Job Description
Coca-Cola Beverages Africa (CCBA) presents an exciting opportunity for an External Communications and Public Relations Specialist, to join the Public Affairs, Communication & Sustainability team at CCBA.
CCBA is the 8th largest Coca-Cola authorised bottler in the world by revenue, and the largest on the continent. It accounts for over 40% of all Coca-Cola ready-to-drink beverages sold in Africa by volume. Key Purpose:
The External Communications and PR Specialist will drive CCBSA’s reputation and visibility by delivering strategic, high-impact communication initiatives across media, digital platforms, and external stakeholder networks. The role exists to position CCBSA as a trusted industry leader through proactive media engagement, compelling content creation, effective campaign execution, and strong reputation management. This specialist will play a vital part in safeguarding and elevating the company’s public image, supporting crisis communication efforts, and ensuring consistent, aligned messaging that strengthens CCBSA’s brand presence across all external touchpoints.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
Key Outputs and Accountabilities include, but not limited to:
Strategic Communication & PR Execution
Develop and implement an annual external communications and PR plan in alignment with the PACS strategy.
Prepare and distribute press releases, media advisories, Q&A documents, and opinion pieces for external audiences.
Coordinate proactive media outreach to position CCBSA as a thought leader in the beverage and FMCG sectors.
Media & Reputation Management
Serve as a key media contact, ensuring accurate and timely responses to media queries.
Manage CCBSA’s media monitoring and reporting to assess impact and identify risks/opportunities.
Prepare media briefings, talking points, and speech notes for company spokespeople.
Campaigns & Events
Support the design and delivery of high-impact PR campaigns for sustainability, community, and corporate initiatives.
Coordinate logistics, messaging, and media coverage for external events, sponsorships, and community programmes.
Work with marketing to ensure external messaging consistency across campaigns.
Crisis Communication Support
Assist in developing crisis communication responses and protocols.
Manage external communication channels during crises to ensure factual, consistent, and timely information release.
Content Creation & Digital Communication
Produce engaging content for CCBSA’s website, LinkedIn, and other digital channels to showcase corporate achievements.
Collaborate with the Internal Communications Specialist to align messaging across internal and external platforms.
Measurement & Reporting
Track, measure, and report on the reach, sentiment, and effectiveness of external communication initiatives.
Provide regular feedback to the Country Lead: Communications on media coverage trends, risks, and opportunities.
Skills, Experience & Education
Qualifications and Experience:
Education
Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing, or a related field (essential).
Postgraduate qualification in Strategic Communication, Corporate Affairs, or Business Management (advantageous).
Experience
5–8 years of experience in external communications, corporate affairs, or public relations in a corporate or agency environment.
Proven track record in media relations and managing corporate PR campaigns.
Experience in crisis communications and issue management.
FMCG, beverage, or related industry experience advantageous.
Skills
Strong written and verbal communication skills (including business writing, speech writing, and media release drafting).
Proficiency in media monitoring tools and analytics platforms.
Understanding of digital and social media best practices for corporate communications.
Project management and campaign coordination skills.
Competency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and content management systems.
Knowledge of The Coca-Cola Company’s brand guidelines (advantageous).

Regulatory Compliance & Advisory
Monitor national and regional regulations impacting beverage production, packaging, and distribution.
Provide timely regulatory guidance to cross-functional teams to ensure compliance in product development, operations, and marketing.
Advise on compliance risks and recommend risk mitigation strategies.
Regulatory Submissions & Licensing
Prepare and manage regulatory submissions, product registrations, and licensing applications.
Track and ensure timely renewal of permits and licenses required for production and distribution.
Compliance Monitoring & Audits
Implement and oversee internal compliance monitoring processes.
Support regulatory inspections and audits by government agencies and certification bodies.
Drive corrective and preventive actions (CAPAs) arising from compliance audits.
Policy & Regulatory Analysis
Analyze new and emerging legislation and standards, assessing their implications for the business.
Summarize and report regulatory changes to the Country Lead and affected business units.
Documentation & Record Keeping
Maintain up-to-date records of all regulatory submissions, permits, licenses, and compliance reports.
Ensure documentation meets internal standards and regulatory requirements.
Skills, Experience & Education
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Law, Food Science, Environmental Science, or related field.
Postgraduate certification or diploma in Regulatory Affairs or Compliance is an advantage.
Experience:
5–8 years of experience in regulatory affairs or compliance roles, preferably in FMCG, beverage, food, or manufacturing industries.
Hands-on experience managing regulatory submissions, compliance audits, and licensing processes.
Familiarity with local and regional regulatory bodies governing food safety, environment, packaging, and trade.
Skills:
In-depth knowledge of food safety standards, environmental regulations, labeling laws, and packaging standards.

Execute the company’s environmental sustainability strategy, focusing on energy, water, waste, and carbon reduction. aligned with global and local goals.
Roll out site-specific waste minimization, segregation, and recycling programs across production and distribution operations.
Conduct waste management training and awareness campaigns across operational teams to build a waste-conscious culture
Execute packaging recovery and recycling initiatives, including partnerships with recyclers and community collection schemes.
Collaborate with packaging teams to explore eco-design and sustainable packaging options.
Environmental Performance Monitoring, Waste Auditing & Analysis, & Regulatory Compliance
Track and report key sustainability metrics (e.g., water use ratio, energy intensity, CO2 emissions).
Conduct regular environmental audits and assessments to ensure compliance and identify improvement areas.
Analyze waste data to track progress, identify trends, and adjust strategies for improvement.
Ensure compliance with national waste management laws, EPR schemes, packaging waste regulations, and industry standards and and support external environmental and waste compliance audits.
Climate Resilience & Risk Management
Support climate risk assessments and develop resilience strategies for production operations.
Coordinate with global teams to ensure local initiatives align with international commitments.
Sustainability Reporting & Compliance

Skills, Experience & Education
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Sustainability, Engineering, or related discipline.
Postgraduate qualification in Sustainability Management, Environmental Engineering, or Climate Studies is an advantage.
Experience:
5–8 years’ experience in sustainability roles within FMCG, manufacturing, or beverage sectors.
Proven track record in implementing resource efficiency, climate, or packaging sustainability initiatives.
Familiarity with sustainability reporting frameworks and compliance requirements.
Skills:
Strong knowledge of ISO 14001, ISO 50001, and environmental compliance standards.
Proficient in sustainability reporting platforms and tools (e.g., CDP, GRI, TCFD).
Skilled in data analysis and sustainability performance management.
Solid understanding of waste auditing methodologies and waste hierarchy principles.
Project management skills, including multi-site coordination.
Excellent communication skills for technical and non-technical audiences.
