Interim Vice-Chancellor and Principal

EXPRESSION OF INTEREST TO ACT IN THE FOLLOWING POSITION:
The Office of the Vice-Chancellor and Principal invites expressions of interest from interested
suitably qualified University staff and the public to occupy the following position on a monthto-month basis:-

  • Interim Vice-Chancellor and Principal

Interested staff and external applicants should forward a self-evaluation portfolio against the

STUDENT ASSISTANTS (Tutors)(x300)

The Teaching and Learning Development Centre (TLDC) invites applications from dedicated and
academically performing students to serve as Peer Assisted Learning Student Assistants in 2026. The PAL
programme aims to enhance student learning, improve retention, and promote collaborative academic
engagement across faculties.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate structured peer learning sessions under the guidance of academic staff.
  • Support students in understanding course material and developing effective study habits.
  • Assist lecturers and PAL Champions in monitoring attendance and engagement.
  • Provide feedback on student participation and academic challenges identified during sessions.
  • Maintain accurate attendance records and submit reports as required.
  • Promote an inclusive and supportive learning environment.

Minimum requirements:

  • Applicants must be registered full-time students or recent graduates of Mangosuthu University of
    Technology.
  • Must have passed the module(s) for which tutoring support will be provided.
  • A minimum average of 65% in the module applied for.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Commitment to academic excellence and student success.

Salary and contract terms:
Stipend: (based on qualifications and hours allocated per module)
Contract Duration: March 2026 – December 2026

  • Interested students should consult their Departmental Tutor Coordinators in their respective faculties
    to confirm the availability of tutoring opportunities and module needs.
  • Applications must include:
  • Full CV and Certified copies of supporting documents
  • An academic record (latest results)
  • A brief motivational letter (maximum 300 words)
  • Proof of account and SARS statement
  • Once appointed, all completed C3 forms and agreement forms must be submitted to the TLDC C3
    Office for capturing.

WRITING CENTRE ASSISTANTS (x6)

Key Performance Areas:

  • Consult with students on academic writing.
  • Facilitate workshops.
  • Assist with marketing the writing centre.
  • Assist with research projects.
  • Participate in collaborative activities or partnerships.

Requirements:

  • Must be a student at MUT or must have worked at MUT in the past year
  • Have 6 months or more of teaching or tutoring experience.
  • Possess strong writing abilitiesfor academic/creative/professional or research
    purposes (2- 3 pages of OWN writing examples must be submitted)

Recommendations:

  • Enrolled in a post-graduate Programme/ Advance Diploma (proof ofregistration must
    be attached) or in possession of Master’s Degree
  • Experience with research (including attendance of conferences)

NB: In addition to attachments stated below, applicants MUST attach SINGLE SELF
AUTHORED writing samples of 2-3 pages (i.e., creative writing, parts of research
proposal/dissertation/paper/report, link to published research article). Failure to attach
the writing samples will result in the application not being considered.
