PURPOSE OF POSITION:

Reporting to Marketing Manager- SABC News: To develop, implement and evaluating

of SABC News brand, marketing strategy and national campaigns and well as public relations. Contribute to the delivery of best-practice and innovative brand marketing and communication strategies within SABC News, and will work to ensure that the respective SABC News platform is promoted and positioned to drive its platform objectives.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. DEVELOPMENT OF STRATEGY AND BUSINESS PLANS

  • Oversee the development, implementation and evaluation of the SABC News brand and PR strategy in line with the network strategy.

2. BUSINESS OPERATIONAL EFFICIENCY AND COST MANAGEMENT

  • In consultation with the SABC News platform, lead the development, execution and evaluation of a range of national platform campaigns.
  • Develop an influencer management plan for the specific SABC News platform being overseen.
  • Develop and implement strategic communication and marketing strategies (both internal and external) for key SABC News projects and initiatives.
  • Lead the development, management and evaluation of an influencer/ ambassador

program

  • Manage the application of the brand across corporate partners
  • Oversee the production and distribution of marketing and communications collateral for the SABC News platforms
  •  Provide strategic advice and recommendations to the Executive on marketing and PR strategies.
  • Build key relations with the media, bloggers and social influencers
  • Write regular media pieces promoting the SABC News programmes, profiling key celebrities and highlighting ground-breaking initiatives
  • Establish initiatives, policies and procedures that deliver ongoing improvements in service delivery
  • Writing, editing and proof reading of all content for internal and external publications including in house magazines, newsletters and press releases
  • Provide advice to senior management and leadership on SABC News specific brand and PR.
  • Management of budget to ensure effectiveness and cost containment

3. GOVERNANCE, RISK AND COMPLIANCE

  • Monitor and report on the operational risk and compliance matters
  • Implement internal control measures to ensure good governance.
  • Manage financial risks to protect organisational integrity, create value, prevent financial loss and ensure compliance with applicable policies and legislations.
  • Implement execution internal risk audits identified and address gaps.
  • Implement Occupational Health and Safety Act.

4. CUSTOMER AND STAKEHOLDER MANAGEMENT

  • Champion relationships with key external industry and media stakeholder
  • Creating value in each customer interaction and focusing on the total customer experience.
  • Manage relations with influencers
  • Accurate identification of and compliance with customer needs
  • Customer queries/ complaints resolved in accordance with service standards and SLA’s.

5. FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT

  • Oversee unit operational expenditure against approved budget and introduce corrective
  • Measures to ensure financial discipline and accountability.
  • Ensure that the operational budget is managed in such a way as to assure no wasteful expenditure.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelors Degree or Diploma in marketing, Communications or related field (NQF 6/7)

Main purpose of Position: 

To manage and provide strategic direction to the Operations Team/s, to optimally facilitate the technical and operational requirements of Radio and TV broadcasting according to the requirements of internal and external clients. Effective and efficient planning, scheduling, coordination and utilization of facilities and resources to manage productions and operations and contribute to broadcast content.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Complete knowledge of the broadcast chain to fully understand the customer requirement and provide expert sound technical and operational system solutions to serve the customer’s needs
  • Complete and thorough understanding of all genres of broadcasting both for Television and Radio to provide an expert multi-skilled solution, e.g. Sport, Drama, SONA, Parliament Activations, Radio & TV Outside Broadcasts, Live & Production Studios, News, etc
  • Create and maintain a positive relationship with all Divisions by understanding their operational requirements and providing expert system solutions that will meet all diverse requirements.
  • Document, investigate, and provide expert solutions to customer queries and complaints within agreed turnaround time.
  • Implement Performance Management as per organizational policy and procedures
  • Engage with staff to address performance shortfalls and engage with organizational units to address training shortfalls
  • Disseminate information and ensure all staff remain informed at all times of organizational and divisional matters
  • Expertly maintain a positive relationship with all suppliers to protect the interests of all internal clients as well as be informed of future technology advancements.
  • Regular customer engagements to understand current and future-based needs, thereby providing expert innovative measures and solutions to all aspects of their environment

  • Advanced level of operational knowledge & understanding of discipline e.g. equipment & facilities in broadcast environment, operating systems, first line maintenance, etc.
  • Execution of all genres of broadcasting especially with dramas, documentaries, sport broadcasts, live broadcasts, orchestra recordings, live front of house, music production, production of documentaries, news in the field support, government activations, Radio and TV activations with clients, etc.
  • Setting up, monitoring and managing outside broadcast infrastructure to ensure adherence to technical and safety specifications, maximum utilisation of facilities and resources for successful recording, production and broadcast
  • Quality control and monitoring of productions (internal and external) to ensure efficiency and effectiveness of operations and ensuring quality productions
  • Assisting and monitoring with rigging and de-rigging cables and equipment, ensuring the efficient and effective setting up and dismantling of the complete infrastructure and its safe return to the SABC base.
  • Managing specialised skills within the team to leverage alternative revenue streams as and when required
  • Expert problem-solving principles to resolve a fault within a reasonable time in a facility system during production, showing the understanding of the system, e.g. transmission problems, configuration, etc.
  • Read, analyse, identify and understand technical circuit drawings and component functionality.

MAIN PURPOSE OF POSITION

To provide SABC radio and TV Sport productions with efficient logistical support services in order to ensure cost-effectiveness of operations.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

DEVELOP AND IMPLEMENT OF THE OPERATIONAL PLAN

  • Provide support and input in the development and implementation of business unit strategy.
  • Monitor and manage departmental inputs and outputs to ensure maximum efficiencies.
  • Provide input into the development and implementation of the business plans.
  • Develop operational standards and ensure the attainability & sustainability.
  • Develop services level agreement and monitor implementation.

BUSINESS OPERATIONAL EFFICIENCY

  • Manage and control Programme operations budgets and encourage cost containment.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Diploma/Degree in Business Administration/Finance or equivalent qualification.
  • 6 Years Sport broadcasting experience of which 3 finance operations.
  • 2 years’ experience in broadcasting on Managerial/Supervisor level
