Mentor (English First Additional Language)

POST: Mentor (English First Additional Language)

SALARY: R127 200.00

DURATION: October to 31 December 2025

CENTRE: Pretoria Campus

Ref: TNC/PC/25 – 09/2

Requirements: An appropriate three (03) years Degree/National Diploma or equivalent REQV13 qualification with major in English/Language Practice/Linguistic. A Teachers qualification. SACE registration certificate. In-depth knowledge of the subject. Excellent communication in English (written and verbal), organizing, planning and administration skills. 

Ability to plan and deliver lessons. Monitor students’ performance and provide critical feedback in an objective and professional manner. Ability to relate to students in a professional manner and to promote a conducive teaching and learning environment. Computer literacy. Moderator and Assessor Certificate will be an added advantage.

Duties: Ability to teach English FAL across all the levels. Compile the POA, POE and Subjects as mandated by DHET Curriculum Instructions and Teaching and Learning

Plan Framework. Assist with recruitment, registration, and induction of students. Facilitate general academic and career development of students. Prepare lesson plans and lecture students in compliance with the College Annual Academic Plan, the Campus time- table and the College Quality Management System. Assess students, maintain assessment records, and capture marks electronically in compliance with the College’s policies and procedures. 

Create a conducive classroom environment and ensure efficient classroom management and discipline of students is always maintained. Report to the Senior Lecturer and liaise with the Student Support Officers in providing support interventions to students. 

Distribute textbooks and student packs to students and maintain the necessary records. Manage and monitor students’ attendance. Invigilate internal and external examinations. Participate in student extra- curricular activities and promote the holistic development. Embrace the use of the Learning Management System (LMS).

Scribes (Students with Special Needs in Education) – (3 Posts)

SALARY: R255,30 per session

DURATION: October 2025 to 31 December 2025

CENTRE: Soshanguve South Campus

Ref: TNC/SSC/25 – 09/3

Requirements: In order to be considered to serve as a scriber, the applicant must have:

At least Matric certificate plus an appropriate M+3 Qualification (National diploma/ Bachelor’s Degree) or a professional therapist. Recognised Teaching Qualification, Computer Literacy in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) SACE registration, Assessor/Moderator qualification will be an added advantage, Knowledge of Legislation governing the sector. Extensive experience as an educator in school/college with special needs in education; be proficient in spelling with neat hand writing; be able to use a calculator; be able to read clearly and audibly.

N.B: Retired professional teachers/ therapists who meet the above requirements can also apply for these contract positions.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF SCRIBES AND READERS

Those appointed as scribes for ICASS tasks and National Examinations will be required to:

1. Read the questions for the candidate and write answers only as per the dictation of the examinee and the scribe shall not paraphrase, translate, add emphasis or embellish the dictation in any manner, i.e., the scribe shall only transcribe what is dictated to him/her by the examinee.

2. Be punctual, careful and should act in the exam as directed by the candidate without wasting time of the candidate.

3. Not make any claim or accept any money or money’s worth from the candidate. The compensation to Scribe shall be paid by the Tshwane North TVET College.

4. Not put the candidate in emotional or stressful situation during the period of examination.

5. Maintain distance with candidate prior and after the exam and not to exploit the candidate in any manner.

6. Follow all instructions, guidelines, directions etc. of the Tshwane North TVET College in true letter and spirit. Failure to follow the above may impact the result/enrollment of the candidate apart from being booked under use of unfair means in examination.

Requirements: In order to be considered to serve as a peer tutor, the applicant must have:

NCV Programmes: 3 (three) Peer Tutors

The student MUST have achieved or obtained a minimum of 70% in the subject that they are interested in for mentoring/tutoring.

N.B:

· This opportunity is ONLY open or available to students who have studied the National Certificate (Vocational) in Transport & Logistics and Office Administration.

· The applicants MUST not have been found guilty of any misconduct and must display good behavior and good leadership.

· The student MUST NOT have participated in previous similar programme.

· MUST be willing to work extra hours and with students with special needs in education.

NATED/REPORT 191 Programmes: 1 (One) Peer Tutor

The student MUST have achieved or obtained a minimum of 70% in the subject that they are interested in for mentoring/tutoring.

N.B: This opportunity is ONLY open or available to students who have studied the following programmes and subjects:

· Management Assistant/Public Relations: Information Processing N5 & Computer Practice N5.

· Public Management: Municipal Administration N5. The applicants MUST not have been found guilty of any misconduct and must display good behavior and good leadership.

· The student MUST NOT have participated in previous similar programme.

· MUST be willing to work extra hours and with students with special needs in education.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF PEER TUTORS

1. A peer tutor is responsible for providing educational assistance to students, developing comprehensive learning strategies to address their studying challenges, and assisting them in college work.

2. Peer tutors arrange convenient tutoring schedules, recording their progress, and evaluating their skills with strict adherence to the course content and learning curriculum.

3. They also observe the students’ learning approach and behaviors to identify areas of improvement, as well as to increase their focus and engagement.

4. A peer tutor must have excellent knowledge of the specific subject matter to administer the best learning experience.

5. Combine discipline plan with effective measures and various study plans to increase concentration, participation, and progress student accountability.

6. Facilitate tutorials in English for a variety of tasks at different levels.
