Job Purpose	• Responsible for providing an efficient and effective communications service to all Units and Departments of eThekwini Municipality and deliver a specific communications service to the Office of the Mayor and all role-players therein.
Key Responsibility Areas	• Promotes the Municipality by presenting a positive image of the Municipality in all its activities and programmes. • Drives, manages and continuously reviews the Communication and PR functions of the Office of the Mayor. • Manages and co-ordinates development and maintenance of relationships with media organisations/journalists. • Assists and deputises for Deputy head and/or Head (Communications) as required. • Analyses the Council’s Communications and PR initiatives/business plans and takes steps to improve the process where necessary. • Acts as Council spokesperson when required. • Manages a service, in consultation with relevant parties, whereby letters to the Editors of newspapers are responded to. • Writes stories/features articles and takes photographs as required for publication in Council publications. • Manages the recruitment, training, performance and conduct of staff

Essential Requirements	• Diploma (NQF Level 6) in Communications or Public Relations or related field. • Valid motor vehicle driving license. • 4 Years relevant experience of which 2 years must be at a supervisory level.
Preferred Requirements	• Degree (NQF Level 7) in Communications or Public Relations or related field. • 5 Years relevant experience of which 3 years must be at a supervisory level.
