Job Primary Purpose
The primary role of this position is to provide strategic leadership to the Faculty of Economics, Development and Business Sciences. The Dean will provide intellectual and strategic leadership of the faculty and will foster innovation and promote scholarship of teaching and learning, research and innovation, and engagement. The term of office for the Dean will be five years and a Dean may serve a maximum of two terms. The Dean must be appointable at Professor level in one of the disciplines within Economics, Development and Business Sciences and will hold a professorial post in the appropriate department.

- The provision of strategic leadership to the Faculty and the University.
- The management and optimization of all Faculty functions, processes and procedures.
- The management, coaching and mentoring of staff.

Minimum Requirements:
- A Doctoral qualification in a relevant discipline.
- Registration with professional bodies in a relevant discipline.
- At least 15 years’ experience as an educator and researcher in Higher Education with at least 5 years’ experience in a leadership position such as Head of Department or School, Deputy Dean or equivalent.
- A substantial record of postgraduate supervision at Master’s and Doctoral levels, with some of these students publishing their research.
- Active participation in and leadership of learned societies.
- Extensive application of disciplinary knowledge and skills for the benefit of the external community.
- A record of leadership in research, teaching, learning, and engagement.
- Experience with DHET, HEQC, CHE accreditation, SAQA registration, and quality assurance processes.

The applicant should be proficient in teaching all the facets of the Life Skills subject in the Foundation Phase. These include:
Music for the Foundation Phase
Ability to play at least three instruments (including voice) and basic theoretical knowledge of music.
Drama for the Foundation Phase
Ability to teach drama at Foundation Phase level, including genres such as role play, basic acting, mime, recitation, choral work, etc. Theoretical knowledge, including the elements of drama.
Creative moment (Dance) for the Foundation Phase
Know the elements of choreography and dance, particularly improvisation and creative movement.
Physical Education for the Foundation Phase
Knowledge of fundamental skills and the teaching thereof, including gross motor (locomotor and non-locomotor), stability, and manipulation. Skills in basic sports codes such as athletics, cricket, soccer, netball, tennis, etc.
Social sciences
Ability to teach fundamental skills in History and Geography.
Natural Sciences
Knowledge of fundamental skills in teaching natural and physical sciences.

- Candidate who are enrolled for a PhD in Economics will have an advantage.

Technical Officer in Culinary Arts

Technical Officer in Culinary Arts
Organisational Unit

Job Primary Purpose
The primary purpose of the role is to assist the Culinary Studies and Nutrition Lecturer to administer practical classes in Hospitality. The incumbent will also assist the lecturer in providing instructional lectures in simulated kitchens, as well as lead hands-on instruction sessions through a practical training program.
Key Performance Areas:
- Provision of technical support for kitchen practical training.
- Supervision, enforcing student discipline and transferring of skills in the training kitchen.
- Maintaining current and accurate records for all culinary practical recipes.
- Planning and execution of practical assessments where applicable.
- Engagement through which knowledge and skills are used to benefit the culinary profession/discipline and the community.
Minimum Requirements:
- M+3 year Hospitality qualification in Culinary Arts/Professional Cookery or any Culinary related qualification.
- Specialised Chef/Culinary knowledge.
- At least five (5) years’ experience as a Chef/Culinary Manager, of which three years’ (3) experience should be in a training kitchen as an instructor in an institution of higher learning.
- Some experience in mentoring of students and facilitation of practical classes in training kitchens.
Key Competencies
- A high degree of technical ability to relay information in a manner that provides a positive learning experience and instils a passion for the chefs’ profession.
- Knowledge and technical skills in the form of mastery of cooking and banking principles and techniques.
- An appreciation of modern methods of cooking and theories of teaching and learning in Higher Education and some skills as a chefs instructor.
- Demonstrated competency in a range of techniques and procedures associated with scientific practical classes.
- Training of students, enforcing discipline and transferring of skills.
- Knowledge and experience of hybrid models of teaching and learning (face-to-face and online).
