  1. PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
  • Main role of the Control Room Operator is the effective operation of the shaft control room during a shift. The Control Room Operator is a shift role responsible for the effective operation and control shaft conditions by monitoring the control systems and to ensure all variables remain within the prescribed limits during a shift.
  1. WORK OF ROLE
  • Coordinating Control Room operations
  • Effective belt utilisation
  • Effective control of shaft systems including underground and surface conveying systems
  • Effective execution of control room operations
  • Effective monitoring, control & reporting of the shaft operation, conveyor systems and any incidents, where applicable, during a shift.
  • Effective response to indicated problems & call-out procedures
  • Effective utilization of man & rock winder systems
  • Effective utilization of underground pumping systems
  • Emergency point of contact for underground emergencies
  • Liaison with central services as communication point regarding surface ore tramming
  • Minimize quantity of delays or disruptions to shaft operation due to control room ineffectiveness
  • Provide timely and accurate information
  • Reports completed to required standard & time frame requirements
  1. QUALIFICATIONS
  • Grade 12
  • Control Room Operator Certificate of Competency
  1. EXPERIENCE
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience working on a shaft
  1. KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
  • Passed control room operator specific training module
  • Role specific computer skills
  • Sound understanding of underground mining operations

Mine Overseer

  1. PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
  • The Mine Overseer has the Legal accountability with a 2.14.1 and a 2.13.12 appointment in terms of the MHSA section 26 of 1996.

The main responsibility of this role is to ensure that a dedicated section of the operational process operates effectively from a current and future best practice perspective.

The role of the Mine Overseer is therefore to manage and co-ordinate the following:

  • Mining process planning, preparing, and breaking predetermined blocks of ground, efficiently and safely
  • Delivering quality ore to the ore pass as agreed
  • Review and introduce mining best practices to enhance performance efficiencies over long term
  • Negotiate with engineering department – source and supply determined material to operations
  • Alignment of operational performances both in stope and development to the overall operational area plans contribute to the effective management of the operational area

The Mine Overseer therefore has the accountability to manage and plan for the development & provision of mining work practices, structures and services, which will contribute to the overall safety, health, and sustained profitability of the operational area.

  1. WORK OF ROLE
  • Contribute and participate in the shafts planning process to achieve optimum and integrated plans for the section as well as the total BA and BU
  • Direct area resource specialists for technical support requirements
  • Ensure that employees work in a safe environment by ensuring that the shift supervisors remained focused on their core role responsibilities
  • Ensure that management systems and practices are in place for effective business governance
  • Identify and support efforts to overcome operational problems
  • Identify opportunities to improve operation efficiencies in the section as well as BA especially from a mining perspective
  • Initiate and co-ordinate improvement projects to increase in-stope efficiencies
  • Investigates and reports any incidents / injuries
  • Maintaining health and safety
  • Manage the operation of section

3.QUALIFICATIONS

  • Grade 12
  • Mine Overseer Certificate for scheduled mines
  • Shift Supervisor Certificate
  • Blasting Certificate
    Advantageous:
  • Mining Degree or Diploma
  • Mine Managers Certificate
  1. EXPERIENCE
  • At least 5 years mining experience at metalliferous mines, at least 2 years’ experience as appointed Shift Supervisor
  • Minimum 6 Months acting exposure as Mine Overseer (2.14.1 plus 2.13.12 appointment)
  1. KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
  • First Aid Certificate
  • Certificate of Fitness
  • Computer Literate
  • Mine Health and Safety Act knowledge

Metallurgical Graduate

  • Siyanda Bakgatla Platinum Mine is offering graduate development programme to a person who already obtained a qualification in Metallurgy or Chemical Engineering. The programme offers a practical work-based training to enable graduates to adapt effectively in the world of work and to be employable at the end of their training.

  • A graduate will be required to work shifts

Processor Grade 3

  1. PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
  • The Processor Grade 3 is a shift-based entry role, which is required to carry out tasks pertaining to specific work procedures within the section. This role generally works under the direct supervision of a more senior position.
  1. WORK OF ROLE
  • Adhere to and improved safety standards
  • Availability to support with process / equipment breakdowns
  • Carry out basic operational procedures as required/directed
  • Complete data logging and reporting to standard
  • Complete safety inspections
  • Hazards identified and reported
  • Incidents reported and followed up
  • Maintain good housekeeping
  • Participate in investigations
  • Perform inspections on equipment
  • Reacting to abnormal activities
  • Safety, health, environment and quality administration
  • Start and stop equipment where required
