Senior Program Manager – Fixed term contract

Introduction

Role Overview

This role provides strategic oversight and manages cross-functional teams responsible for delivering defined project outputs on time, within budget, at the required quality.

The program management function leads, plans, organizes, monitors, and oversees multiple projects within the business unit to meet defined BU objectives.

  • Planning and Defining Scope: Establishing the scope of the program and its individual projects.
  • Project Planning and Monitoring: Developing detailed project plans and tracking their progress.
  • Resource Coordination: Efficiently allocating and coordinating resources across projects.
  • Risk Management: Identifying and mitigating risks to ensure projects are delivered on time and within budget.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Building and maintaining relationships with stakeholders.
  • Documentation Management: Creating and maintaining comprehensive project documentation.
  • Status Reporting: Regularly reporting the program’s status and escalating issues as needed.
  • Change Management: Managing changes to project scope, schedule, and costs.
  • Support requirements of the enterprise program manager (if supporting a program) to provide necessary information and support for successful program delivery.
  • Negotiate the performance of activities with team members and their managers if operating in a matrix environment.
  • Coach to clarify assignments and deliverables, mentor others in project management practices: review quality of work and manages integration of team members’ work
  • Define, Manage and communicate a clear vision of the project’s objectives and motivate the project team to achieve them; create a project environment that enables peak performance by team members.
  • Organize the work into manageable activity clusters (phases) and determines an effective approach to completing the work.
  • With Estimator(s), compile a complete and accurate estimate of a project, using reserves appropriately.
  • With Project support manager, analyse original estimate against actual hours and duration, and understand the factors that contributed to any variance.
  • Effectively coordinates the activities of the team to meet project milestones.
  • Provides input/justification for project costs and budget impact.
  • Manage vendor relations and procurement related to the project(s).

Desired Experience & Qualification

Education and Experience

  • BEng or BSc Computer Science degree or equivalent
  • 10 years’ experience in managing strategic projects
  • Proven track record in managing strategic projects within the ICT environment
  • Ability to synthesize complex information and present it clearly.
  • Demonstrated experience in stakeholder management and relationship building.

Knowledge:

  • Technical knowledge and understanding of the ICT environment.
  • Knowledge of the broadcasting and telecommunications sector locally and internationally.
  • Understanding of the relevant legislative framework dealing with the ICT sector.
  • Knowledge of the Public Finance Management Act (PFMA)

Introduction

The Sentech Broadband Business Division invites applications from seasoned and qualified candidates for the position of Manager: Solution Development. The role is responsible for leading a team of engineers and technicians and collaborating with cross-functional teams to bring innovative solutions to the market. The role will focus on product and service innovation, managing the development process of the product and services as well as ensuring that the product and services are delivered at high-quality to meet customer’s needs.


Duties & Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities
Solution Development and Innovation:

● Conduct market research to identify customer needs, competitive landscape, and emerging trends.
● Define solution requirements, prioritise features, and crafting solution proposals.
● Set strategic products and services goals and KPIs to measure success and alignment with business objectives.
● Design, development, implementation and quality assurance of broadband solutions.
● Drive the end-to-end solution development process, from concept to launch, ensuring high-quality deliverables.
● Champion innovation by staying informed about industry trends, emerging technologies, and customer demands.
● Oversee product design and testing, ensuring solutions meet customer needs and align with quality standards.
● Implement Agile methodologies and best practices to streamline development processes and increase efficiency.
● Promote a culture of continuous improvement, fostering creative problem-solving and risk-taking.

Market Analysis and Customer Insights

● Conduct comprehensive market analysis to identify market trends, opportunities, and threats.
● Gather and analyse customer insights through surveys, interviews, and data analysis to inform product decisions.
● Segment target markets and define customer personas to tailor solution offerings effectively.
● Monitor competitor strategies and market dynamics, adjusting solution strategies accordingly.
● Develop pricing models and strategies that align with market positioning and customer value.

Solution Lifecycle Management:

● Manage the entire solution lifecycle.
● Develop and execute strategies for solution updates, feature enhancements, and solution retirement.
● Assess solution performance and customer feedback to make data-driven decisions about solution evolution.
● Ensure seamless transitions between solution phases, minimising disruption to customers and stakeholders.
● Develop strategies for solution sunsetting and legacy support.

Regulatory Compliance and Standards:

● Ensure that broadband products and solutions comply with relevant regulatory requirements and industry standards.
● Stay informed about changes in telecommunications regulations and proactively address compliance challenges.
● Collaborate with legal and compliance teams to facilitate regulatory audits and documentation.
● Develop processes for monitoring and maintaining compliance throughout the solution life cycle.
● Mitigate compliance risks and maintain accurate records to demonstrate adherence.

Strategic Partnerships and Alliances:

● Identify and establish strategic partnerships and alliances with industry organisations, vendors, and partners.
● Collaborate with partners to enhance solution offerings, expand market reach, and drive innovation.
● Negotiate partnership agreements, contracts, and terms that align with business goals and objectives.
● Manage ongoing relationships with partners, ensuring mutual success and value creation.
● Leverage partnerships to access new technologies, distribution channels, and customer segments.

Leadership:

● Lead and motivate cross-functional teams, including solution engineers, product engineers and specialists, designers, and marketers.
● Foster a collaborative and innovative work environment, ensuring effective communication and collaboration.
● Define roles and responsibilities, set performance expectations, and provide mentorship and coaching to team members.
● Manage resource allocation, budgeting, and project timelines to achieve product development milestones.
● Resolve conflicts and obstacles to keep solution development projects on track.


Desired Experience & Qualification

Education:
● Bachelor’s degree in Telecommunications, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, or equivalent.
● Honours degree in a related field will be an added advantage.
● Relevant certifications, such as those related to product management, project management, or telecommunications, can be beneficial.

Experience:
● Minimum of 8 years of relevant experience in roles related to product management, solution development, or a related field with 5 years managerial experience
● Proven experience in leading solution development initiatives, including defining product strategies, creating roadmaps, and managing cross-functional teams to deliver successful products and solutions.
● In-depth knowledge of the telecommunications industry, including broadband technologies, regulatory landscape, industry standards, and competitive dynamics.
● Proven experience in conducting market analysis, including market research, competitive intelligence, and customer segmentation, to identify market opportunities and inform product strategies.
● A track record of driving innovation within solution development, including the integration of emerging technologies and industry trends into product offerings.
● Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with engineering, marketing, sales, and other cross-functional teams to align product development efforts with business objectives.
● Experience in managing the entire solution lifecycle, from concept to end-of-life, making data-driven decisions about product evolution and enhancements.
● Knowledge of regulatory requirements and standards relevant to the telecommunications industry, including compliance management and audits.
● Experience in identifying, establishing, and managing strategic partnerships and alliances with industry organisations, vendors, and partners to enhance product offerings and market reach.
● Experience in maintaining comprehensive documentation of solution development processes, milestones, and outcomes, including financial reporting and performance metrics.

● Awareness of regulatory requirements and standards relevant to the broadband and telecommunications sector.
