TAU Mining Consultants (Pty) Ltd. currently have the following vacancy available at their Head Offices in
Woodmead, Johannesburg:
DEPARTMENT: SUPPLY CHAIN (STORES, LOGISTICS & PROCUREMENT)

Nature of employment: Permanent position
Reports to: Senior Supply Chain Manager

Job purpose: Administer the Procurement process. Liaise with suppliers to source quotations and ensure
that the correct goods are ordered in required quantities and at competitive prices, as per approved
budget, tender or applicable service level agreement. Administer supplier list on the Pragma system and
ensure that all suppliers are duly approved and properly engaged on the Vendor system. Execute
procurement via the Pragma system and ensure that all procurement activities are conducted with
urgency whilst adhering to approved Supply Chain policies and procedures.

Key performance areas

  1. Vendors and Material Master lists
  • Ensure service level agreements exist for all major vendors (recurring purchases), applicable to
    the project.
  • Ensure that Vendors are duly engaged on the Pragma system upon receiving duly authorized
    service level agreements and/or procurement contracts.
  • Generate and implement Supplier and product code Master lists for all items that may be
    procured.
  • Assist the Snr. Buyer/Site Buyers and Senior Supply Chain Manager to:
  • Source preferred local suppliers and assist with preliminary negotiations around service level
    agreements.
  • Support and implement company BBBEE objectives and commercial contract obligations through
    supplier selection and development.
  • Render commercial inputs to determine suitable contracting approach per package.
  • Establish and maintain appropriate and professional supplier relationships.
  1. Administer Procurement and maintain Procurement system
  • Develop and maintain the supplier master data.
  • Update Supplier lists on system and perform frequent system clean-ups to remove inactive
    suppliers, subject to approval by the Senior Supply Chain Manager and applicable Procurement
    policies.
  • Ensure that all orders for goods to be procured are timeously placed with Suppliers. Follow up on
    orders placed and generate logistic reports with associated delivery timelines in conjunction with
    the Logistics Controller and/or Stores Superintendent.
  • Perform proper planning and procure materials, parts, supplies and equipment in a timely and
    cost-effective way, while maintaining appropriate quality standards and specifications.
  1. Cost Saving Initiatives and Continuous Improvement
  • Act in a cost-conscious manner and engage with suppliers frequently around trade discounts.
  • Ensure that the best product is sourced at the best price and at the best quality; conduct frequent
    market research and generate Cost saving Initiatives and proposals to be considered by the
    Senior Supply Chain and General Manager.
  • Establish supplier performance management and develop mechanisms and systems to track
    performance.
  • Identify, enhance and implement Supply Chain best practices
  1. Reporting
  • Assist the Snr. Buyer to generate monthly or Ad Hoc Procurement reports.
  • Monitor supplier turnaround times within procurement cycles.
  • Ensure compliance to all aspects of the materials management control function.
  • Timeously identify risks or anticipated product shortages that may affect operations. Investigate
    and present solutions or alternatives that may be considered to reduce risks.

Minimum Job requirements:

  • Diploma or Degree related to Supply Chain Management, Procurement or Accounting (Formal
    qualification will be advantageous)
  • Must have at least 3-5 years’ related experience as Buyer.
  • Must have a valid Driver’s license and clean criminal record.

Knowledge, Attitude, Skills & Abilities:

  • Must have excellent knowledge of heavy earthmoving equipment and parts with at least 2 years’
    related working experience in an opencast mining environment.
  • Excellent computer skills and vast knowledge of related software programs (MS Office, Pragma &
    Sage).
  • Strong numerical and accounting aptitude with the ability to generate accurate reports timeously.
  • Excellent people skills, driven, energetic with a high level of attention to detail and ability to meet
    deadlines.
  • Honest, reliable and willing to work long hours.
  • Must be medically fit with sober habits.
  • Job ownership and accountability.
  • Ability to schedule and prioritize work and multi-task.
