LABORATORY ASSISTANT – QUALITATIVE AND QUANTITATIVE ANALYSIS (SENSORY)

Key Performance Areas:

  • Maintain lab ware facilities.
  • Clean ovens, glassware, and sensory testing equipment
  • Maintain storerooms, check inventory and ordering of cleaning supplies.
  • Wash sensory Lab linen for tables etc.
  • Clean and prepare lab ovens and work area before each project.
  • Provide research support under supervision.
  • Housekeeping of Sensory lab facilities.
  • Stock taking of lab consumables.

Requirements:

  • Senior Certificate/Matric.
  • One (1) year Laboratory experience and Computer literacy will be an advantage.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Skilled to work as part of the team as well as independently.
  • Verbal and written communication skills.

Key Performance Areas:

  • Contribute to research and technical activities of multiple projects.
  • Participates in planning and coordinating glasshouse, field and laboratory experiments.
  • Carry out data collection, capturing, and basic analysis under supervision.
  • Participates in the identification and development of new business opportunities.
  • Participate in the successful transfer of scientific technology i.e. compilation of reports, oral and poster presentations.
  • Pro-actively provide technical input within the context of the research project/s.
  • Contribute to research by rendering desired support to research staff and optimise the utilisation of
    resources allocated to projects.

Requirements:

  • A 3 year National Diploma in Agriculture/Biotechnology/Crop Production/Genetics/Plant Breeding/Plant
    Science/Molecular Biology or related fields.

SENIOR MANAGER: HUMAN CAPITAL MANAGEMENT

(FIVE (5) YEARS FIXED TERM CONTRACT)

Key performance areas:

  • Develop and oversee the implementation of the Human Resources Management strategy.
  • Provide strategic leadership to the organisation in the integration of the Human capital strategy to the approved organisational strategy.
  • Develop and implement labour cost management strategy and monitor headcount and organisational design framework.
  • Provide guidance to the organisation in the implementation of Performance management, Human
    Capital information and Remuneration systems.
  • Compile and manage Human Capital management budgets.
  • Develop and implement Human Capital development policies for all personnel within the organisation.
  • Establish systems to monitor adherence to HCM policies and legislative frameworks.
  • Advise and guide the organization on all employee relation matters and ensure that the employee
    relations function renders a timeous advice on all matters of conflict and discipline.
  • Where necessary, represent the organization at the CCMA.
  • Ensure the organisation and all personnel adhere to good occupational safety and health practices.
  • Manage the Human Capital division and ensure that the capabilities of the HCM personnel are
    identified and aligned to the needs of the organisation.

Requirements:

  • A post-graduate bachelor’s degree in human resources management or related field.
  • At least five (5) to eight (8) years’ experience in generalist HR management, two (2) of which were in
    a senior HCM management position.
  • Strong policy formulation and facilitation skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate at senior/executive management level.
  • Sound practical knowledge of leading organisational development and business re-engineering
    process.
  • Ability to initiate, implement and monitor HR service delivery processes.
  • Ability to establish and lead effective teams as well as maximise their outputs to achieve the
    organisation’s mandate.
  • In-depth understanding of PFMA.
  • A proven track record of interaction with labour in various forums.
  • Influencing, negotiating and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking ability.
  • Sound oral and written communication skills.

AGRICULTURAL ECONOMIST

Key performance areas:

  • Provide expertise for quality research and analysis in the field of agricultural economics, includingmacroeconomic development, impact of R&D on socioeconomic development, economics of agricultural technology policy.
  • Provide strategic advice with respect to emerging local and global economy trends and implications
    on ARC business.
  • Evaluate the viability of research programmes of the ARC, to support investment decisions and
    determine the impact of the ARC’s research and technology transfer effort.
  • Contribute to positioning the Economic Analysis Unit of the ARC as a Centre of excellence in
    agricultural economics research.
  • Drive conceptualisation and implementation of multidisciplinary research projects and scaling of
    research for impact.
  • Mobilise internal and external funding for research projects.
  • Contribute to student supervision, mentoring and peer-support of colleagues.
  • Publish research in accredited peer reviewed journals.

Requirements:

  • A PhD degree in Agricultural Economics or a relevant field.
  • At least 5 years’ relevant postgraduate work experience (can be before or after the PhD).
  • Proven strong capabilities for quantitative econometric modelling and data analysis and competency
    with at least two of SPSS Stata, EViews or other quantitative analysis software.
  • Evidence of ability to publish in agricultural economics or related fields of research (at least 5 peer
    reviewed publications in accredited journals).
  • Sound understanding of the priorities and challenges facing the agricultural sector in South Africa.
  • Ability to build and manage relationships with other researchers, as well as a wide range of
    stakeholders outside ARC.
  • A valid code EC1 Driver’s Licence.
