Job Advert SummaryThe incumbent will be required to work closely with the underwriter and Specialist for training, coaching and guidance, on the following underwriting tasks:

Development and review the Sasria policy wordings and guidelines to ensure consistency in the management of the Sasria business by the Agents.
Dissemination of product knowledge to the industry.
Product development and enhancement.
Loss ratio management.
Managing technical queries from the industry.
Ensuring that product pricing is in line with the risk exposure.

Duties and Responsibilities1.Strategic Alignment 

Increasing capacity and knowledge of Sasria business in order to have skills to tap into whenever the need arises.

2. Underwriting management

Participate in reviewing terms and conditions of products.
Participate in reviewing our regulations and policy wordings to ensure they remain relevant and up to date.
Assist in monitoring the loss ratio movement per class of business.
Monitor and report multi claimants.
Assist in handling e-mail queries from our stakeholders.
Participate in conducting research on possible new products and enhancement of existing ones through interactions with the market.
Participate in the review of product information on our website to ensure its relevance.
Understand and adhere to client and staff relationships through individual contacts and group meetings.
Pursues professional development opportunities, including external and internal training and where possible be able to share information gained with co-workers.

3. Risk management

Contribute in identifying emerging risks.
Contribute in establishing required controls to mitigate Underwriting risk.

Duties and Responsibilities1. Employee payroll and benefits administration
Assist with performing:

Capturing employee data on the payroll system.
Updating employee Payroll data as and when required.
Administering employee leave accruals.
Capturing monthly salary inputs to ensure that lawful and accurate deductions and
Payroll changes: i.e. terminations, leave, overtime, salary adjustments, promotions and bonuses, deductions, etc.

2. Employee On-Boarding and Exit
Assist with :

Managing Organisation’s organogram by ensuring approved positions are updated and discontinued.
Positions are removed timeously.
Ensuring employees have been Onboarded and Exited as per Payroll procedure.
Ensuring all documentation relating to the Onboarding and termination of service are completed.

3. Statutory Reporting
Assist with:

Compiling Annual Employment Equity report.
 Preparing quarterly Stats SA report.
Providing inputs to Human Capital reports.

Duties and Responsibilities1. Claims processes

Accurately record and examine received claims and any related documentation thereof.
Perform document diary maintenance on CMS system.
Assess claims received by the department for reserve and keep a regular follow-up outstanding reserve once claims are verified by Claims Manager.
Approve claims within delegated authority after verification of all documents and validation thereof under the policy cover.
Escalate complex claims to Supervisor.
Assist in the extrapolation of monthly reports on claims.

2. Agency/ Broker Liaison

Inform underwriting department of gaps in cover and/or wording documents as well as adjustors such as losses/ gains on premium.
Exercises proper judgment and decision making to analyze the claims exposure, to determine the proper course of action and to appropriately settle the claim.
Negotiate the settlement and disposition of claims within prescribed mandate; interpret related claims documentation.

The Head of Business Intelligence plays a key role in ensuring that Sasria is, at all times, fully apprised of the external risks that
could impact the underwriting profit and solvency of the business.
The Head of Business Intelligence is responsible for all business intelligence activities within Sasria.
This would include being responsible for the identification and monitoring of key underwriting risk metrics, management of the catastrophe model, management of probable maximum loss studies, and, undertaking critical research to develop Sasria’s intelligence regarding critical and emerging underwriting risks.

 
Minimum RequirementsMinimum Qualifications:

A bachelor degree (actuarial, data science, statistics, mathematics, econometrics).
CERA qualification, or similar, will be advantageous.

Minimum Experience:

Minimum of 3 to 6 years experience in a similar (risk or actuarial) position.

Duties and Responsibilities1. Operational Delivery
Underwriting risk profile intelligence: Identify, track and report on the key risks affecting Sasria’s underwriting risk profile.

Lead team and/or work with suitable industry experts such as consultants, academics, NGOs, international counterparts, etc) to perform research and analysis to identify economic, political, socio-economic, legal and other risk metrics.
Maintain a database of events that may/do give rise to claims under Sasria’s defined perils. This includes working with other departments (such as underwriting and claims) as well as suitable external parties (eg SAPS, NGO’s, social media companies) to develop intelligence to identify and profile events.

Catastrophe model: Develop, maintain and manage Sasria’s catastrophe model.

Lead team and/or work with suitable industry experts (such as consultants, academics, NGOs, international counterparts, etc) to perform research and analysis (and/or work with suitable industry experts such as consultants, academics, NGOs, etc) to develop suitable catastrophe model(s), which can be used for pricing, reinsurance purchase and optimization, underwriting, strategy development, investment strategy, risk mitigation, etc.

Probable Maximum Loss (PML) studies: Develop, maintain and manage Sasria’s PML studies.

Lead team and/or work with suitable industry experts (such as consultants, academics, NGOs, international counterparts, etc) to perform PML studies for the purpose of Sasria’s reinsurance and capital optimization strategies.

Risk Mitigation

Work with stakeholders in Sasria, including Underwriting, Claims and SMD, to identify “hot-spots” for Sasria’s underwriting risk exposure and to develop practical risk mitigation strategies to reduce the incidence of loss events and/or minimize severity from loss events.
Examples include the identification of high-risk transit routes along the SA road network; locations within the country that consistently “flare up” following specified events (eg local government elections, university/school registration, etc).

Risk Analytics

Assist the broader business with reports and analytics, as may be required from time to time.
Examples may include the development of models to validate claims against a register of potential loss events, identification of multi claimants, fraud analytics, etc.

Data Collection and Management

Work closely with IT and BCT to ensure that suitable technological and data management solutions are in place tom support Sasria’s current and future data and analytics needs.

2. Business focused collaboration

Contribute to the successful achievement of Sasria’s vision, strategy and business plan, by assisting with the resolution of problems that pose a threat to the Company of not achieving its vision, strategy and business plan.
Responsible for considering key risks and broad based solutions for a number of key projects / issues within Sasria.

3. Strategic Involvement

Contribute to the creation the Sasria’s long term strategy and short term business plan.
Shaping Sasria’s risk culture by ‘setting the tone from the top’ not only through words but actions and reinforcing commitment.
