The role:

The main responsibilities for this position will be, but not limited to:

• Plan, co-ordinate and control all blasting activities
• Calculate explosives and accessories required per blast
• Ordering of explosives in relation to blast holes
• Blasting of burdens and coal
• Hot hole blasting
• Closing in and safe making of the blast area
• Compile and submit blasting reports on time
• Maintain discipline and control over the crew

You will need:

• Grade 11 – Math, Science and English Language
• Valid Blasting Certificate for Opencast Coal Mining is essential
• Minimum 2 years appointed as a Blasting Assistant/Mining Operators/Assistant
• Good understanding of blasting processes and procedures
• Ability to work under pressure and variable workload
• Solid knowledge of Mine Health and Safety Act
• The following skills are essential:

• Good communication and interpersonal skills
• Good supervisory skills
• Conflict management and problem-solving skills
• Planning and decision-making skills

• Have sound knowledge of safety systems and standards and high regard to safety, regulations and standards
• Ability to work without supervision
• Willing and able to work overtime and shifts if and when required
• Computer literate (MS Word, Outlook, Excel and PowerPoint)
• Valid driver’s license
• In possession or able to obtain a valid certificate of fitness

Advantageous:

• Competent A Certificate
• Knowledge and or experience of drilling
