Description

To supervise and lead the implementation of radiological protection and conventional safety in Vaalputs facility/facilities ultimately to ensure overall safety of employees as well as to stop work in hazardous situations. 

Key Performance Areas

Lead and supervise RPO’s at the Vaalputs facility on a daily basis and manage and implement the Radiation Protection program to ensure overall safety of employees and infrastructure. These activities include:

  • Perform on-the-job safety evaluation of projects, processes and procedures in order to identify, control and protect against radiological hazards;
  • Provide RP and SHEQ advice directly to Facility Managers and operational employees;
  • Invigilate all RP activities in the facilities;
  • Monitor work areas and operations;
  • Prescribe appropriate personal protective equipment and ensure that such equipment is provided and used correctly;
  • Approve and control protective measures required on work permits and in work instructions;
  • Monitor worker exposure; and
  • Provide RP support during emergency exercises and emergencies.
  • Evaluate, review, update and adapt the Radiation Protection program for the designated facility to ensure continuous maintenance of the program and safety within the facility.
  • Report to the Facility Head on the following services to ensure continuous reporting and feedback on a weekly/biweekly/monthly basis:
  • Identification;
  • Evaluation;
  • Measurement;
  • Record keeping; and
  • Control of occupational risk.
  • Implement all relevant SHEQ-Instruction documents at facilities to ensure compliance with relevant acts, regulations, license and permit requirements.
  • Assist in overseeing the implementation of other safety disciplines within the facility.
  • Guide RPO’s and facility heads, relevant managers and operational employees technically on various safety disciplines to ensure compliance with SHEQ, permit and license requirements.
  • Comply with SHEQ quality standards, safety requirements and protocol to ensure that all control and surveillance programmes are executed and completed in the prescribed manner.

Requirements

COMPETENCIES (Job Specific and Behavioural)

  • Knowledge of radiation and radioactive materials
  • Radiological and conventional safety.
  • Good working knowledge of Safety, Health, Environment and Quality (SHEQ) systems, requirements; Acts, regulations, licenses, permits and protocols.
  • Basic to intermediate knowledge of the following MS Office programs: Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.

  • Practical experience in RPO and conventional safety aspects.

Job Profile:

Description

Job Profile:

The Shift Operator operates the plant in accordance with approved work instructions, ensuring the safe and continuous operation of the Surface Fluorination Plant and related processes. The role supports plant efficiency, safety, quality compliance, and operational continuity. The Shift Operator ensures equipment, product handling, and process areas meet required operational and safety standards while adhering to work instructions and management directives.

Key Performance Areas

Plant Operations/Manufacturing

  • Operates daily operational tasks in the fluorination plant to ensure maximum output and continuous operation.
  • Operate equipment and support processes in accordance with approved work instructions, safety protocols, and management guidelines.
  • Perform plant readings, record data, and complete operational checklists accurately and on time.  Material Handling 
  • Verify correct products and samples on racks before processing; ensure they match operational requirements.
  • Assist in the packing and unpacking of racks in collaboration with the Supervisor, ensuring no disruption to production.
  • Check all products for burn marks or discoloration and report any defects.
  • Participate in the loading and off-loading of trucks, coordinating with the Supervisor to ensure minimal disruption to plant operations.Equipment and Process Maintenance 
  • Ensure reactors are thoroughly cleaned and free of contamination before initiating the fluorination process.
  • Report any equipment faults or defects to senior personnel for timely maintenance or repair.Compliance with SHEQ requirements 
  • Adhere to company SHEQ (Safety, Health, Environmental, and Quality) standards, including wearing PPE correctly at all times.
  • Ensure PPE is in good condition, and that specialized PPE is stored according to procedures.
  • Conduct at least one job observation monthly on work instructions and submit findings.
  • Participate in the review and update of work instructions in collaboration with senior team members.
  • Maintain high housekeeping standards throughout the shift to ensure a safe, clean, and organized work environment.
  • Report sub-standard equipment, unsafe practices, or safety issues immediately to the relevant personnel.
  • Ensure all mandatory/statutory training is completed and up to date.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Chemical Process Knowledge

Minimum Qualification Requirements:

         ·         National Certificate/ Grade 12 / Standard 10/ Trade certificate or equivalent to (NQF 4) with mathematics subject;

         ·         Valid Forklift license will be an added advantage

         ·         Valid Overhead Crane license will be an added advantage.

Minimum Experience:

  • A minimum of 2 years in a 24-hour chemical plant operations
  • Experience in plant operations will be advantageous.
