UNESCO ‘Oliver Tambo’ Chair of Human Rights, Faculty of Law at the University of Fort Hare.
Commencement date: ASAP
Location: Alice or East London Campus
Duration: 1 year (renewable on satisfactory progress)

Award criteria:

  • Applicants should have an LLD/PhD in related area.
  • Applicants should have completed their doctoral degree within the last five years.
  • Preference will be given to South African Citizens or holder of a SA Permanent Residence, women and previously disadvantaged groups.
  • Excellent academic record with evidence of the ability to publish research results.

The successful candidate will be required to:

  • Conduct innovative research on Human Rights Law, Public International Law, SADC community Law, harmonisation of laws, regional integration, community law, African Union Law.
  • Publish a minimum of 2 peer-reviewed research articles per annum in DHET accredited journals.
  • Present research at local conferences.

Value of the fellowship:

  • R300 000 per annum

Postdoctoral Research Fellowship: Mathematics Education

Faculty of Education
A full-time postdoctoral position is available in Mathematics Education with reference to mathematics teacher preparation and intervention programmes with the particular focus on teaching efficacy within a rural education context. The full-time postdoctoral position is available in the Department of Science, Mathematics Education and Environmental Studies, Faculty of Education, at the University of Fort Hare (UFH), Alice Campus, South Africa. The fellowship will enable an outstanding doctoral graduate to obtain experience of research and innovation at a higher education institution under the mentorship of established researchers. The fellowship is awarded on a competitive basis, considering the applicant’s academic achievements, publication outputs and research potential, as well as the relevance of prior experience and expertise. The fellowship is available for a period of one-year, renewable subject to satisfactory performance.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

  • Open to South Africans and foreign nationals for full-time research at the University of Fort Hare.
  • Preference is given to South African citizens and permanent residents
  • Young and emerging scholars
  • Graduated with a PhD degree in a relevant discipline within the last five years
  • Successful applicants may not hold full-time salaried employment during the fellowship
  • Successful applicants must be able to relocate to the UFH for the duration of the fellowship.

THE SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE WILL BE REQUIRED TO:

  • Conduct innovative research in mathematics education on efficacy and democratic citizenship in relation to the teaching and learning practices of mathematics in South African schools.
  • Author/co-author at least 2 units per year in the form of DHET– accredited scholarly journal articles or books/chapters in books.
  • The successful candidate will be required to conduct innovative research and obtain evidenced-based empirical data on efficacy and democratic citizenship in relation to the teaching and learning practices of mathematics in South African schools.
  • The postdoctoral research fellow shall reside in Alice to access facilities at UFH Alice Campus and participate in relevant activities of the School of Postgraduate Studies.

R 300,000 annual fellowship
