The Senior Technical Advisor for Transport Fuels and Lubricants plays a pivotal role in delivering expert technical leadership across the Sasol Energy value chain, ensuring the quality, performance, and application of transport fuels, lubricants, and related products. The advisor is responsible for maintaining a product portfolio and basket of products, fuels and lubricants, that are fit for purpose and support the business and technical strategies of the Commercials sales team. This includes guiding the development of fit-for-purpose technical solutions, supporting product formulation and troubleshooting, and contributing to technical product roadmaps aligned with business strategy and customer needs. The advisor also provides technical marketing support during tender processes by articulating the product’s value proposition, quality management, sustainability, including renewable alternatives, and value-added services. Key Accountabilities

• Technical Leadership: Deliver expert guidance on product quality, equipment, and technical claims across the Sasol Energy value chain, ensuring robust product governance and alignment with business objectives. • Customer technical support: Provide technical market support, incident investigation, problem solving, and product optimisation for Sasol’s energy products and customers, maximising operational performance and “money per molecule.” • Cross-functional Integration: Foster synergies across the product portfolio and operations, collaborating closely with engineering, marketing, and sales to optimise outcomes and ensure technical solutions are implemented effectively at forecourts, commercial installations, depots, gantries, logistics, and in marketing materials. • Industry and Stakeholder Engagement: Represent Sasol at specification, industry, and regulatory bodies, build strategic relationships with key partners, and act as the main interface between end-users, business units, and operations/research teams. • Product Roadmap and Development: Contribute to the development and execution of technical product roadmaps that support business strategy, drive product differentiation, and enable cost optimisation. Key Accountabilities

Sustainable Sourcing Business Development:

Develop and implement tactical plans for sourcing feedstocks sustainably, ensuring alignment with corporate sustainability goals, regulatory requirements, and asset transformation plans.

Participate in the development of low-carbon feedstock value chains, such as Biomass, Biolipids, and Biomethane, to support strategic objectives.

Assist in maintaining competitor analysis on priority feedstocks, informed by market intelligence, to dictate competitive positioning.

Review and evaluate third-party feedstock-related proposals to ensure alignment with sustainability and business objectives.

Developing business cases for approval by the appropriate body for the upstream feedstock value chain.

Identify risks and contingency plans related to feedstock availability, environmental impact, and supply chain security.

Ensure all relevant technologies and infrastructure requirements are considered for optimization in novel value chains, including competitor analysis on feedstock processing technologies.

Commercial:

Demonstrate a strong track record in identifying, negotiating, and securing commercially viable low-carbon feedstock opportunities. 

Lead commercial engagements with suppliers and partners to structure agreements that balance sustainability, cost-effectiveness, and long-term value creation. 

Translate technical and sustainability requirements into commercially executable strategies, ensuring alignment with broader business goals. 

Support contract development and feedstock pricing strategies through market analysis, risk assessment, and financial modeling. 

Drive commercial due diligence for new feedstock ventures, including feasibility studies, cost-benefit analyses, and investment proposals. 

Collaborate with finance and legal teams to ensure robust commercial governance and compliance in feedstock transactions.

Certification:

Collaborate with certification teams to ensure feedstocks meet relevant sustainability certifications (e.g., FSC, ISCC+, RSB)

Stay updated on global and regional regulations related to sustainable sourcing and ensure compliance.

Project and Capital Planning:

Deliver integrated low-carbon feedstock business development and value roadmaps, translating milestones into actionable project deliverables.

Develop and own low-carbon feedstock capital planning, track changes in capital, and ensure required approvals are in place.

Stakeholder Engagement:

Work with internal teams (e.g., Supply Chain, R&D, Sustainability) and external stakeholders (e.g., industry groups) to develop sustainable cost effective solutions.

Build relationships with potential suppliers, industry bodies, and key stakeholders relating to the feedstock value chain.

Data Analysis and Reporting:

Track and analyze data related to feedstock sourcing, e.g., carbon footprint, and water usage.

Prepare reports and presentations for internal and external stakeholders on project progress  including EVP and CEO reports.

Develop tracking mechanisms to monitor milestones and deliverables at a project level with clear KPIs.

The role provides Key performance Indicators (KPI) analysis and helps challenge the business on operational performance. It is responsible for the Refining and Supply Operation Review (RSO) with Refinery team and helps co-ordinate the roll-up of the below the line refinery processes. Furthermore, the incumbent will be responsible for the Refining operational and financial (income statement, finance KPI’s etc.) performance. The role also assists the Performance Supply Team, including the consolidation of the vulnerabilities and opportunities and tracking of Sasol 2.0 initiatives relating to Supply and Refining.

Key Accountabilities

Calculation of the gross and net refining margins, analysis thereof against plan, budget and prior periods. Hold discussion with Planning and Trading team in analysing the refining margin and providing reasons for variance to Group and other stakeholders Manage month end processes and procedures relating to Refining including management of SAP system and ensuring the system reflects accurate and complete financial results. Manage the Refining Income statement and provide variance against budget and forecast. Responsible for robust forecasting and budgeting processes within refining and variance analysis to comparative periods. Co-ordination with Natref JV in understanding crude processing in actuals and obtain an understanding of deviations against budget and forecast. Finance representative in working groups (where applicable) for Natref Refinery scenario planning. Ad-hoc requests from internal and external auditors and external consultants. Prepare results presentation and present to VP JV Trading and JV Management. Monitoring of Refining related Sasol 2.0 initiatives and assessing actuals against targets. Support in the delivery of an optimised Refinery assessment to the business. Overall accountability for: Forms part and contributes to the monthly Natref JV refinery planning meeting (including helping set the agenda, developing meeting materials where applicable, etc.) Assists in identifying business risks and opportunities, in consultation with the business, ensuring that risks and opportunities are clearly understood and that actions are in place to mitigate and manage these. Leads analysis and makes suggestions for interventions on behalf of the business; appropriate optimisation kpi’s are tracked and reported, and ensure that performance dashboards are updated for the Natref JV & Trading meetings. Assists with ensuring that key business issues are reconciled, recommendations are proposed, and the information pack is prepared in order to support effective JV Trading and JV Management meetings Assist with the delivery of key projects within Refining (finance representative).

Minimum requirement: Formal Education and Experience

University Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration or Finance or Engineering (Chemical) with a minimum 6 years of relevant finance experience in the refining oil and gas industry.
