Cloud Engineer (IaC Specialist)

Key Purpose

The Cloud engineer’s purpose is to design, deploy, and manage secure and scalable cloud infrastructure solutions using platforms like AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud. The incumbent will also be responsible for automating processes, monitoring performance, and optimizing costs to support the organization’s cloud-based services. Collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure efficient and compliant cloud operations will be part of this role.

Areas of responsibility may include but not limited to

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design, develop, and implement IaC solutions using Terraform and SaltStack to provision and manage cloud resources.
  • Build, configure, and optimize cloud infrastructure components, ensuring high availability, scalability, and security.
  • Develop and maintain reusable and modular IaC templates, scripts, and configurations to streamline provisioning and deployment processes.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve infrastructure issues, perform root cause analysis, and implement corrective actions to enhance system reliability.
  • Work closely with DevOps and Development teams to integrate IaC practices into the continuous integration and continuous deployment (CI/CD) pipelines.

Infrastructure Performance Administrator

About Infrastructure Performance Management

Infrastructure Performance management was coined within Discovery, for a requirement that arose to install, configure, maintain, and monitor the IT infrastructure and application monitoring stack, this extends to Discovery’s local and international companies, the function residing within the Technology Infrastructure department.

The framework is based upon ITIL principles and the best practices of Event Management. The team dovetails closely with the Event Operations team, who successfully escalate and notify back-office teams of IT threshold breaches, preventing any potential outages and business disruption.

Key Purpose

The Infrastructure Performance Administrator role reports into the IT operations manager for the purpose of supporting, servicing, configuring, monitoring IT Infrastructure, and performance, availability, including maintenance of the monitoring environment. Also providing infrastructure and application performance management support to Back Office and System teams. Close engagement with Events Operations and Incident Management teams by means of updates to configurations and procedures. Interaction with product vendors are also required. Key importance is focusing on uptime and ensuring timely resolution in the event of failures. The role requires troubleshooting and investigating the root cause of application and infrastructure operational failures, while providing recommendations for remediation controls.

  • To ensure that all the IT monitoring products suites and infrastructure are maintained, focusing on uptime and serviceability.
  • Creating, maintaining, and contributing of team processes and documentation, including monthly reporting
  • Preparing of availability monitoring dashboards for teams as well as management, to provide varying levels of visibility into the issues encountered within the environment, both real-time and over an extended period
  • Create and maintain custom monitors, notifications and dashboards required by all relevant teams.
  • Focusing on the enhancements and application of the current and new core monitoring systems
  • Configuring monitoring and maintaining, correlating alerting solutions to ensure that only relevant issues are being identified and alerted upon
  • Gathering business and technical information regarding solutions used within the environment to determine the specific services and functions required to be monitored.
  • Tweaking the monitoring, correlation, and alerting solutions to maximize the number of pertinent events being identified, while continuing to minimize false positives.

JAVA Developer

Key Purpose

Design, code, test, debug and correct program modules in development for the back-end service providers. Construct robust, maintainable, scalable, optimally performing system code in line with technical specifications, following prescribed process, standards and procedures. Work with the system architect/analyst to define the system design and then develop and test the necessary code that will be deployed.

Areas of responsibility may include but not limited to:

Design

  • Translate business requirements into technical designs adhering to VitalityHealth processes, standards and guidelines, taking cognisance of performance, security and scalability requirements. Deliver within agreed timeframes.
  • Liaise with relevant parties where clarification of business requirements or resolution to technical issues is needed
  • Research and find effective solutions to technical issues that arise

Development

Internal Auditor

Key Purpose

The successful candidate will be responsible for completing audits inside Discovery and providing feedback on the outcome. The successful candidate must be driven, possess a sense of urgency and work flexibility.

Areas of responsibility may include but not limited to

  • Awareness of the IIA International Professional Practices Framework (IPPF), Code of Ethics and Standards
  • Perform audit in line with Audit Methodology and Audit Software requirements.
  • Assist Senior Internal Auditor in preparation of engagement letter.
  • Document systems descriptions and/or walkthroughs for the scope areas identified within the engagement letter.
  • Obtain approval from business for documented system descriptions and/or walkthroughs.
  • To review the system established to ensure compliance with those policies, plans, procedures, laws, regulations and contracts which could have a significant impact on operations and reports.
  • Completion of the Audit Checklists and overall maintenance of the Pentana Audit File (in line with Audit Methodology).
  • Document risks and controls for the scope areas identified within the engagement letter.
  • Obtain approval from business for documented risks and controls.
  • Prepare test procedures for adequate controls.
  • Perform fieldwork testing.
  • Draft working papers in line with GIA methodology
  • Provide feedback to Senior Auditor / Audit Management regarding progress on activities.
  • Advise Senior Auditor / Audit Management immediately of any problems experienced on audit sections.
  • Escalate cases where feedback is not received.
  • Produce finalised working papers and evidence for all components of work, as per standards set in the Audit Methodology
  • Confirm errors / control weaknesses identified with business prior to drafting observations.
  • Draft observations for confirmed errors / weakness and rate observations
  • Format first draft of report prior to review by the Senior Internal Auditor / Audit Management
  • Assist Senior Internal Auditor in ensuring that the management comments and agreed actions provided are appropriate.
  • Update Audit Software with all required information and sign off working papers.
  • Clear Audit Management / Senior Internal Auditor review / coaching notes (sign off)
  • Completion of mini appraisals for each audit performed within 2 weeks of final audit report being issued.

• Escalate in timely manner to Audit Management if deadlines are not going to be achieved.

• Advise Audit Management immediately of any problems experienced on an audit section.

• Monitoring of the quality of work performed by the audit team and taking corrective action

(where applicable).

• Provide training and supervision to audit team in order to ensure that that the required audit

objectives are met and that adequate practical coverage is achieved.

• Ultimately responsible for quality of audit files (MK or other).

• Proactively take on additional tasks as requested by Audit Manager.

• Provide meaningful input and monitor the effective and timely implementation of management

actions to address any control weaknesses identified through risk profiling, risk events and

control self- assessment.
