Duties and responsibilities:
In consultation with the Academic Head of Physics undertake the following:
• Manage the curriculum processes of the department.
• Develop new learning programs in consultation with stakeholders.
• Ensure frequent and continuous development and management of the operational plan of the Programme.
• Provide general leadership in the Programme and ensure academic coherence across all the various modules of the programme.
• Ensure that the activities of the Programme are undertaken in accordance with the governance, policy, and regulatory frameworks of the University.
• Assume responsibility for the academic quality of the Programme.
• Manage the academic administration of the Programme.
• Ensure scholarship of high quality.
• Manage matters relating to teaching, learning, and students in the Programme.
• Conduct own research.
• Provide academic advice in terms of academic inquiries, amendments of yearbooks, schedules, timetables, etc. related to the Programme.
• Serve on the marketing committee of the faculty as necessary.
• Assist with marketing pamphlets or any suitable marketing material, etc. for the purpose of needs assessment and correlation of subject content with professional precepts.
Inherent Job Requirements:
• PhD degree on NQF Level 10.
• Any full-time, permanent member of the academic staff of the Department of Physics at the University of the Free State (UFS).

• Expand the university’s international fundraising footprint, with a focus on high-impact relationships in different global regions.
• Build and steward relationships with multilateral agencies, embassies, and development aid organisations to unlock funding opportunities for key university projects.
• Build a culture of philanthropy within the UFS community and provide executive-level leadership on fundraising campaigns and donor engagement initiatives.

- Master’s degree on NQF Level 9 in Mathematical Statistics, Applied Statistics, Biostatistics, or a related degree in Statistical or Actuarial Sciences (contract appointment: five years during which a PhD on NQF Level 10 in Mathematical Statistics, Applied Statistics, Biostatistics, or a related degree in Statistical or Actuarial Sciences MUST be obtained to be converted to a permanent position).
- Proven experience in presentation of poster or oral presentations at conferences or equivalent activities.
- A good academic record (attach a copy).
Senior Lecturer
- A PhD on NQF Level 10 in Mathematical Statistics, Applied Statistics, Biostatistics, or a related degree in Statistical or Actuarial Sciences.
- Experience in presentation of paper/posters at national scholarly conferences or industry conferences.
- National recognition for specialist expertise and research in a specific area of scholarship.
- Experience in supervision of research (e.g. graduated master’s degree students).
- A research record of relevant publications in national and international accredited journals.
- Active membership of a relevant national or international scholarly society.
Associate Professor
- A PhD on NQF Level 10 in Mathematical Statistics, Applied Statistics, Biostatistics, or a related degree in Statistical or Actuarial Sciences.
- Experience as external examiner for postgraduate students.
- Experience in presentation of research papers at national conferences.
- Reviewer of quality international journals.
- National recognition for specialist expertise and research leadership in a specific scientific area of scholarship.
- An NRF rating of at least C3 or other evidence of peer-reviewed status.
- Proven experience in the supervision of graduated master’s degree students.
- A sizeable research record of relevant publications in national and international accredited journals.
- Serve as a member of a national scholarly society, with high engagement.
Professor
- A PhD on NQF Level 10 in Mathematical Statistics, Applied Statistics, Biostatistics, or a related degree in Statistical or Actuarial Sciences.
- Experience as external examiner for master’s and doctoral students.
- Act as editorial board member of high-quality international/ ISI / IBSS journals.
- International recognition for specialist expertise and research leadership in a particular area of academic scholarship (e.g. regularly serves as a reviewer for international/ ISI / IBSS journals).
- A NRF rating of at least C2 or C1 or equivalent status.
- Demonstrated successful supervision of graduated master’s and preferably graduated doctoral students.
- Experience in delivering keynote addresses or workshops at national scholarly conferences.
- Serve as a member of an international scholarly society OR an international committee or agency concerned with research at higher education levels, with high engagement.
Recommendations:
- Experience in statistical analysis for complex data using R, SAS, Python, or other industry tools of similar marketability.
- Teaching experience at tertiary institution level.
- Good communication and social skills.
