The Office of the Pension Funds Adjudicator (OPFA) is established in terms of section 30B of the Pension Funds Act, 24 of 1956, to dispose of pension fund complaints lodged in terms of the Act in a procedurally fair, economical, and expeditious manner.
Job Description
The Office of the Pension Funds Adjudicator (OPFA) is seeking to appoint an individual with strong analytical ability, exceptional attention to detail, and a deep understanding of pensions law. The ideal candidate must be results-driven, able to work accurately under pressure, and committed to producing legally sound determinations within deadlines. This role requires a high level of professionalism, strong written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to operate independently while also providing support and guidance to junior staff. A passion for service excellence, integrity, teamwork, and continuous improvement is essential.
Responsibilities:
- Ensure that determinations are properly drafted for submission.
- Ensure that all aspects of a complaint have been investigated.
- Produce factually and legally accurate drafts.
- Identify all legal principles accurately and substantiate all conclusions.
- Prepare and resubmit drafts timeously.
- Prepare bundles for submission to the Financial Services Tribunal.
- Attend hearings at the Financial Services Tribunal where necessary.
- Respond to all queries received via calls, walk- ins or emails.
- Report on complaints statistics.
- Draft and finalise Out of Jurisdiction and settlements within specified time periods.
- Assist and guide other team members as and when required.
- Contribute to knowledge creation in pensions law by conducting research, writing articles and speaking at public forums.

Job Requirements
Qualifications and Experience:
- A Bachelor of Laws Degree (LLB).
- Admitted Legal Practitioner.
- 6-7 Years experience in litigation or administrative law.
- Knowledge and understanding of financial sector legislation, especially in relation to retirement funds.
- Attention to detail, ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
- Advanced computer skills include Microsoft Excel, Power Point presentation and a high level of written and verbal communication.
- The ability to analyse data and arrive at a sound legal outcome.

Job Description
The Office of the Pension Funds Adjudicator (OPFA) is seeking to appoint an individual who is professional, client-focused, and able to create a positive first impression for all visitors and callers. The ideal candidate must have excellent communication skills, strong customer service orientation, and the ability to remain calm, friendly, and efficient in a fast-paced environment. The role requires someone who is organised, attentive to detail, able to multitask, and committed to delivering exceptional service at all times. A high level of integrity, teamwork, and dedication to operational excellence is essential.
Responsibilities:
- Meet and greet all walk-in clients professionally and courteously.
- Assess client needs and direct them to the appropriate staff member or department.
- Maintain a clean, organised, and presentable reception area at all times.
- Log and escalate any faults relating to equipment, facilities, or reception infrastructure.
- Notify the Line Manager immediately of any client-related incidents or potential security concerns.
- Provide first-level support by understanding and redirecting customer queries.
- Provide general administrative support to internal staff when required.
- Answer all incoming calls timeously and professionally.
- Screen, route, and record telephone calls, including accurate message-taking.
- Document all incoming calls for statistical reporting and ensure no calls are dropped.
- Capture and process callback requests accurately for successful follow-up.
- Submit monthly call statistics to the Line Manager.
- Deal with incoming emails to the OPFA’s mail inbox

Job Requirements
- Matric (Grade 12).
- 2 years’ experience in a customer service environment.
- Reception or switchboard experience will be an added advantage.
- Knowledge of correspondence handling, switchboard operations, and general administration.
- Microsoft Office proficiency with strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to deal professionally with clients, suppliers, and staff members.
- Strong organisational ability, attention to detail, and the ability to work under pressure.
