Payroll Administrator

Job Description

Payroll Administrators are responsible for managing employee payroll activities, ensuring the timely and accurate processing of paychecks.

Area of Responsibility

  • Checking the number of hours employees have worked, calculating wages and salaries
  • Issuing employees’ salaries via electronic transfer
  • Collaborating with the Human Resources Department to maintain employee data, calculating pay raises, shift payments and overtime compensation.
  • Issuing tax forms and related documentation and assisting employees to complete them
  • Deducting tax and insurance payments
  • Resolving issues employees have with time sheets, payslips and other payroll matters.
  • Changing employee bank records when necessary to process payments accurately, and initiating direct deposits

Key Performance Areas

  • The primary function of payroll is to ensure that employees are paid accurately for their work.
  • This includes calculating:
  • Salaries
  • Wages
  • Bonuses
  • Deductions for taxes & Benefits
  • Record keeping – Payroll involves maintaining detailed records of employees.

Education, Qualifications and Experience

  • Minimum-Matric (Grade 12) Certificate, a relevant certificate or Diploma in payroll, HR or Finance
  • Highly experienced in Sage 300, Advanced Excel and MS Office confidentiality.
  • 2-3 years of working experience within a payroll and employee benefits environment
  • Excellent communication skills in English.
  • Problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent record-keeping skills.

Reporting

Reports directly to Payroll Supervisor.

Skills Development Facilitator

Job Description

West Wits Mining is seeking a Skills Development Facilitator to join our mining team. The Skills Development Facilitator must be registered with the Mining Qualifications Authority (MQA) and meet the competency guidelines for Skills Development Facilitators. The Skills Development Facilitator’s role will be to develop the annual Workplace Skills Plan, submit it to the MQA, and implement it.

The Skills Development Facilitator will also be responsible for designing a training quality assurance system; compiling the Annual Training Reports (ATR) in relation to the Work Skills Programme (WSP); and submitting to the Department of Mineral Petroleum & Resources (DMPR), Mining Qualifications Authority (MQA) and the Department of Labour (DOL).

Area of Responsibility

  • Develop, implement, and maintain the company’s Workplace Skills Plan and Annual Training Report in line with MQA requirements.
  • Facilitate skills audits to identify training and development needs across departments.
  • Liaise with the MQA and other relevant SETAs to ensure compliance with skills development regulations.
  • Coordinate and monitor learnerships, internships, apprenticeships, and bursary programmes.
  • Ensure that training providers are accredited and aligned with MQA and NQF standards.
  • Manage grant applications, submissions, and reporting processes.
  • Support managers and supervisors in identifying and addressing training gaps.
  • Maintain accurate training records and compile monthly, quarterly, and annual training reports.
  • Drive initiatives to enhance employee development, transformation, and succession planning in line with BBBEE and the Skills Development Act.
  • Conduct awareness sessions on skills development, compliance, and best practices to facilitate the skills development process and to act as the contact person between the MQA and West Wits MLI.
  • Once appointed, the candidate should be able to access the mandatory grant, ensure that West Wits MLI makes timely submissions of the WSP and ATR, apply for the grant at the MQA promptly, and adhere to the training timelines stipulated in the WSP.

Education, Qualifications and Experience

  • Registered Skills Development Facilitator with the Mining Qualifications Authority (MQA) — proof of registration required.
  • National Diploma or Degree in Human Resources Management, Education, Training, and Development, or related field.
  • Minimum of 3–5 years’ experience as an SDF within the mining or heavy industrial environment.
  • Strong knowledge of MQA processes, Skills Development Act, Employment Equity Act, BBBEE legislation, and related frameworks.
  • Excellent communication, reporting, and coordination skills.
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite and SETA online systems (e.g., MQA MIS).
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams.

Advantages

  • ETDP or Assessor/Moderator certification.
  • Experience with ISO 45001 / HSE-related training integration in mining.
  • Exposure to community skills development or SLP projects.
