Pharmacy Stock Clerk – Netcare Cuyler Hospital

Role summary
The Pharmacy Clerk is responsible for the capturing of goods received onto the Netcare stock system,
collating and filing corresponding documents and producing bar-code labels.
The incumbent will further be responsible to liaise with CPD clerks regarding supplier payment queries
This position rotates between the pharmacy, theatre stock rooms and wards when required.

Key work output and accountabilities
 Ordering and Receiving of stock from suppliers/ couriers
 Maintaining stock room shelves according to FEFO and FIFO stock rotation principles
 Effective communication skills in order to assist stock controllers, pharmacists, doctors and nurses with
regards to products
 Build and maintain strategic working relationships with suppliers and nursing staff
 Processing of stock for internal departments and inter clinic sales
 Replenishment of surgical stock to wards and theatre
 Capture data of goods received onto Netcare Stock System and produce related GRV;
 Collate supplier and internal documents for authorization and supply to CPD;
 Collate and file corresponding documents as per Netcare Stock System policy;
 Produce accurate bar-code labels related to codes on supplier invoice;
 Check and track documents according to Netcare Stock System Policy;
 Transmit documents timeously according to schedules;
 Manage associated administrative tasks;
 Liaise effectively with CPD clerks for supplier payment queries;
 Assist in management of stock in accordance to Netcare stock management policy with special emphasis on designated stock areas;
 Involved in all aspects of cyclical and full stock take processes;

Education
 Grade 12 or equivalent NQF level 4 certificate
 Mathematics advantageous
 Successful completion of a short course in Basics of Stores and Stock Control advantageous

Work experience
 Experience in medical environment;
 Experience and knowledge of Surgical and Ethical stock products;
 Intermediate computer literacy;
 Previous experience in a pharmacy / theatre store, an advantage

Knowledge
 Computer proficiency in MS Office suite ( Word, Excel, PowerPoint, E-mail, SAP and Internet);
 Excellent interpersonal and communication skills;
 The ability to work well under pressure and to maintain effectiveness during changing conditions;
 The ability to work effectively and co-operatively with others by establishing and maintaining good working relationships;
 Knowledge and experience of a pharmaceutical stock control system

Pharmacist – Netcare Garden City Hospital

Role summary
The Pharmacist will be responsible for the provision of medication and supplementary services to patients and members of the healthcare team.
The incumbent will also assume responsibility for meeting patients needs in a responsible, satisfactory and cost-effective manner.

Key work output and accountabilities
 Dispense prescriptions (hospital and retail)
 Ensure maximum safety of patients by providing advice on the appropriate selection, dosage and drug
interaction, potential side effects and therapeutic effects of medicines
 Prepare, issue and control all oncology drugs according to Pharmacy policies and procedures
 Act as custodian for the management of Schedule 5 & 6 drugs as per legal requirements
 Record prescriptions as per legislative requirements
 Assist with Antibiotic Stewardship in the full capacity: ward rounds to check hangtime, alerts, DVT and all aspects of medication safety.
 Assist and offer advice on the usage, side effects, contra-indications, drug interaction and proper storage of medication to patients and other members of the healthcare team
 Supervise and control the acquisition, storage, dispensing, handling and packaging of medicines to ensure safety, efficacy and quality thereof
 Assist with all aspects of ethical stock control including re-ordering of stock, maintaining dedicated stock areas for organisation and expiry dates
 Conduct cyclical and full stock takes
 Update doctors and wards with regards to out of stock situations and offer alternatives
 Conduct related administrative and house-keeping tasks
 Actively participate as a member of a team to achieve goals
 Communicate effectively to assist other team players
 Supervise and guide Pharmacist Assistants and interns

Education
 A relevant pharmaceutical qualification (B.Pharm. Degree or Dip.Pharm) or equivalent NQF 7
qualification.
 Registration with the South African Pharmacy Council.

Work experience
 Advanced computer literacy
 Work experience in a Hospital or Retail Pharmacy environment

Knowledge

Role summary
The incumbent will be responsible for the provision of medication and supplementary services to patients and members of the healthcare team under the supervision of a registered Pharmacist. The Pharmacist Assistant will also assume responsibility for meeting patients’ needs in a responsible, satisfactory and cost-effective manner.

Customer service:
 Be active in the monitoring and improving Internal Customer Service Survey
 Assist and offer advice on the usage, side effects, contra-indications, drug interaction and proper storage of medication to patients and other members of the healthcare team.
 Advise and provide information regarding general health matters, including the effective use of medicines, treatment for general diseases, primary health care, screening services, essential medication, mother and child healthcare services, family planning and immunisation

Dispensing Medication:
 Dispensing of prescriptions (hospital and retail) under the supervision of a registered Pharmacist and
capturing thereof.
 Assist with the sale of the schedule 1 and 2 medicines or scheduled substances.
 Assist with the compounding, manipulation or preparation of a non-sterile or sterile medicine or scheduled substance according to a formula and standard operating procedures approved by the responsible pharmacist.
 Assist with the manufacturing of a non-sterile or sterile medicine or scheduled substance according to a
formula and standard operating procedures approved by the responsible pharmacist
 Re-packing of medicine
 Distribution and control of stock of schedule 1 to 6 medicines or scheduled substances

Education
 Grade 12 / Matric
 Registration with the South African Pharmacy Council as Post Basic Pharmacist Assistant
 A relevant post basic pharmaceutical qualification

Work experience
 2 – 3 Years work experience working as a Post Basic Pharmacist Assistant
 Relevant experience in using dispensing systems
 Private Hospital experience would be advantageous
 Intermediate computer proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite

  • Work experience in a hospital or Retail Pharmacy environment.

Knowledge
 Good general knowledge and understanding of legislation pertaining to the specific business environment
 Familiar with standard concepts, practices and procedures of Netcare
