At PRASA, partnerships with technical and academic learning institutions are essential to providing access to the job market. Furthermore, partnerships are a foundation for extensive knowledge sharing, innovation, and preparing the next generation of professionals for promising careers in public transport and infrastructure development. Our collaborations with educational institutions and research organisations aim to provide access and align the rail industry’s needs with education, learning, and training. This will, in turn, promote research and empower communities through shared learning opportunities.
Our focus areas
Partnerships with Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) colleges and technical and academic institutions breed a collaborative learning culture for PRASA and its partners. This has far-reaching benefits industrywide, and when well implemented, it elevates the republic to have influence past its borders—providing a good skills supply in the plans for the Intra Africa Free Trade Area Agreement and all other plans for public transport growth in the region and beyond.
Leadership
A SETA-registered training program that targets a group of people in a specific category of staff and/or members of unemployed youth for the provision of a theoretical and practical learning provision
Internships
Afforded to unemployed graduates who have completed qualifications in streams deemed critical for PRASA and Industry skills needs for practical work exposure, aiming to equip them with the minimal work experience that will make them readily employable. This includes, though not limited to, qualifications in rail engineering, urban planning, and customer service.
Traineeships
Trade-specific practical work exposure over and above theoretical learning provided through either TVET or all other accredited technical training providers, internally and externally.
Work-Integrated Learning (WIL)
This is done on an episodic (time-to-time) basis for students who need to complete specific workplace tasks in line with their continued studies as part of their academic achievements.
Research and Innovation
PRASA collaborates with academic institutions to address real-world transport infrastructure, safety, technology, and sustainability challenges. These partnerships drive impactful research with mutual benefits for the industry and academia.
Benefits of partnering with PRASA
Community development
Youth employment enables the organisation to take care of its environment through access to income for the members of youth whilst in the process of developing themselves. It also creates a future pool of employees that will enable the sustainability of services.
Access to Resources
This will benefit South Africa’s youth through the partnerships by providing access to PRASA’s facilities, data, and expertise for teaching and research.
Industry Exposure
Enhance student learning through exposure to PRASA’s operational environment and challenges while, in turn, providing Prasa with an opportunity to learn and adopt innovative technologies for continued growth.
Joint Projects
Collaborate on impactful research and development projects.
