The role provides strategic oversight to ensure the programme remains innovative, industry-relevant, academically rigorous, and aligned with institutional quality and regulatory standards.

This position serves as a thought leader, mentor, and academic champion, driving curriculum excellence, student success, impactful teaching and learning strategies, and meaningful stakeholder engagement. You will influence the full lifecycle of the programme  from design, development, and delivery, to review, enhancement, and continuous improvement.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Programme Leadership & Strategy

  • Provide visionary leadership aligned to the institution’s mission and academic strategy.
  • Define and maintain a strong programme identity, philosophy, and market positioning.
  • Lead the rollout, implementation, and growth of new and existing programmes.
  • Ensure academic quality, compliance, and governance across all programme activities.

  • Analyse student throughput, retention, success, articulation, and dropout trends and implement appropriate interventions.
  • Collaborate with academic services, support, and leadership teams to enhance student experience and performance.

Programme Planning & Academic Administration

  • Oversee onboarding and academic induction of programme staff.
  • Drive impactful student orientation and ongoing academic support initiatives.
  • Contribute to programme budget planning and resource allocation.
  • Support programme marketing, positioning, and value-proposition initiatives.
  • Oversee academic staffing needs for curriculum development, teaching, supervision, and assessment.
  • Ensure accuracy and quality of programme information across internal and external platforms.

Teaching, Learning & Student Success

  • Lead innovative teaching and learning approaches that promote student engagement.
  • Facilitate academic webinars, masterclasses, and thought leadership forums where required.
  • Oversee high-quality assessment practices including development, moderation, and grading.
  • Supervise postgraduate students and cultivate a strong culture of academic excellence.
  • Strengthen academic integrity, inclusivity, and continuous teaching and learning enhancement.

Programme Intelligence, Governance & Quality Assurance

  • Drive a data-informed culture of academic performance management and improvement.
  • Ensure adherence to institutional policies, SOPs, and regulatory frameworks.
  • Monitor and respond to regulatory conditions and recommendations.
  • Submit high-quality programme performance reports and strategic recommendations.
  • Lead programme and module reviews, re-alignment, and improvement initiatives.
  • Oversee WIL (Work-Integrated Learning) components (where applicable).

Stakeholder & Industry Engagement

  • Build and maintain relationships with academic, industry, alumni, and professional networks.
  • Promote opportunities for student employability, internships, and industry collaboration.
  • Collaborate with the Career Centre to provide programme-specific career advisory support.
  • Represent the programme at institutional committees, events, audits, and accreditation processes.

Community and Research Engagement

  • Promote and support community engagement activities aligned to programme focus areas.
  • Encourage faculty and student involvement in research, innovation, and knowledge-sharing initiatives.

Institutional Contribution & Leadership

  • Participate actively in institutional academic committees, events, and strategic initiatives.
  • Execute additional responsibilities or leadership tasks assigned by Faculty leadership.
Minimum requirements

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

Minimum Requirements

  • Master’s Degree in Information Technology / Business Analysis / Information Systems or related field (NQF Level 9 preferred).
  • Minimum 3–5 years’ experience in Higher Education teaching and/or academic management.

Preferred/Advantageous

  • Experience in programme leadership and academic quality management.
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience with Learning Management System (LMS) administration/coordination.
  • Strong HE Academic Management background within an IT or Business Analysis environment.

CORE FUNCTIONS INCLUDE:

1.) Management of staff:

  • Ensure that the department is fully staffed and that the Team Leader and Co-ordinators have the relevant skills to perform their duties adequately

•             Ensure new staff undergo induction/ orientation and are familiar with requirements and expected levels of performance

•             Ensure that the Team Leader conducts marker and moderator training on navigating MancosaConnect;

•             Ensure that the Co-ordinators prepare content for the Student Induction training

•             Drive a culture of life-long learning and ensure all staff continually update their knowledge, skills, qualifications and experience

•             Manage and monitor performance statistics to ensure that all staff perform at the expected levels and that the department delivers on departmental objectives

3.) Planning & workflow:

Undertake the planning and preparation process of all assessment related functions to ensure that the department has capacity for the expected workload per semester in alignment with MANCOSA’s strategic goals. This includes:

•             Obtaining the assessment due dates per programme and module from the Institutional Planning Department

•             Developing an annual Assessment calendar for the department and ensuring that the necessary resources are available (computers laptops, printers and printing resources, staffing, student portals and MIS)

•             Overseeing the completion and verification of the ESS (OSA System Schedule) Timetable and Chief Invigilator Report (OSA Support Schedule) to ensure completeness and accuracy of information.

•             Submit the approved ESS Timetable to the IT Service Provider for upload onto the student management information system

•             Receiving the assessment tracker from Institutional Planning

•             Oversee mechanisms to assure the integrity and security of assessment functions

4.) Reporting:

  • Ensure that all relevant stakeholders are informed of the progress/ status of all assessments
  • Reports generated are handed over to the respective (governance) department
  • Report on daily assessment stats to relevant stakeholders (relevant departmental managers and Directors)
  • Request and Receive Audit Trail Results from the IT Service Provider;
  • Finalise all results for AVC board ratification;
  • Collation and reporting of online summative assessment statistics;
  • Request and Receive AVC Reports for Re-registration and Debtors.

5.) Data security:

Ensuring that data security relating to Assessments meets high standards. Upholding and promoting the safety and security of the physical and intellectual property of the Assessments Department at all times (e.g. file all transcripts, protect scripts, ensure all doors in the Assessments Department are locked at all times, and only authorized personnel are allowed access).

Minimum requirements

Essential qualification:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Commerce, Supply Chain, Business Management or HR

Essential experience:

  • 3 Years’ experience as a Supervisor/ Team Leader within a higher education institution or in an administrative environment
  • Essential Job Related Knowledge, Skills and Behaviour:
