Registered Nurse ICU

Zuid-Afrikaans Hospital is currently seeking Registered Nurses to join our Intensive Care Units (Cardio ICU, Multi ICU, and General ICU) for both day and night duty shifts.

As a Registered Nurse in the ICU, your responsibilities will include:

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Ensure assessment, planning, executing, and supervising the implementation of cost-effective holistic care to meet patient needs.
  2. Practice patient care according to your Scope of Practice and assume total responsibility for these activities.
  3. Ensure a safe working environment in accordance with health and safety standards and policies.
  4. Collaborate with the multi-disciplinary team to ensure all patients’ needs are met.
  5. Maintain accurate patient records and conduct audits to ensure compliance with legal requirements.
  6. Create a safe patient environment by enforcing infection control principles and policies.
  7. Participate in Doctor’s rounds and ensure that requests and prescriptions are executed according to hospital standards.
  8. Assist with in-service training and orientation when applicable.
  9. Control, bill, and manage stock according to hospital protocols.
  10. Manage and care for equipment, reporting faults to the clinical engineering department.
  11. Maintain a healthy relationship with external stakeholders by reporting and escalating unresolved issues to the Unit Manager.
  12. Perform all duties in accordance with the South African Nursing Council (SANC), Department of Health (DOH), and Office of Healthcare

Education:

  • Degree or Diploma in general nursing science.
  • Qualification in Medical & Surgical Nursing Science: Critical Care, will be an advantage.
  • Current registration with South African Nursing Council as registered nurse.

Experience:

  • Work experience in a private hospital will be an advantage.
  • Minimum of two years’ experience in an Intensive Care Unit is essential.

We currently have vacancies for Registered Nurses in our General Wards (Cardiac, Medical, Surgical and Orthopaedic). We have vacancies available for both day and night positions.

Responsibilities
  • Practice patient care according to his/her Scope of Practice and assume total responsibility for these activities.
  • Responsible for assessing, planning, executing, and supervising the implementation of care to meet patient needs.
  • Ensure that all documentation is maintained accurately and timeously reflecting the nursing care plan, patient treatment and patient progress.
  • Providing accurate, appropriate, and adequate information to patients and family members during hospitalisation.
  • Render and promote cost-effective, safe, and quality patient care in accordance with hospital standards and policies.
  • Practice the principles of infection prevention and all standard precautions by following the company’s IPC policies.
  • Monitoring and implementing preventative measures to minimize risk.
  • Maintain a healthy relationship with external stakeholders by reporting and escalating unresolved issues to the unit manager.
  • The team member will perform nursing duties in accordance with the South African Nursing Council (SANC), the Department of Health (DOH) and Office of Healthcare Standards compliance.
Education:
  • Degree or diploma in general nursing science.
  • Current registration with the South African Nursing Council as a registered nurse.
Experience:
  • A minimum of two years of work experience in a private hospital is essential.
