VACANCIES (GAMSBERG PROJECT)
TAU Mining Contractors (Pty) Ltd. currently have the following vacancies available at the Vedanta
Gamsberg project in the Northern Cape:
DEPARTMENT: PRODUCTION
Nature of employment: Limited duration contract for Gamsberg project (estimated duration: 4 years)
Payroll category: Monthly salaried staff
Reports to: Pit Superintendent (Drill & Blast)
Job purpose: To supervise all drilling and blasting related matters on a shift, to achieve production and
safety targets with the best levels of efficiency and effectiveness, abiding by all the procedures and
standards set within the company. To ensure that all Production, Drilling and other related SOP’s are
adhered to and maximize equipment utilization to ultimately ensure that site production targets are met.
Key performance areas:
- Delivery of Drill and Blast function on site
- Supervise Drilling activities and Operators on Shift to ensure that all Production Drilling and
other related SOP’s are adhered to. - Supervise Drill Rig Operators on Shift to maximize equipment utilization to ultimately ensure
that site production targets are met. - Manage to consistently reach or exceed hourly, daily, weekly and monthly drill and blast targets.
- Coordinate mining equipment and personnel activities (Take general charge of the overall
drilling operation on the Shift in support of the Pit Superintendent Drill & Blast). - Ensure that Drilling plans are available and communicated to the Drilling Team before
commencement of shift. - Ensure that all required Risk Assessments are available and discussed with Shifts before
commencement of work - Monitor pit stability and declare areas safe prior to operations.
- Ensure that floor levels are maintained, and that equipment is not exposed to risk.
- Inspect and ensure that physical conditions are conducive to effective Drilling rates.
- Manage mining procedures according to standard operating procedures and legal
requirements. - Provide solutions to ensure effective drilling and production process flow.
- Optimize equipment utilization to maximize output and minimize expenditure.
- Manage and optimize secondary equipment to ensure achievement of production targets.
- Create a Safe and Healthy Work Environment on Site:
- Ensure that all work is performed in accordance with SHE standards.
- Ensure that emergency procedures are in place and adhered to.
- All appropriate work instructions and standards are read, signed off and adhered to.
- Safety meetings are attended as per instruction.
- Allocated area is always clean and good housekeeping practices are applied to ensure a hazard
free environment. - HIRA/Mini HIRA/ SLAM/ JRA/ VFL/ PTO is always applied correctly, and any safety and health
related issues are reported. - Personal protective equipment (PPE) is used and maintained according to safety regulations.
- Ensure effective Communication on Site:
- Proactively report progress of drill and blast targets to line manager.
- Effectively communicate with all relevant role players to ensure optimized production.
- Proactively inform Pit Superintendent of any deviations regarding targets achievement.
- Report all deviations on conditions of equipment to maintenance.
- Communicate training needs and HR related matters to the Pit Sup/ HR and Training
department. - Communicate all SHEQ related matters and legal aspects to the Pit Superintendent.
- Conduct caucus meetings to keep employees informed.
- Sustain and manage communication in accordance with TAU line communication.
- Encourage all employees to live the TAU values (AFRIC).
- Human Resources Responsibilities (To be performed in conjunction with the HR Dept)
- Ensure that your Shift/ Team is adequately staffed as per approved site complement, always.
Liaise with the Pit Superintendent/ HR Department to have all vacancies timeously filled. - Act as mentor and advisor to subordinates, identify and motivate relevant training and
development initiatives, perform succession planning. - Manage time & attendance, sick leave and leave rosters for Dept. Ensure that overtime is
planned, properly managed and pre-approved as per overtime procedure. - Monitor time spent by subordinates on the mine and ensure compliance with legal attendance
parameters. - Manage discipline and initiate disciplinary action in line with applicable disciplinary procedures,
where required. - Ensure that Operators are well trained and declared competent in terms of the Standard
Operating Procedures.
Minimum Job requirements:
- Grade 12
- Opencast Blasting certificate
- Competency A training
- Code EB Driver’s license.
- Clean criminal record
- Hazard Identification, Risk Assessment and Control Training (HIRAC)
- Must have successfully completed Strata Control 2 course.
- At least 5 years’ relevant drilling experience in and opencast mining environment of which at
least 3 years must be in a similar role of carrying a 2.9.2 legal appointment and overseeing a
Drilling Team.
