Recruitment and Liaison Office

The Senior Recruitment and Liaison Officer will provide end-to-end support for scholars on the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program, Program, hereafter, at the University of Pretoria (UP) from connection and recruitment to selection, provision of medical aid and the sourcing of internships. One defining principle of the is that Scholars must have demonstrated a commitment to making a difference in the lives of others as well as academic excellence. It is the responsibility of the Officer, in collaboration with other Program staff at UP, to ensure that these strengths are celebrated and optimised. Scholars must be supported to be empathetic, explore problems, take up challenges and make the best use of opportunities offered on the Program with the end goal in mind – going back to their countries and giving back.

The incumbent will develop a network within Africa for recruitment purposes, and an understanding of Home Affairs’ visa regulations and good relationships with embassies and high commissions would be beneficial. The recruitment of youth from financially constrained backgrounds, including females, refugees, Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) and persons living with disabilities will be a particular focus.

The Officer must be able to engage with Scholars’ concerns in a caring, supportive, fair and transparent manner. Excellent client relationship management skills are essential as is an empathetic and solutions-oriented approach.

The incumbent will need to engage effectively with a wide variety of stakeholders, including Scholars, donors, senior managers and academic and administrative staff at the University; networks of organisations across the continent who promote access of financially constrained backgrounds and targeted populations mentioned above, and sometimes government agencies concerned with granting of visas; medical aid providers; and organisations that might facilitate internship placements. The incumbent will need to have strong operations management skills, polished interpersonal and communication skills, and the maturity to be an effective representative of the Mastercard Foundation, the Program and the University of Pretoria.

The Officer should have the ability to offer effective solutions to complex problems and communicate complex ideas concisely. They must be comfortable in the use of data and technology and will be responsible for the collection and curation of data and rigorous reporting on the area of responsibility.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The incumbent’s key responsibilities will include:

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (e.g. Marketing and communication, International Relations, Administration);
  • Honours degree is an added advantage.
  • At least five years’ work experience related to the specified duties and responsibilities;
  • Computer literacy and skills in MS Office, the internet and E-mail (preferably Gmail Suite).

Please note: The incumbent must be prepared to travel throughout the Africa continent.

Clinical Assistant: Veterinary Anaesthesiology

Applications are invited for a position as Clinical Assistant (Resident) with effect from March 2024. The post is targeted at a veterinarian who wish to become a clinical specialist in Veterinary Anaesthesiology. The successful applicant will join a team of qualified specialists working in a well-equipped academic environment in the discipline of Veterinary Anaesthesiology. Please refer to the relevant MMedVet (Anaesthesiology) yearbook for the programme information.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The successful candidate will actively participate in the following areas:

  • An advanced training programme in Veterinary Anaesthesiology with the view of obtaining the MMedVet (Anaes) degree;  
  • Clinical/practical training of undergraduate students in Veterinary Anaesthesiology;
  • Departmental research and publications;
  • Clinical service in the Onderstepoort Veterinary Academic Hospital and surrounding community, including a 24-hour service; and
  • Community engagement activities.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • BVSc-degree or BVMCh or equivalent professional veterinary qualification;
  • Registration with the SAVC; and
  • Two years’ general veterinary clinical experience completed upon commencement of appointment OR one-year rotating clinical internship; and
  • Compliance with entry requirements for a Masters’ programme with a commitment to enrol for an MMedVet (Anaes) degree and to complete within prescribed time frame.

REQUIRED COMPETENCIES (SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND BEHAVIOURAL ATTRIBUTES):

  • Subject knowledge of Veterinary Anaesthesiology;
  • Good computer skills (Windows, MS Office).

    Senior Development Specialist

    The Senior Development Specialist is responsible for developing and executing fundraising initiatives and programs to help achieve UP’s overall mission and goals. This position involves researching, prospecting, cultivating, soliciting, and managing relationships with donors, as well as coordinating fundraising activities.

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Planning and undertaking the cultivation and solicitation of donor prospects, involving colleagues within DIA and the wider University (including Fin Aid and the Vice-Chancellor) as necessary;
    • Design, implement, and manage a comprehensive, proactive annual development plan with identified annual outputs on expanding and enhancing by directing and coordinating activities related to obtaining financial support;
    • Contribute to the overall planning and coordination of the fundraising team’s strategy and targets for maximizing philanthropic giving to the University of Pretoria;
    • Identify emerging industry trends to inform the development and facilitate the management of cultivation strategies for current, lapsed, and prospective donors;
    • Initiate and communicate fundraising opportunities for faculties, deans, and directors to interpret relevant interests in University constituencies;
    • Work with faculties or support services department project leaders and those within DIA to develop the case for support for specific projects, and to prepare tailored proposals for prospects;
    • Identify and initiate opportunities for strategic partnerships and relationships on the executive level between the university and relevant external entities;
    • Identify potential donors in conjunction with the Prospect Researcher and reach out to encourage them to make contributions;
    • Introduce UP to donors by supplying information, initiating visits to campus, and liaison between top management and donor interest groups/persons;
    • Conduct fundraising, sponsorship, and project information sessions for UP staff, students, and donors and attend relevant faculty and other UP occasions with prospects;
    • Mentor and coach intermediate and junior Development Officers to grow skills and experience.

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

    • Relevant Bachelor’s Degree and or equivalent Fund-Raising qualification;
    • A total of 4 (four) years of experience;
    • Implementing Fundraising Plans;
    • Project Development;
    • Building business relationships;

    Specialist: Organisational Design and Job Evaluation

    PURPOSE OF THE JOB:

    To provide a specialist organisational development and design function including the Management and execution of job evaluation.  It further requires the facilitation of psychometric and competency assessments together with Organisational Development interventions to support the Talent Management process. 

    The incumbent will be responsible to:

    • Design, implement, and manage Policies, Procedures and systems and processes for organisational design, development and job evaluation.
    • Design and review organisational structures and processes.
    • Design a methodology for job creation and job evaluation by evaluating and updating policies, procedures, and processes.
    • Source appropriate systems for organisational design and job evaluation.
    • Implement and manage the system and processes for job creation and job evaluation.
    • Diagnose organisational design requirements and prepare project proposals and plans concerning relevant strategic, tactical, and operational interventions.
    • Assist Line Managers with organisational structure design, reviews, and implement required interventions.
    • Design, implement, and maintain the online job description system.
    • Ensure compliance of job evaluation and organisational design with legislation and corporate governance including policies and procedures.
    • Build and maintain related networks to keep abreast of new technologies and resources.
    • Constitute the job evaluation committee according to the job evaluation policy.
    • Oversee the training and provide refresher training to members of job evaluation committees.
    • Develop relevant frameworks and ensure alignment and compliance to approved frameworks.
    • Assist Line Managers and HR Business Partners and Officers with writing of job descriptions, the preparation for job evaluations.
    • Provide required reports on Organisational design, development and Job Evaluation matters.
    • Coordinate Job Evaluation and related Committee meetings.
    • Conduct research and benchmarking initiatives and assist with the identification, development and implementation of best fit Organisational Development trends, strategies, methodologies, interventions, tools and processes.
    • The development and design of organisational development interventions in order to effectively manage conflict, build teams within the workplace and to build culture that is aligned to the University’s strategic objectives.
    • The facilitation of change management interventions.
    • Assist with the coordination of the Organisational Development Division’s psychometric assessments.
    • Assist the Organisational Development Division with regards to the development and implementation of guidelines about psychometric assessments, competency-based assessments.
    • To ensure that assessment practices are aligned with professional standards and in line with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) guidelines.
    • The implementation and administration of psychometric and competency assessments scores and the provision of assessment reports and feedback to clients on assessments.
    • The provision of an analysis, interpretation, observations, recommendations, and action plans based on employee results, including organisational assessments (development, succession planning, team building, labour relations, recruitment and selection).

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

    •  Honour’s degree in Industrial Psychology or Organisational Psychology or a relevant field within Human Resources.
    • A total of five (5) years’ experience in the following:
